Captain Khan of the 1st Unit.Four squads were moving swiftly under his command. There wasn’t a trace of distraction in his movements as he scanned for any nearby entities.“This is Zone A. Respond, Zone B and C.”—Crackle. Zone B here. Installation is complete.—Crackle. Zone C is ready as well. “I’ll send the signal from A first. Once it goes off, move to your assigned positions. Out.”—Crackle. Understood.—Understood. See you shortly. They were slightly away from the area intended for the kill zone. The priority was clear: penetrate the initial dense cluster of entities and send the signal from the key points. That would draw the entities’ attention, allowing androids and drones to be deployed at the next locations without issue.Khan, leading the advance, wore an expression of absolute indifference. In his hands: a military shotgun. To his left and right, Eric Palmer and Huin Rin held a submachine gun and a sniper rifle, respectively. “Once we go in, there’s no turning back. You understand?”“Of course, sir.”“Rin, cover from the rear and command the squad.”“Yes, Leader.” At the forefront, it was Khan himself.Though he usually directed from the rear, the situation called for him to take the lead. “Are you sure you’re okay?”“My body’s fully recovered. Enough talk—let’s move.”“Yes, sir.” His steps were unhurried yet precise.Like a predator stalking its prey, every movement measured.Khan’s keen vision and experience made his vigilance unmistakable. How many troops were following behind him?Suddenly, his fist shot forward.Movement froze at once. In the oppressive silence, a faint, rasping cry could be heard.“Kaah… aaaaah—”“Deploy the drones from here.” No sooner had he spoken when dozens of drones shot into the air.The advance would slow slightly, but this decision prevented unnecessary collisions—timely and deliberate.Still, being the eastern area with the densest concentration of entities, some stragglers were unavoidable. Khan moved with the precision of a silent assassin, eliminating them one by one.By the time they reached the operational zone:“Androids, deploy.” Khan’s indifferent gaze suddenly ignited with fierce resolve.A squad of androids, armed with strange, non-traditional weaponry, surged toward the center, twenty units strong, responding instantly to orders. “Operation [White Horizon] begins now.”The voice through the radio heralded the opening of the battlefield. And then—BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-!!!!!!! A piercing, ear-splitting signal marked the operation’s start.“Formation: wedge! Full speed, scatter!” *** “It’s started.”The sound carried even from a distance.Noise was an unbeatable lure for the entities; this alone would draw them out. Now, the real fight could begin.“Time to prepare. Behemoth is {N•o•v•e•l•i•g•h•t} starting to show up on the thermal scopes.” Mother, wearing auxiliary vision gear, updated the situation.‘It probably reacted to the noise. But it’ll realize soon enough.’ The entity was intelligent—at a human-level, perhaps even superior. It wouldn’t be an easy prey, not one to be fooled by such artificial noise. “Phew.”She swallowed dryly, fingertips trembling slightly.Excitement or tension? It was hard to tell. Only her clammy palms gave away her tension. “It’s coming.”Time to make their move.Mother shouldered her custom weapon, the [Moglei].Activating the [Endless Nano Suit] to augment her physical abilities, she lifted the massive sniper rifle with ease, like handling a toy. With one scope adjusted, she lined up a shot. BUBBBB-!!!!The [Moglei] fired, tearing through even reinforced armor, the sound echoing across the field.‘Perfect timing.’The lure noise was still ongoing, the entities’ attention remained focused elsewhere. “Direct hit.”A river of red spilled into the water, though she hoped the entity hadn’t died instantly—unlikely, yet she clung to a small shred of hope. But that hope was short-lived.“Wait… its movements are unusual.”“……!?” Urgency laced Mother’s voice.“Kyle!” [Auto-hover mode][Deactivate] Before thought could register, my body moved.I slammed the throttle harder than ever.KUWAAAAAA-!! Explosions roared from the ejection ports, a torrent of force tearing outward.Still, I caught it—the craft’s core wavered for a split second, a subtle but crucial sign. “Ki҈. Ki҈gi.҈Gig. Gig҈. Gig. Gig҈. Gig.҈Gig҈-?”It was him.I barely avoided the entity boarding the Black Wing, but a flicker of despair surfaced.'Its recovery… is already complete?'Its body was fully restored, the sniper shots knitting shut in mere moments. It had reached Stage 3 evolution—the Greed entity.Yet why had it waited at the riverbed? “Huuman…”Even from afar, its words radiated fury and hatred.Perhaps they weren’t the ones doing the luring—it had been waiting for them. The trap wasn’t theirs. It was his.“Ki҈.Ki҈.Gik҈.Gik.҈Gik҈-” *** Four tails had regenerated once more. Six arms. Only the scars remained, marking where wounds had once been. “Mother.”“Scared now?”“Not in the slightest.” All signs indicated it wouldn’t prey on its own kind—if it had, the Liberation Front would have noticedIt was a Stage 3-level recovery, but only partial. “We must continue the operation.”“I agree.”Even with Stage 3 regenerative power, they were prepared. The key weapon: Plasma Blade. This was their chance to eliminate it.If it started preying on its own kind, a full Greed would emerge, and any unprepared survivors would be mercilessly slaughtered Once it reached Stage 3 onwards it will never hibernate—one of the biggest variables in the city-wide extermination plan.‘If we fail here, too much will fall apart.’Her shots rang out—rapid, precise, tearing holes in the Behemoth.Yet she clicked her tongue in frustration. ‘It's too fast… nearly unstoppable.’No alternative existed; head or neck shots were virtually the only way to kill it.“Stick to the plan, Mother.” Plasma Blade strikes had to cauterize on impact.Fortunately, the entity followed their lure, moving straight toward the target.Pressure mounted with every step, hands loosening as the tension in their bodies finally began to ease. *** “Mother, time to switch positions.”“Be careful, Kyle.”They chose this location for multiple reasons:Mother could fire effectively from above. The entity couldn’t escape into water.Any attempted escape wouldn’t be easy. The Banawa Terrace—largest eastern waste disposal site. A steep, terraced pit designed to trap.Footing crumbled like sandcastles under weight, making escape difficult.‘First target: immobilize the legs.’Draw it here, then cut one of its leg. Mother switched position; behind her, the Behemoth’s new form advanced.‘It’s caught on to the lure.’“Lure it to the center again.” Mother increased the Black Wing’s speed. The stench intensified as they neared the center. Once there:“Do it correctly if you want it to take the bait.”Mother stopped the Black Wing. With the power lost, it descended into the trash pile. And there it was—Ki҈.҈gi.҈geek҈.gi҈҈.geek҈?The entity charged as if waiting.“Mother!”Its speed was terrifying. Clearly, it saw an opportunity. Just before impact—KUWUUUNG-!!The engine was back online. “Kyle! Now!”The entity lunged at the Black Wing—this was the moment. The stage was set. [‘Extrasensory’ activated]A foot landed midair.KWAH!Air cracked under his movement. The Air Walker functioned fluidly, as if running on water. His concentration was at peak, his hands were gripping Zero tightly.‘One strike, one kill.’The energy source flared as the [Plasma Blade] materialized. Could he sever its neck in one blow? The Behemoth charged, its eyes flashing an incomprehensible emotion—fear. It feared him. Why’s that?It was fine, anyway. That doesn’t matter. It curled to protect the head and neck as it barreled forward.'What a pity.'In a sense, it’s fortunate. ‘Good. Perfect for a clean cut.’Zero’s blade aligned in a straight strike. The cold wind blew; the sweat on my forehead cooled.[Slash LV.6] Zero's sword strike draws a crescent moon.SZZZZAAAK-!!!!“Ki҈.Gi҈.Gig҈.Gig҈҈.҈Gig.҈҈gi҈.Gi҈.Gig҈-!!!”I tore off the bastard's right leg.
