Bastard Homunculus: Reborn in the Corpse Pit

Chapter 262: Epilogue (Part 2)

"Hm? Isn't today supposed to be your day off, sis?" Inquired Siele in bemusement.

"Yes, it is, I came here out of habit. It's fine, I already called Aster and asked him to meet me here," Responded Jules, as she pored through some documents.

"Mhm, sure, makes sense...except, why are you doing paperwork on your day off?"

"Well, I figured I might as well get some work done while I wait for Aster, he should be here in about five minutes, so-..."

"You workaholic...just take it easy. If you get too engrossed in your work, you won't stop easily," He sighed in exasperation, snatching the documents out of her hands.

"Wha-...hey!" She protested indignantly, before glancing at the door as someone knocked, "Yes?"

"Hey, it's me," Came Aster's voice.

"Oh, come in."

"Ready to head out? Wait, are you working?"

"She was, I put a stop to it though. Hurry up and drag her out before she tries to do more work," Responded Siele, giving him a pat on the arm as he headed out of the office.

"Mhm, don't have to tell me twice. Come on, Jules, let's go," Remarked Aster with a wry smile.

"Alright," She nodded, before the two of them headed out.

They'd both taken days off and planned a date to an arcade, Jules had never been to one before, so Aster figured it was a good opportunity to give her a new, fun experience.

As they left the building, they made their way through the streets to the arcade, their arms linked.

"You look a bit nervous, all good?" Aster asked her.

"Yes, I'm fine...I've just never done this before," She frowned in response.

"Hey, there's no need to worry, all you need to do is clear your mind and have fun, that's all there is to it. Just follow my lead, you'll get into the swing of things soon enough," He smiled, before leaning in and giving her a kiss on the side of her head.

"H-Hey, not in public."

"Heh, sorry, couldn't resist," He grinned sheepishly.

As the arcade came into sight, the two of them walked in, Jules looking around warily as Aster bought a stack of tickets, before leading her to a basketball game.

"Oh, I believe Akila mentioned this to me, you're supposed to toss these orange balls through that net, right?"

"Mhm, that's right. We each get five turns, and we both tie, we'll keep going until one of us misses. It's pretty simple," He replied, before inserting a ticket into the machine.

He picked up one of the basketballs and tossed it forward, shooting it through the hoop.

He then handed a ball to Jules, who took it and stepped forward, hurling it through the hoop.

"Oh, this is pretty easy," She responded in surprise, her expression easing slightly.

"Yeah, figured we'd start off with something nice and simple, to ease you into this."

"Hm...you could cheat pretty easily with your Telekinetic Magic."

"Hey, come on, I wouldn't do that to you," Laughed Aster wryly, as he scored again.

The game went on for a while, both of them scoring every time, before they decided to make it a bit more difficult, to bring the game to an end.

They stepped back further from the net to make it tougher, before continuing. After fifteen hoops each, Jules finally missed one, the ball hitting the rim and bouncing off.

"No! I lost," She sighed wistfully.

"Yeah, but that got pretty intense. Did you have fun?" Aster asked her.

"Yes, I suppose I did enjoy that...though, not as much as I would have if I'd won."

"Fair enough. Oh, let's try that one next, it's a lot of fun," Suggested Aster, nodding at an ice hockey table, explaining the rules as they walked over towards it.

"Okay, I think I got it. I'll win this time," She declared with a determined look on her face.

Aster served first, tapping the puck towards Jules, who waited before driving her paddle forward, striking the puck and launching it back towards Aster.

He watched it closely before whipping his paddle across, hitting the side of the puck and sending it zizagging to the other side of the table as it deflected off the walls of the table.

Jules's gaze darted across as she tracked the puck, before driving her paddle forward, but her timing was slightly off, only grazing the puck, before it shot into the opening on her end of the table.

"Cool, looks like that's a point for me. Seems whoever gets to seven points first wins," He remarked, before adding, "Whoever got scored on starts the next round, so you're up."

"Alright, here goes...," She muttered, a determined look on her face.

An intense rally ensued, before Aster scored again, Jules focusing as she served again, playing more defensively before gradually attacking more aggressively.

She scored twice in a row, catching up to Aster, the pair getting locked in a tight, intense game, scoring one after the other.

Before long, they were both tied at six points each, meaning whoever scored next would win. Jules scored last, so she'd have to score again in a row.

As they began the rally, they both went all-out right from the start, determined to win. They were drawing some attention from the other people in the arcade, watching on in awe.

"Take...THIS!!!" Exclaimed Jules, striking the side of the puck with a full-powered swipe of her paddle, sending it rapidly zizagging towards the other side of the table.

Aster tried to intercept it, but he was too slow to react, the puck shooting into the goal before he could stop it.

"YES!!!" Squealed Jules excitedly, pumping her arms up triumphantly, before going quiet and turning red as she realized she was being watched.

"Heh, looks like someone's having fun. Wanna try another game?" Suggested Aster with a grin.

"Y-Yes, very well...we've both won one each, so we need a tie-breaker," She nodded, as she tried to compose herself...
