He had no choice but to promote an existing housekeeping manager to the position of interim General Manager. The understanding was that he would be replaced as soon as someone "more outstanding" was found. Of course, if the manager's performance caught Sun Dasheng's eye, it wasn't impossible for him to lose the "interim" title. But as it stood, that seemed rather difficult.
The man had sworn emphatically to Sun Dasheng, slapping his chest in assurance, that he would turn the hotel's performance around in short order.
"Alright, do your best!" Sun Dasheng encouraged, patting him on the shoulder before leaving.
After sorting out the hotel's affairs, the group arrived in front of a commercial building. It was called a commercial building, but it looked quite dated.
Makes sense. A newly constructed building from recent years could never be acquired for a mere 2.8 billion.
Only an outdated building like this one, with an average location and dated design, could be acquired for such a low price. To the previous owner's immense gratitude, they completed the handover on the spot.
After all, commercial buildings were even hotter potatoes than residential ones these days. How could the former owner not be grateful to have such a big sucker willing to take over a property that was expected to be a total loss? This was because even in newly built commercial buildings with good locations, rental prices were dropping and vacancy rates were climbing. It was no wonder the vacancy rate for a building like this was as high as 50%.
The handover process was complicated, but with a large team of professionals behind him, Sun Dasheng simply left it to them. He, on the other hand, began to tour the interior of the building.
The tenants were all small and medium-sized companies. There were hardly any large corporations that occupied an entire floor. Typically, several companies shared a single level, with some floors housing as many as a dozen. The only exception was the twenty-second floor, which was occupied by a single company, prompting him to take a closer look.
After touring the thirty-two-story commercial building, Sun Dasheng returned to the conference room. A staff member responsible for the handover came over to report.
"President Sun, the handover is complete. These documents just need your signature."
With a few swift strokes, he signed his name and handed the documents back. After the staff exchanged the files with the other party, the former owner came over with a beaming smile. Reaching out with both hands, he shook Sun Dasheng's enthusiastically. "You must be President Sun! Truly accomplished at such a young age."
"You flatter me," Sun Dasheng responded politely.
Just then, the conference room door burst open, and several uninvited guests barged in.
The former owner's expression soured. Although the transaction was complete and the building had changed hands, he was still here.
Aren't they just making me a laughingstock?
He shot his subordinate a look, who understood immediately and prepared to escort the people out.
"Manager Wang, do you think you could lower our rent a bit? The company's performance has been really poor lately. The rent is too high, and we can't afford it."
So, they were tenants hoping to negotiate a rent reduction.
At this, the former owner's expression returned to normal. As long as it's not something else, this is fine. Besides, whether the rent is lowered or not is out of my control now. This is no longer my property.
He gave his subordinate another look. Receiving the hint, the man held back his intended rebuke and put on a smile. "Mr. Li, you're barking up the wrong tree."
The visitor looked confused. "What do you mean? Aren't you the property manager for the building? The person in charge? If I don't come to you, who should I go to?"
Manager Wang laughed heartily. "This building has just changed ownership. I'm no longer in charge of its affairs."
"If not you, then who?" Mr. Li's heart sank. He had thought getting a rent reduction was a sure thing, but now it seemed unlikely. He had never met the new owner and was completely in the dark about what kind of person he was.
Can the rent even be reduced now?
Before he could dwell on it, Manager Wang kindly made the introduction. "This is President Sun, the new owner of this building. From now on, he calls the shots. If you have any problems, you should talk to him."
After the introduction, Manager Wang and his people took their leave, leaving Mr. Li feeling very awkward in the conference room with Sun Dasheng's group. He didn't know how to begin.
Am I supposed to ask for a rent reduction the first time we meet? On what grounds? He doesn't know me from Adam. We have no connection whatsoever.
But his company was indeed struggling. The high rent was suffocating him, and the need for a reduction was urgent. He had to say something.
"Um..." Mr. Li stammered, preparing to speak.
Who knew that Li Wenwen, standing beside him, would speak up first? "It's you?"
This familiar female voice made Sun Dasheng look over in confusion. He saw a refined-looking girl standing behind Mr. Li. Her face seemed vaguely familiar, but he couldn't quite place her. "You are?" he asked.
His question made the girl look like she was about to explode. She huffed and pointed at him, about to speak, but her father stopped her. "Wen Wen, what are you doing? Show some manners."
After scolding his daughter, he turned to Sun Dasheng apologetically. "I'm sorry, President Sun. This is my daughter, Li Wenwen. She lacks discipline at times and can be a bit disrespectful. I hope you won't take offense."
Li Wenwen.
The name finally sparked his memory. She had a beautiful and virtuous sister-in-law.
He looked at her again and realized it wasn't his fault for not recognizing her. It was because Li Wenwen, standing beside her father, wasn't wearing any makeup today; she was completely barefaced.
No wonder... Some women, especially those with strong features, look like entirely different people with and without makeup. Clearly, Li Wenwen was one of them.
"So it's you!"
Hearing Sun Dasheng's exclamation, Li Wenbo's heart leaped with joy. Looks like he really does know my daughter!
For a seasoned businessman like him, a personal connection made all the difference. He had been anxious about having no leverage, unsure how to even broach the topic of lowering the rent.
What a stroke of luck!
He hadn't wanted to bring his daughter today, but she had insisted on tagging along. He had reluctantly agreed, never expecting that she would actually know the new owner. As long as they knew each other, no matter how, it would make things easier.
"So, President Sun already knows my Wen Wen. Please excuse her behavior. I'm her father, Li Wenbo," he said, handing over a business card. "My company, Wenbo Decoration, is on the twenty-second floor."
