The Second Chance of Reincarnator

Chapter 156: Promotion

Friday morning.

With the cold wind of the passing night breezing through the land, Aren stepped out of the house in his slippers, and made his way to the mailbox in the front yard.

"Mmh~"

He rubbed his eyes as he opened the mailbox.

"Good morning, Aren!"

In that moment, a neighbor's old woman greeted him and waved her hand around as she was heading for a morning walk with her husband.

"Good morning."

Aren raised his hand as a response, took out the newspapers, and some letters from the mailbox.

"How has Agnes been? I haven't seen her smiling this much as long as she has been my neighbor!"

The old woman asked as she waltzed to the front of the yard with her husband. They were holding on to each other, their love stronger than ever.

"Good. Healthy."

Aren said.

"That is good. When will we meet that Mira girl? Agnes has been talking all about her, about how sweet she is."

The old woman asked.

"…I am not quite sure. She is like a house cat, pretty much, and doesn't like outdoors much."

Aren said with a wry smile.

"It would be lovely to meet her. My daughter will be having a wedding next month, and we will have a small gathering in the next couple of weeks. Maybe three of you can join?"

She asked.

"…I'll talk to Agnes about it."

Aren said, then bid his farewell to them, and entered the house, back to the warmth, and checked the letters absentmindedly.

"The newspaper came."

He tossed it over to Mira, who was sitting on the couch, and she didn't even try to catch it, so the newspaper smacked into her.

She growled, looking at him angrily, and then opened the newspaper. Then she started reading the newspaper to Agnes, who was enjoying her morning crimson tea.

"That old lady next-doors asked us if we want to join some small gathering in the next couple of weeks… Her daughter is getting wedded or something."

Aren said absentmindedly, and caught sight of one of the letters that was actually assigned to him.

It was from the Guild.

'…Took longer than expected.'

Aren thought.

"Yes, yes, they talked about their daughter getting married. I'd love to go there, and it will also be good for you, Mira, to see some people!"

Agnes said with a smile.

"…"

Mira stayed silent and looked at Aren, who wasn't responding to that, so she didn't know what he was thinking about.

She didn't know whether he wanted her to go to that gathering or not. It was very hard to read him sometimes.

"…Yes, maybe Mira finds a boyfriend so she stops being so grumpy all the time."

Aren said jokingly.

"Hehe~"

Agnes giggled.

"Shut up, gross…"

Mira looked disgusted. It was as if vomit was about to come out of her mouth. The thought of dating a human being was apparently revolting to her.

"It looks like I have some business to attend to today. I will be back later today, so Mira will be cooking for you today."

Aren said, put the rest of the letters together, and put them inside of the drawer. He took the letter that was assigned to him with him.

"Is there something wrong?"

Agnes asked.

"Not at all."

Aren said, and headed to get dressed, as there was an important meeting for him in the Guild.

Kornacis, Heavy Smog Street, the Guild.

With the building bustling with activity all around him, Aren was leaning against one of the pillars that was propping up the ceiling.

He was very well-dressed, looking rather dazzling with the folded-collar coat that he had put on for the occasion. A chain linked to a pocket watch peeked out from the pocket of his vest.

It was a three-piece suit—a white shirt, dark red vest, and black coat—alongside that, he wore well-tailored black pants, a half top hat, and a cane in hand.

There was also his black holster, where he kept his revolver, on his belt. It was well hidden under the flap of his vest.

"Mister Meredica?"

At that moment, a soft-sounding young woman came to him. She was new at the job, but she came from a well-educated background, so it wasn't that hard for her to get this job.

The Guild, while was mainly dominated by Earthlings, but mostly as Blessed Ones, and they would leave everything else in the hands of Whitesky citizens.

"That is me."

Aren said.

"Then follow me, please."

The young woman beamed with a smile and took him to the second floor. There were more people around than usual, which is what Aren noticed.

'…Interesting. It looks like something is happening over here.'

A while later, the young woman took Aren to a room. It wasn't an interrogation room this time. It was a nice-looking room with rich brown wallpapered walls, a couple of comfortable armchairs, and a large window overlooking the city.

"Please, sit!"

At one of the comfortable armchairs, Reverend John sat with a smile on his face, but he wasn't alone.

There was a pipe-smoking man beside him, a long flat cap drooping over his eyes, and he appeared to be quite mysterious.

"Nice to meet you again, Reverend John."

Aren tidied up his tie, then made sure that he wasn't going to sit on top of his coat, and then sat down on the armchair.

"…Your information came true. Perverted Justice indeed slithered his way over to Brackenford Cross somehow.

"Our men also investigated Hauwnted family's estate. Everyone is dead there. The corpses of their guards were strewn across the ground. Do you know anything about that?"

Reverend John asked.

"…No, first time I am hearing about that."

Aren said with a surprised look.

"Yeah, we know that you didn't do that. They were sucked out of their souls. It is what Perverted Justice does. Souls are his food.

"However, we found several people with bullet holes in their foreheads. That isn't something that Perverted Justice does, but instead Outlaws…"

Reverend John said, and then took a peek at Aren's revolver dangling from his belt.

"I did kill a few."

Aren said.

"Hah."

The mysterious man chuckled, and he then pushed his cap to show his dark brown eyes that looked quite cool.

"We are not here to judge you, boy. We are here to congratulate you. You've been officially promoted into the Green rank.

"Your findings are quite impressive and important. The Guild is thanking you for bringing this matter to our attention."
