Rising dramatically into the sky, severed on all sides as if cut from a sharp blade, Mount Hua boasts tremendously precarious sites such as Thousand-Foot Banner, Hundred Feet Gorge, and Canglong Ridge, and is known as "the most perilous mountain under heaven." Enhanced by the ever-changing decorations of nature, Mount Hua's myriad of facets are vividly portrayed, making it a national scenic spot.

Historically known as "Western Mountain," Mount Hua is one of the renowned Five Great Mountains of China and is part of the Qinling Mountains. It connects to the Qin Mountains in the south, overlooks the Yellow Wei in the north, and controls the gateway from the great northwest into the Central Plains.

Mount Hua is composed of a huge integral granite mass. Today's Mount Hua has peaks in five directions: north, south, east, west, and central. The main peaks include the South Peak "Luoyan", the East Peak "Morning Sun", and the West Peak "Lotus", standing mightily as if they vault beyond the clouds and cast shadows in the Yellow River, hence known as "The Peaks Beyond the Skies". There are more than 210 famed scenic spots on Mount Hua, including the Skywalk Plank Road hanging in the air, Sparrowhawk Turn facing three cliff sides, and other carved sites such as Thousand-Foot Banner, Hundred Feet Gorge, and Laojun Plough Gutter, among which the Immortal Palm of Mount Hua tops the list of the Eight Scenic Views of Guanzhong. Additionally, Mount Hua is also one of the Divine Land's Nine Great Sunrise Viewing Points, with the best spot located at the Morning Sun Terrace on the East Peak. Mount Hua is also a Taoist sanctum, known as the "Fourth Celestial Cave", and home to famous Taoist adepts such as Chen Tuan, Hao Datong, and Heh Yuanxi. Across the mountain, there remain seventy-two half-suspended caves, over twenty Taoist temples, among which the Jade Spring Temple, East Tao Temple, and Town God's Temple are designated as national key Taoist temples.

The East Peak is comprised of one main and three subordinate peaks, with the Morning Sun Terrace located at the highest peak head, with Jade Maiden Peak to the west and Stone Tower Peak to the east, and Board Terrace slightly to the south. The host and guests have their distinct locations, each presenting a grand spectacle from ages past. Traditionally referred to as the three peaks of Mount Hua, namely the East, West, and South Peaks, the Jade Maiden Peak is part of the East Peak. Modern nomenclatures have recognized Jade Maiden Peak as the Central Peak, thus allowing it to stand alone as one of Mount Hua's main peaks. There are more than a dozen scenic spots on the East Peak, among them a natural stone pattern resembling a giant palm imprint on the cliff side of the East Stone Tower Peak, celebrated as the Immortal Palm of Mount Hua atop the list of the Eight Scenic Views of Guanzhong. The story of The Immortal of Colossal Spirit carving mountains and guiding rivers originates from this site; north of Morning Sun Terrace lies the Yang Gong Pagoda, facing the West Peak's Yang Gong Pagoda from afar, built by General Yang Hucheng, with the inscription "Vast Expanse of Universe" personally penned by the general. Additionally, the East Peak hosts other sites like Azure Dragon Pool, Sweet Dew Pond, Three Perilla Cave, Pure Void Cave, Eight Scenic Views Palace, and the Taiji Eastern Gate. Regrettably, some of these places have been lost to time and calamities, now only remain as sites of heritage. After the 1980s, some of the East Peak's scenic spots gradually underwent restoration. Perilous paths were reinforced, and pavilions were newly constructed; on the site of the Eight Scenic Views Palace, which was destroyed by fire in 1953, now stands a two-story wooden and stone pavilion, now known as the East Peak Inn.

Compared to the Taiyi Sect and Penglai Immortal Sect, the Immortal Mountain Sword Sect is relatively worldly and open, unlike the secluded Taiyi Sect and Penglai Immortal Sect. If the Taiyi Sect and Penglai Immortal Sect represent two isolated small worlds, then the Immortal Mountain Sword Sect is a Cultivation Sect that interacts with the mundane world. However, the Immortal Mountain Sword Sect is distinct from the mundane Mount Hua cliffside schools; those in the mundane world wishing to learn martial arts typically go to the Mount Hua school, while entering the Immortal Mountain Sword Sect for cultivation usually requires special connections.
