Chapter 260: Insane Ending of Medina's Game!

"What is going on…" Bagas muttered with his hands on his head; his expression showed how in disbelief the boy was. "What is going on here…" He was too speechless to say anything coherent, feeling like no words could do justice to describe what he had just witnessed here.

"I mean… I wouldn't complain if Victor Erdos made more mistakes here." Anna murmured lowly, yet still enough to be heard by the viewers on the live stream. "Sister Medina only needs a draw in this game, so this is definitely a good thing for her. Still, I know where the concern lies here. The mistake that Victor Erdos made is pretty outrageous, nullifying all of his advantages in one blink. However, I can assure you that it is pretty hard to notice if you are not a super grandmaster or not in your prime state, so I cannot really blame him for making this mistake."

"Oh?" Bagas raised one of his eyebrows slightly, feeling intrigued by her statement. "Is it really that hard?'

"Indeed, because this is the endgame phase, all the crazy things could happen on the board," Anna said gravely. "His only mistake was just that he checked Sister Medina on the wrong square, giving her a chance to build up a tight wall with her bishop. However, it was natural not to see such a move, especially since his time is running low right now."

Yeah, Victor Erdos really burned a lot of time in this game, probably calculating and re-calculating every possible tactical approach on the board. As a result, he only had 3 minutes left, while Medina herself was still up to 22 minutes. The huge difference between those two was enough to put pressure on the man, and coupled with the exhaustion that took a toll on him, everything added up together, turning his brain mushy and his game far sloppier than his usual standard.

Unfortunately for the Hungarian GM, the disaster didn't end just like that for him.

No, the fact that he went for a tactical game, sacrificing his pieces to get an imbalance position, just to throw everything off, definitely made the situation worse for him. Now, the game was equal again, but Medina had a full set of rooks that were connected to each other and a queen compared to him with only a queen, a rook, and three pawns. Even though the situation was pretty equal, it wouldn't last that long, as the balance started to shift on Medina's side. Hell, a few moves later, the computer engine even showed -1.2 for Medina, showing that somehow, the woman managed to overturn the table here.

However, when everyone thought that Medina would start to push forward and put more pressure on her opponent, the unthinkable suddenly happened. In frustration, Victor Erdos somehow offered a draw, and Medina, who had already exhausted, accepted it with no hesitation.

"No!" Bagas shouted instantly when he saw the agreement was on the board, and he couldn't even hide the utter shock he felt right now. "Why did Master Medina do that?! She still has a chance to win!" He exclaimed in panic, as if it were he who sat in front of the board right now.

Harrylot: Damn! She chokes so bad here, this is fucking crazy!

DidiYahD12: It must be suck to be her fans, right? LOL

Hilda99: What do you mean by she chokes? Don't you know that her initial target is to get a draw in this game?

Lechezz853: Excuse, excuse. She has a chance to win, yet she throws it away. Suck to be her!

For a moment, the chat room exploded with a lot of different opinions. Even though most of them bashed Medina for letting the win slip out of her hand like that, some were still clear-headed enough to reason why she did that. Still, seeing that the opinion shifted into blaming her sister, Anna had to take a step forward to defend the woman here.

"We cannot really blame Sister Medina here." She spoke seriously. "I mean, we can say a lot of things, and even mock her crazily, because we just watch the game from the screen, and also with the help of the computer engine. However, Sister Medina has been fighting for almost four hours here, and most of the time, she was the one who got pressured. It is not easy to maintain focus all that time, and Sister Medina's target since the beginning is also a draw. She saw her opponent offer her that, so why would she refuse?"

This was at least enough to silence the chat broadcast for a moment. Even though most of them still didn't agree with what she said, her own fans had already jumped to defend Anna from any incoming attack. This was the advantage of being pretty, as she could voice her opinion loudly as long as it wasn't morally or legally wrong, and she would've been backed up by the simps who were her fans.

"Also," Bagas added, feeling the need to do this since it was his words that triggered this reaction. "Come to think of it, you have said a lot of times today that the endgame phase is the most difficult one to navigate, right? Is there any chance for her to miss this because she still thought that she was at a disadvantage at that moment? I mean, Victor Erdos only made one mistake, right? It is possible that Master Medina doesn't think that the move was a mistake and still thinks that she was at a disadvantage. That was why she accepted the draw offer quickly."

"Nevertheless, though," Anna interrupted once again. "We cannot blame Sister Medina for this result. After all, beating a GM itself is not something so easy to do, and taking a calculated draw is definitely not something to be embarrassed of."

Right after that, the camera panned onto Medina, who was smiling in relief, as if a huge burden was lifted off her shoulder. Seeing this, coupled with the arguments that both Anna and Bagas made, the opinion shifted once again, and this time, most of the people in the chat room also defended Medina here.

Hilda99: I told you so!

MessitheGOAT10: Well, if beating a GM is that easy, just like everyone thought, we would've already had a ton of them here, right?

Froggies: Well, what do you expect from those idiots?

Seeing that the problem had already been settled, Bagas sighed in relief, knowing that he had just escaped from the needle hole here. The boy didn't want to imagine what Medina would do if she knew he caused so much trouble for her. No, that was definitely a nightmare.

"Anyway!" Bagas said out loud, trying to snap himself from his wild thought. "We still have one more game on the board here, and honestly, this is the marquee match of the day! It seems that they are still going back and forth here, and they are already at their 58th move! Let's see how Sheva is faring in his game and whether he could snatch the number one spot from his opponent or not!"
