Chapter 414: The Strange Enemy (Please Subscribe)

Charging out from the valley into the swarm again, Pei Yan couldn't seem to regain that former mystical state he had been in. As he dodged left and right, he kept adjusting his physical condition while feeling puzzled by the situation in front of him.

Even though these larvae called Enslavers might be low-level cannon fodder from the Disaster Legion that Sifuer mentioned, knowing clearly that they couldn't cause him any substantial harm, yet they kept coming to die—it seemed like endless consumption. Could this really be sustainable? Are these Enslavers truly endless?

After hacking away for a while, Pei Yan finally noticed something odd about this attack compared to previous ones. The information from the drones shocked him; at the rear of the insect horde, the Enslavers opened their ugly mouths and kept biting the tails of the next Enslavers, just like toys being pieced together. What astonished Pei Yan was that after these Enslavers were joined, pus seeped from the connections, quickly smoothing the gaps to merge their bodies into one entity. The insects forming the head and limbs then burst their outer shells to reveal massive jaws and scythe-like forelimbs. Once thus assembled, these gigantic multi-insect composite monsters swayed through the horde, charging straight at him.

"This can't simply be bigger!" Pei Yan exclaimed, slicing an Enslaver lunging at him in half with one stroke, resting his long knife on his shoulder as he watched these monsters, gasping deeply.

Just as he was about to charge forward to test these new monsters, he suddenly felt the ground beneath him shake violently. Was it the Magma Insects attacking from below again?

A thought flashed through Pei Yan's mind as he leaped up, quickly dismissing it as he saw several giant mutant insects. Unlike the others with scythe-like forelimbs, these ones had massive hammer-like forelimbs, which were the source of the constant earthquakes hitting the ground.

Just having uncovered this mystery, a piercing sound from afar caught his attention. Already aware of the anomaly, Pei Yan moved quickly to leave his original position. The next second, a deafening explosion erupted at the spot he had just left, followed by a series of crazed shots aimed at him.

Watching as the Enslavers formed new monstrous insects, opening their gigantic mouths to launch spherical objects like cannonballs, and others exposing disgusting and dizzying dense holes that shot projectiles from within, Pei Yan dodged agilely while an eerie sense of confusion arose within him.

While dodging these attacks from newly formed mutants, those insects with scythe-like hammers rushed to his side.

Boom! Leaping up, Pei Yan struck down with his knife on a mutant insect's hammer limb; as expected, the two forelimbs broke with a sound. Pei Yan planned to use this mutant's body to temporarily evade enemy long-range attacks and seek a path to counterattack, but as he did, the mutant's body exploded before him, showering him with viscous pus and a barrage of bullets and projectiles.

"Damn it!" Realizing something was wrong, Pei Yan quickly activated his Defense Array, almost spitting blood as he was struck, cursing out loud while withdrawing hurriedly, adjusting his stance.

Removing his face guard, he spat out the blood foam from his mouth corner. Shaking his head, Pei Yan silently blamed himself for getting hot-headed. Unlike combat in the real world, these damn insects had no regard for their companions' lives, using their comrades as shields only to kill them together in the crossfire.

Evidently, the enemies did not plan to give Pei Yan much time to breathe. Before he could ponder further, four or five gigantic insects twisted and galloped toward him at high speed.

Having learned from his mistake, Pei Yan smartly escaped immediately after striking, refusing to linger in place. Since they didn't care about their companions' lives, he fought by maneuvering among the close-range giant insects. If these damn swarms truly didn't mind their safety, then let them come; their self-consumption saved him some effort.

Acting on this idea, the mutant insects formed by Enslavers became wiser after repeatedly failing to kill Pei Yan while harming their own. Consequently, they weakened their long-range attacks.

Just when Pei Yan was slightly elated at the success of his strategy, two giant-hammer-wielding mutants charged directly at him. Without more thought, he swung his knife intending to slice, but this time he paid dearly!

The giant hammer met the long knife! With a loud bang, instead of splitting the hammer in half as anticipated, the hammer bounced high, shattering itself, while Pei Yan was forcefully smashed into the ground, embedded in its surface.

Giving Pei Yan no chance to escape, five hammer-armed mutants surrounded him instantly, pounding him repeatedly. With each successive blow, the trembling earth endured such assault, eventually overturning. The impact gouged deep trenches into the ground, flipping massive soil clumps, turning the battlefield upside down, a convulsion lasting five minutes before it gradually settled.

Gazing at the dust slowly settling over Pei Yan's fallen spot, someone mumbled in the silent refuge tavern: "He, he, must be dead this time!"

Looking at the screen, Raphael deduced that this person seemed doomed unless he had an extraordinary regeneration technique or Substitution Technique. Otherwise, even if not dead, he would be gravely injured, making escape difficult amidst the Disaster Legion's siege. Yet, an unsettling feeling pervaded Raphael's mind, suggesting this matter wouldn't end so easily.

Considering this, he glanced at Sifuer and the others nearby. The flash of surprise on their faces quickly faded to calm, as they watched the screen in anticipation of subsequent developments. Noticing this, Raphael chuckled and prodded, "It looks like my wager with Miss Sifuer is a win for me; he didn't last three days!"

"The fight hasn't ended yet; the screen hasn't disappeared, right? Wait and see!"

Taking heed of these words, Raphael narrowed his eyes, realizing the boy might not be dead. They probably knew more details, prompting him to ask, "Oh! So does Miss Sifuer think he has the ability to escape?"

This time, Sifuer and the others didn't answer him. Having witnessed Pei Yan utilize the Spatial Teleportation ability, they tacitly kept this information concealed. Bailang and Sifuer exchanged a silent glance, aware of each other's thoughts.

On the battlefield, Pei Yan used Ye Jiumu's ability for a successful escape at the moment the giant hammer fell. He activated his camouflage imprint ability, hiding himself in mid-air, pale-faced and drenched in sweat, fearfully watching the giant mutants below.

He finally figured out what that strange sensation was when the battle began!
