Age of Ascension: Forging an Immortal Realm from Nothing

vol. 2 chapter 14 - A Cosmic Phenomenon! A Peerless Prodigy! (4/5)

"A cosmic phenomenon! A river of stars flowing in reverse!""A new galaxy was born in the universe, eclipsing the sun and moon!""It appeared and vanished in the blink of an eye!""A Legend! A Legend-tier lord must have been born!""Unimaginable… what kind of genius could cause such a vision?""It came from Earth! Our ancestral star!""This generation… to think it has produced such a peerless prodigy. How terrifying!""I think I saw the figure of a woman on the river of stars, faint and fleeting… it must be a female prodigy!"Earth was reeling! No one could hear what was being said in the deep void of space, and no one knew just how many powerful beings had turned their attention to this little corner of the universe. What unknown entities, from beyond the cosmos, were now silently watching this world? But on this day, at the very least, every single person on Earth, every single lord, received the news!A peerless prodigy had been born. The heavens had marked the occasion with a cosmic vision: a river of stars flowing in reverse!…In his living room, Wu Chi's figure slowly materialized. He looked weak, his face was pale, and his legs felt a little wobbly. But his eyes were blazing with excitement! The rewards he had chosen from the Void were enough to grant his territory a future of limitless potential! The three 1-point items were all for an immediate boost in combat power. The two bigger purchases, for 100 and 10 points, were long-term investments in his territory's potential. One was for short-term gain, the other for long-term growth. The choice had been obvious!"I'm now an official lord!"Wu Chi smiled to himself. He focused his mind inward and could see a small, floating "territory" within his body. Inside it were buildings and people, and time was flowing normally!Every lord's territory was absorbed into their body. They could enter it at will, but to descend back into the Endless Void, they had to wait a set amount of time.[Descend]Cooldown: 29 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes, 42 seconds.Wu Chi glanced at the panel, then at his territory, and realized it was several times larger! He thought of the [Territory Expansion Order] he had given to Qin Keqing and a thoughtful expression crossed his face.Should I go back in and check on things?Better not… in case I get… again. The memory of the past twenty-four hours made him shudder. He was genuinely exhausted. The weak appearance wasn't an act!"A man's stamina has its limits! You just wait, little minx. Once I break through to the next realm, I'll have my revenge!"Wu Chi muttered to himself and checked the time. It had only been a little over an hour since he had first 'descended'. This was one of the strange rules of time; no matter how many days a lord spent in the trial, they always returned to a fixed point in time. The Endless Void had its own set of temporal laws!"First things first, I should head to school. I think I have to report in."After a moment's thought, Wu Chi headed out.Silvermoon City was a little more boisterous than usual. On his way to school, Wu Chi saw plenty of other students, all new lords from his year, with various expressions on their faces.Shenhe High School! In the classroom of Class 3-5, the martial arts teacher, Zhu Jian, sat silently at his desk. Below, about twenty students were chatting, the atmosphere lively and excited. When Wu Chi walked in, no one paid him much attention. He wasn't in the mood to show off anyway. He walked over to his seat and sat down. The moment he sat down, he heard the two students in front [N O V E L I G H T] of him—one fat, one thin—chatting."How many days did you last?""Eleven. You?""Hmph, I made it all 30 days!""No way! What level are you? I only made it to level 4 in 11 days before I had to bail. Couldn't handle it!""Level 6!""Isn't level 6 a bit low?""I got lucky. My territory was on an island, so when a bunch of sand worms invaded, they could barely move. And my first barracks was for crossbowmen!""Nice! My luck was shit. Forty militiamen stood no chance against over a hundred minotaurs. We got slaughtered…"It wasn't just the two of them. The whole classroom was buzzing with students exchanging war stories. Some had gotten lucky and survived the full 30 days, earning a commendation from the Void. One guy even got a rare troop barracks. Others had terrible luck, gambling on summoning a hero right at the start, only to get a doctor. His territory was overrun by monsters on the third day, and he had to flee with his tail between his legs.Of course, there were also those who had played it safe, starting with militia and fighting their way up. They had managed to last at least 10 days before the pressure became too much. The unluckiest of all was a guy who failed on the 30th day. He had apparently reached level 10 and recruited 100 militiamen, but on the final day, a boss appeared with 300 trolls and just flattened his territory.Wu Chi was listening with interest when the two in front turned around. The thin one grinned. "Wu Chi, what about you? What level are you?""Level 10," Wu Chi answered with a smile. He had his reasons. Revealing a certain level of talent could bring benefits, but revealing too much was dangerous. You never knew what kind of people were out there."You passed the newbie trial?"They both looked shocked.Wu Chi nodded. "I just kept fighting and let the war pay for itself.""You got lucky then. The boss on day 30 must have been a pushover," the fat one said, his voice sour with envy.Wu Chi just smiled and didn't explain."So what did you get for your Void commendation?" the thin one asked excitedly, then immediately realized his mistake. "Ah, sorry, I shouldn't have asked.""It's fine," Wu Chi said, though he didn't answer the question.Amidst the noise and discussion, time passed quickly! Eventually, about thirty students had gathered in the classroom. After a while, Zhu Jian looked up, glanced around, and said flatly, "Looks like everyone's here."The room fell silent instantly.Zhu Jian nodded slightly. "Those who passed the newbie trial, stand up."When the words were spoken, Wu Chi stood up. In the classroom, five other students also rose to their feet!Six in total!"Hah, not bad this year! Six of you passed!" Zhu Jian looked genuinely surprised. In previous years, not even a tenth of the class would pass the trial!"You six are being transferred to Class 3-20! The rest of you, stay here!" Zhu Jian stood up and gestured for them to follow.Wu Chi didn't hesitate and followed him out. The others did the same.A few moments later, Zhu Jian led them to a different building, to a large lecture hall."This is where you'll be having your classes from now on.""There's one class a day. You can check the schedule on the school network. Whether you attend or not is up to you!"With that, Zhu Jian turned and left."Teacher Zhu is certainly efficient," one of the students remarked, shaking his head. The small group entered the lecture hall and found seats. Over time, more and more students filed in, until there were over two hundred people in the hall! These were all the lords from Shenhe High School who had passed this year's "newbie trial!"
