Deep beneath the Headquarters of the SIGIL Fourth Division, Block 4. Confined behind a heavily fortified cell was the seventh Paragon, Alastair Glass.
She remained unbothered by the cautious gazes of the nearby security guards, thoughts unknown to anyone but herself.
A few days had passed since her arrest. It appears that the snakes hiding in the shadows were finally showing up. The prospect alone made her smile.
After all, someone had to pay for throwing her into an empty and desolate jail. Though speaking of the prison, it wasn't as good as she had expected it to be.
The Fourth Division of the SIGIL administered the High-Maximum Underground Prison, also known as Tartarus. It was where metahuman criminals get convicted.
"Jane... Enjoying your time in jail?" Alastair remarked with a smile while the guards flinched when the first word escaped her supple lips.
"This isn't the first, and it wouldn't be the last. How about your highness, strongest of humanity? What does it feel like to be imprisoned by those weaker than you?"
From a nearby cell was the fifth Paragon, the Intelligence Director of SIGIL, Jane Doe. She was convicted under suspicion of being an accomplice in the plot to destroy SIGIL and the Federation.
"There's a first to everything." Alastair grinned at the uncomfortable guards who avoided her pearl-like eyes. "They have guts, to say the least."
"Or are they banking that I wouldn't make a move to save my reputation?" She tilted her head while Jane chuckled at the thought. "They don't know you if what you say is true."
"You weren't given the name, White Devil, for no reason. In no way have you acted like a graceful saint or martyr."
"So... When are you exactly making a move?" Jane inquired as a bored expression dawned upon the gorgeous, white-haired lady's face. "When my subordinates want me to move."
"You mean that Aberrant, vampire, and two former criminal organization members?" The Intelligence Director smirked as Alastair pouted. "Hey, don't slander my lovely subordinates."
"They're much better than yours, who could only gossip and spy on others." The seventh Paragon smugly grinned at the fifth Paragon.
"At least, my pets aren't troublesome like yours. They're loyal to a fault, too." Jane countered, to which Alastair replied with grace. "Quite some loyal pets to snitch on their master."
The Intelligence Director furrowed her eyebrows, anger glinting from her cold gaze. "That was an ungrateful and disloyal pet. I'll punish it once I return."
"Oh, looks like you already know the culprit." Alastair glanced in the direction where her cellmate dwelt. "At least, you aren't foolish like the others."
"Power has gotten into their heads, making them idle and inadequate. Most have even joined politics, except for those belonging to the frontiers."
"The thought alone irks me." The Paragons were nothing but the guardians of the next generation. As the strongest members of humanity, they were supposed to ensure that their power does not touch its interior.
Even her behavior was rooted in this covenant, which was why she wouldn't hesitate to exterminate the infiltrators that dared to corrupt the tree that was humanity.
"It's what makes them human. At least, many of them are merely edging from politics instead of embracing it like the second Paragon." Jane muttered, earning the annoyed grunt of Alastair.
"They'd better wish none of them ever met me personally. Otherwise, I would give them a good knuckle on the head. Especially that snake bastard from Block 2."
The gorgeous white-haired lady closed her eyelids, silence pervading the prison like a gentle flood. Jane noticed the muted space, understanding the thoughts of the strongest.
"Wondering where your partner could have gone? The Rogue Blade." The fifth Paragon uttered and added.
"There's only one place she could be in right now, facing her past as the two of us would expect." Once Alastair and Francine were arrested after annihilating the Headquarters from the map, they were separated.
Francine could only be held in one place, and that was the esteemed estate of the Espada Clan. Without a doubt, grudges from the past were making their way towards her.
"I am not worried about her. I merely know that if she and that old bastard keep facing one another. Sooner or later, only one would be left alive after their confrontation."
Jane Doe chuckled at the words leaving the supple lips of the seventh Paragon. "What did you expect when you took her as your partner?"
"The bad blood between the two of them doesn't fade with time. That senile fool considers the Rogue Blade as the greatest sin of the Espada Clan, while she thinks of him as the last pillar of her weakest moment."
Alastair smirked and declared. "I don't want humanity to lose a Paragon. Especially when the storm hasn't come to unravel the New World."
Somewhere on the West Coast of the New World, Francine opened her eyelids and found herself shackled on an iron chair in the middle of an underground shrine.
Her sapphire-like eyes pierced through the golden frame of her eyeglasses as she observed her surroundings with scrutiny.
It didn't take long for her to understand the circumstances she was trapped in. The edges of her ample lips curled into a smile as she uttered in the darkness.
"I didn't think that there would be remnants of the Espada Clan still alive. To think that the old fool would actually start another generation of swordsmen."
She could feel the shackles siphoning her Aether, much more potent than the handcuffs administered to her previously when the Federation arrested Alastair.
A masked swordsman emerged from the darkness of the underground shrine, gazing upon the shackled, beautiful lady. "You will pay the price for the sins you have committed to the Clan."
"Oh, what sins?" She tilted her head as strands of her hair touched her pale cheeks. "I thought that battle was supposed to be for the honor of the Espada Clan."
"Your seniors fought bravely, but in the end... They were weak people who thought of themselves as masters of me. They want me to become what they cannot."
"When I didn't do as they said. I became their greatest enemy, their greatest sin. Quite saddening... Don't you think? For such weak swordsmen to be members of the Espada."
"Is that the way you saw it, foolish girl?" An old voice grumbled from the darkness as Francine smirked. "So, this was your idea, huh? Old fool."
"Was that confrontation in Manhattan not good enough for you? Can your disciples not satisfy you anymore?" She looked at the masked sword masters who surrounded her.
Francine didn't expect the Espada Clan to accept more disciples after what had occurred a few years ago. But it was natural, to say the least.
If humiliation was that great, the clan wouldn't have survived in the Old World. At least, they understood the word compromised. Those who didn't would be washed away by time.
"My disciples will take back our honor through your death." The sixth Paragon declared, his voice echoing throughout the shrine.
"Here I thought you were loyal to the SIGIL cause... It seems that I overestimated you a bit too much, old fool." Francine sighed as the shackles fractured into pieces.
"These disciples of yours... Don't blame me for their fate before this shrine." A cold glint escaped her sapphire-like eyes as she summoned her Zweihander.
She stretched her body as the sword masters prepared themselves for the battle that would reclaim their honor.
The sixth Paragon observed with scrutiny, assessing the upcoming confrontation with a calculating gaze. He wasn't that worried about the outcome.
After all, the underground shrine would keep all information from leaving. No matter what happened. The Rogue Blade of Espada would take her last breath beneath the ground.
Meanwhile...
Staring at the Headquarters of Block 4, Damien glanced at his status display and pondered what to summon. After all, it seems that the tribunal was about to start.
He needed a monster that would attract most of the attention while he infiltrated the interior of the structure.

"Perhaps a monster isn't what I need, but an ability." He turned his attention towards his newly acquired Machine Awakening.
With so many military vehicles surrounding the complex, it was the best personal skill to utilize. The number of machines Damien could awaken numbered in the hundreds alone.
Enough to cause some wanton chaos.
