Return of the Mythic Bloodline

Chapter 109: Swatting the mosquitoes

In the time I spent on Earth, I hadn't killed so much as a chicken, let alone a person. In fact, I hadn't even tasted meat.

It wasn't because I was a "don't-kill-chickens, they have feelings too" kind of guy. I knew humans are omnivorous and need meat for nutrition.

It was just that the mere sight of flesh and blood made my stomach ache.

But after seeing so many gory incidents in the memories of the beast gods, I had somewhat gotten used to it. Still, I wasn't sure I was ready to kill someone.

However, my doubt was cleared when I beheaded the kidnapper without a second thought. My sword didn't waver for even a moment, and as I stared down at the severed head on the ground, what I felt was...

Absolutely nothing.

There was no fear, guilt, or regret. It was like killing an annoying mosquito that keeps buzzing in your ear.

"W-who is he?" the kidnapper-two stammered, completely terrified.

"Wh-when did he kill him?" the kidnapper-three murmured, sweating profusely. "I didn't even sense him coming."

The kidnappers drew their weapons from their space rings and began surrounding me from all sides.

"Be careful, he must be an Awakener," kidnapper-two declared.

"Why are you so scared?" kidnapper-four scoffed. "There are Awakeners among us as well. Moreover, isn't he the drunkard from the city?"

"You're right. He must have used a secret skill before. Look, he can't even move now," kidnapper-five added.

"Hahaha, I'll kill him myself and become the new leader of our group!" kidnapper-four declared as he leapt at me with an axe.

The moment his axe reached my face, a booming punch landed on his forearm in an uppercut, breaking it in two.

His grip around the haft loosened, and as the axe fell from his hand, I caught it and, at the same instant, threw it at kidnapper-five.

The axe hissed through the air in intense rotation and struck the kidnapper's chest, driving its head through his heart.

The impact hurled him several feet backward before his lifeless body slammed to the ground with a thud.

"Aghhh, my arm!!" kidnapper-four screamed in agony, rolling on the ground.

At the front, kidnapper-two, dripping with sweat, drew multiple hand signs in succession, aiming his fingers at me.

With his hand movements, a green magical circle about the size of a fist appeared on my chest.

Ding...

"The opponent has used the skill: Aim Assist.

Every item or weapon thrown by the caster will relentlessly follow you until they strike the mark on your body."

"Keep him distracted! I've cast Aim Assist on him," kidnapper-two ordered.

Those scumbags, who were trembling just moments ago, suddenly rallied with confidence the moment they heard his words.

Eleven of them carefully moved toward me, closing the distance between us, while the last one, the caster, stayed at the back, quickly drawing multiple weapons from his space ring.

"No matter how strong he is, he won't be able to fight all of us together," kidnapper-three snarled.

"Let's kill him!!"

"Avenge our brothers!!"

They shouted in unison and bolted at me from every direction. Some of them even had their weapons wreathed in Soulforce.

"Vivi, activate the Eyes of the Fallen!"

"Initializing host's request..."

"Eyes of the Fallen has activated!

The host can now see through weaknesses and flaws in any skill, spell, or technique of the opponent.

Note: Prolonged usage may cause dizziness and temporary loss of eyesight."

The moment the skill activated, small black stars materialized on different parts of the attackers' bodies—some on their faces and hands, others on their torsos and legs.

However, the position of each mark wasn't permanent; it continuously shifted with even the slightest movement of their bodies.

This was the first time I was using this skill, yet I instinctively knew what those black stars were.

They were showing the openings in their moves.

The instant they got closer, I began a barrage of punches and kicks, only aiming for the marks. Strangely, without even trying, I dodged all their attacks while landing bone-crushing blows of my own.

In the blink of an eye, only three of them were left standing.

Within a single breath, I snatched a spear from one attacker and used its shaft to strike the remaining two, driving them into a single line before simultaneously piercing all of their guts with the spear.

The moment they fell, a sword suddenly streaked toward me from behind, whizzing through the air.

"Blink."

"N-no matter where you go, you can't escape," kidnapper-two murmured, shivering in raw fear while dozens of weapons hovered around his body.

Even though I had used Blink to dodge the sword, the instant I moved, it immediately changed its trajectory and began following me. However, it was pathetically slow compared to literal lightning.

The only thing the last attacker could see was his sword zipping through the air, chasing the flickers of golden lightning.

The more his sword streaked, the more restless he became.

"Die-die-die!" he snapped and flailed his arms wildly, launching all the weapons that surrounded him.

My movement stopped as the Blink skill ended, and I came into view again.

I moved one leg back, raised my fists to my face, taking the stance of a boxer, and began hitting the weapons with my fists, forcefully changing their trajectories toward the half-dead kidnappers I had beaten earlier.

"Aaghhh!"

"Urrghh!"

...

Khwak!

The agonized voices of the dying kidnappers echoed in the tunnel as the weapons that were meant to kill me penetrated their bodies.

And still, with fierce vibrations, those weapons rose once more, splattering the blood of their allies as they leapt at me again.

Now that only the caster remained, I decided not to bother with the weapons anymore.

In the space of a heartbeat, I used Blink, appeared right in front of the last kidnapper, clutched his head with my hand, and pulverized it—splattering the blood like a volcano.

"Vyaghra... I couldn't hold back," I murmured, throwing away the headless body.
