Rivers of the Night

Chapter 643: Stupid Creature

Their eyes met across countless kilometers.

The odd fluctuations had drawn the humanoid here. It didn't know what it thought it would find, but the dense Ice Mana had been all it needed to be attracted.

What it didn't expect was to find the same young man it had already killed not even an hour ago. How was that even possible?

Its head tilted to one side.

Now that it thought about it, it usually gained quite a bit from its kills—less so in recent times, as it felt like it had run to the end of its evolution path, facing the mountain of the Dome of Heaven Realm that seemed all too impossible to cross.

But even so, it would still usually gain at least a crumb.

Could it be that this human had faked his death, then?

The wave of chill finally reached the Humanoid Ice Spirit Beast, the ring of icy blue bombarding against its own defenses.

BOOM.

The clash of Mana sent winds spiraling in all directions, fierce storms of energy ripping everything in its surroundings apart.

The Humanoid Ice Spirit Beast's face flickered back to an icy skeleton before flesh formed of Mana reconstituted over its body again. Wispy bits of white hair and a sharp beard formed, growing as its blood seemed to begin pumping.

In reality, it had no blood at all. Its one and only inner organ was that of meridian channels formed of ice.

And right now, it was begging for whatever Theron could provide it.

BOOM!

The region the Humanoid Ice Spirit Beast stood in was completely leveled, but in a flashing instant, the Ice Spirit Beast itself was already before Theron, its fist descending in a wide arc.

Theron opened his one empty palm wide, a familiar dark blade shooting over and into it just in time.

BOOM.

Dagger and fist collided, the snowy earth beneath them collapsing.

Theron's arm flung over his head, his body staggering backward. Every step he took left another crater in the earth, but the chill in his eyes only deepened.

That deep wrath in his soul had still not been abated. He wanted blood; he wanted carnage.

He had never felt so absolutely furious in his life, and it happened when he was faced with the weakness of his own flesh.

He had been too passive in the past, too kind, too willing to compromise and find another, easier way—a way that limited suffering and maximized results.

He no longer cared.

His toes gripped the ground, his hair fluttering into a wild dance as all his momentum came to a stop in a single moment. His Immortal Jellyfish and Impenetrable Octopus Echoes bloomed to life, and then came his Shifty Swordfish and Blue Pufferfish Echoes.

One after another, they layered onto one another, only to be further supplemented by a roaring wind of Mandates that peeled the earth up in layers.

The power of the combined Laws was so powerful that it was no longer a matter of just borrowing from the Heavens. It almost felt like they were overwriting the Laws in the current vicinity.

The Humanoid Ice Spirit Beast couldn't seem to feel the difference and was already closing in with an attack, moving so fast the earth almost felt like it was shrinking beneath its feet.

However, the human it had sent flying back before parried the strike.

Theron glided his blade across the air, a slope of water almost like the head of a scythe forming in a downstroke to his side.

The Humanoid Ice Spirit Beast's fist was flung out by Theron's hip, its head falling right into the upward arc of the latter's knee.

BANG.

The head of the Humanoid Ice Spirit Beast rattled, snapping back up with such force a line of damage appeared on its neck, as though its head was just a few more pounds of force away from being sheared off.

'Weak. Weak. Weak.'

The words roared in Theron's skull as he took a strong step forward, his raised knee landing with a BOOM that shook the ground. His father's short sword followed up in the perfect arc, chipping the forearm the Humanoid Ice Spirit Beast tried to use to block.

His dagger danced in a fluid arc that came right after.

And then his short sword followed up once again.

Theron unleashed a barrage that left the Humanoid Ice Spirit Beast scrambling back, its forearms and Ice Mana forming shields and protective defenses to shield its life, but it was quickly being overwhelmed.

As powerful as the Humanoid Ice Spirit Beasts were, they lacked any sort of intelligence and real combat experience. Once they lost the ability to wield and control the Ice Mana around them like a true domain, it was like their wings had been clipped.

What right did this Quasi Dome of Heaven ant have to control ambient Ice Mana before him? What right could it possibly have when Theron was using his [Entangling Blood Vein Pupils] to wield the Ice Mana even more expertly than it?

Now that he could use Cloud Mana through his eyes…

He didn't fear this stupid creature.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Theron's head shifted to one side, dodging a fist that threatened to blow it off. Sharp winds cut across his cheek, and his blood flew into the air.

But the Humanoid Ice Spirit Beast was wrong to think that it was just a dodge. Theron had leaned to one side, perfectly timing a side kick at one of the Humanoid Ice Spirit Beast's ankles in a single fluid motion.

It wasn't strong enough to send it flying off its feet, but its balance faltered.

Theron's silky dark blue strands of hair dipped as he fell into a deep squat, his body erupting with a shocking amount of power as he exploded upward.

Chi.

The falling Humanoid Ice Spirit Beast only barely saw a flash before a blue short sword thrust right up through the crack in its neck and out the back.

SHUUUUUU.

A river of Water Mana exploded outward, shattering its head to pieces.
