"How do you fight a thing like that?" Luna whispered, her voice trembling with awe and dread.
She bit her lower lip, eyes locked on the Titan as it lumbered across the jagged mountains. Each of its thunderous steps shook the earth, sending tremors through the ground and ripples of terror across the world.
Its colossal, humanoid form, carved from obsidian-black stone, gleamed under the dim sky. Etched into its surface were glowing, rune-like markings, pulsing like molten armor fused to its flesh, radiating an ancient and malevolent power.
Luna's mind was still racing, grasping for a plan, when Ginyu charged into the action. He fearlessly launched himself off the ground, his body cutting through the air like a blade as he flew toward the approaching Titan.
His face was a mask of defiance, untouched by doubt.
With a fierce cry, Ginyu swung his forged weapon as its blade pulsed with radiant qi. Blasts of energy erupted from its edge, striking the Titan with explosive force.
The blade then extended impossibly, stretching across the vast distance to slam into the Titan's shoulder with a bone-rattling impact. For a fleeting moment, the Titan's catastrophic march faltered, the ground stilling beneath its weight.
Its glowing red eyes then swiveled toward Ginyu. To the monstrous being, he was nothing—a mosquito buzzing before a god, fragile and insignificant. It did not roar, but the heavens themselves bellowed in its place.
The sky darkened as shadow wraiths, born from the Titan's malice, poured from the clouds like a torrent of nightmares, descending upon Ginyu with relentless fury.
Luna's heart surged. She couldn't stand idle. She summoned her courage and called upon the primal concept of fire. Deep within her, the rune binding her to the sun god flared to life, its warmth flooding her veins with searing power. Her small hands trembled as she focused. And with a single, resolute thought, a weapon forged of pure flame materialized in her grip.
The fire licked at her skin, its heat a fierce embrace, yet it no longer burned her. She had mastered the essence she wielded, her control now a blazing extension of her will.
The spear Luna forged towered over her. Its crimson flames crackled with primal essence and blazed like a newborn star.
The wraiths, drawn by the surge of her power, abandoned Ginyu and swarmed toward her. Their shadowy forms shrieking through the air as they rained in her direction.
Luna charged forward, her fire spear a blazing arc of destruction. The first wraith was cleaved in two, its ethereal form consumed by the spear's searing flames. A second lunged, swinging a jagged, broken blade, but the weapon shattered on contact with her spear's inferno. With a fierce thrust, she drove the spear through its skull-like visage, and the ghostly figure exploded into wisps of ash and smoke.
In less than a minute, more wraiths crumbled before her. As expected, their spectral army was no match for her relentless advance. She moved like a wildfire through the Titan's ghostly legion, each strike of her spear a burst of light against the encroaching darkness.
Fire was the sacred emblem of the Fire Keepers—an element that banished shadows and birthed them in equal measure. It was a force of destruction and creation, capable of snuffing life and sustaining it.
Luna had chosen to wield sorcery through fire not merely because of the sun god's rune that bound her to its power, but because it mirrored her soul and ambitions. As a Fire Keeper, she was destined to both raze and rebuild, to forge something greater from the ashes of what was.
She had forsaken everything. Her home, safety, certainty…to become more than she was. Those sacrifices would not be in vain.
A new wraith plummeted from the sky, crashing onto the stone path with a bone-rattling thud. It was a grotesque knight. Its armored form sprouted black, tattered wings while its face was skull-like and illuminated by twin orbs of sickly green smoke.
Luna lunged, her movements fluid and precise. She ducked beneath the arc of its massive greatsword, her eyes gleaming with unyielding resolve. She slid beneath its legs in a blur of motion and emerged behind it before it could react.
And in one swift motion, Luna plunged her spear into the wraith's chest. The flames erupted in a blinding flare. With a deft twist, she flipped the creature's hulking form to the ground as if it weighed nothing. Her Battle Aura surged outward like a radiant wave of power that cloaked the mountains in a chilling, electric presence.
She climbed atop the fallen wraith and turned her gaze to the Titan ahead, which was locked in a cataclysmic duel with Ginyu.
The Saint's eyes were now pitch-black voids that burned with an otherworldly intensity as he fought with a strength that seemed to fracture the very fabric of space.
He streaked toward the Titan's chest at blinding speed, and his fist collided with a thunderous boom that echoed across the peaks. The Titan staggered and was hurled back by the raw and unrestrained might of a fighter like Ginyu.
'Now I see why they sent only him to face the Titan,' Luna thought, her heart pounding with awe.
Without the mortal realm's constraints like Balance to temper his power, Ginyu fought with a ferocity that could reshape worlds.
Sensing their master's agony, the Wraiths abandoned their assault and swarmed back to the Titan in a frenzied, shadowy tide.
The vigilant Ginyu darted out of their path, his form a blur against the roiling sky.
As soon as they merged, the Titan's eyes turned brighter. The shadow it cast onto the mountains grew bigger as it went on to unleash its ominous power onto its enemies. It was an invisible wave that rippled through the mountains as it struck its targets. Time itself seemed to fray, and everything slowed to a dreamlike crawl, as if the universe had been plunged into molasses.
Out of the blue, Luna's body grew heavy. Her limbs became sluggish as if wading through quicksand. Her thoughts became fragmented, each one slipping away before it could fully form. Where was she? Why was she here?
The Titan loomed in her vision, and its massive form drifted forward in an eerie dance. However, her mind struggled to process the sight. It was as if her brain had been submerged in fog. And each movement of the colossus unfolded in agonizing slow motion.
'How could something so immense wield such a terrifying power?' The thought flickered before dissolving into the haze.
She remained still until…
Pat!
"Luna!" Ginyu's voice cut through the fog like a blade. His hand struck her back—the jolt snapping her senses awake.
She gasped, her heart lurching as reality crashed back into focus. To her shock, the Titan was now mere meters away, its towering form blotting out the sky.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
'When did Ginyu reach here?' The question spun in her mind, disorienting her further.
His dark eyes bored into hers, fierce yet steady. "In the Dream Realm, you must always expect the unexpected to survive. Sorcery demands a master who is fully aware, fully in control. How will you answer this challenge?"
'How will I….'
Suddenly, the mountains trembled once more as the Titan increased its speed. Each step was slow and deliberate as the mountains reverberated. Its crimson eyes glowed with malevolent intent, unyielding despite the mortal threat these humans had proven to be.
Ginyu sighed, a mix of exasperation and resolve. His gaze flickered between Luna and the advancing colossus. He gritted his teeth and acted fast by striking the Titan with golden lightning that pushed back. Just like all the titans, it was marching towards the Astral Vigil, and Ginyu's duty was to make sure that it didn't even get into the Astral Vigil territory.
If it crossed the Grand Mountains, it would be much harder to push it back or fight because of the geography of this world.
'How will I answer this challenge?'
While Ginyu pushed back Titan, Luna stayed in a daze as the Titan's effects slowly wore off. She had protection against mental attacks, but this one was strong enough to bypass her mental blocks, or maybe she didn't even notice the attack in the first place.
She tightened her grip on the fire spear, and its flames flared brighter as if responding to her warrior's resolve. The rune on her arm pulsed even more, and the titan's power was completely exiled from her mind.
'I am a Fire Keeper,' she anchored her thoughts as she glared at the looming titan. Her heart blazed with defiance.
"Stay sharp, Luna!" Ginyu called, already soaring back toward the Titan. His silhouette flickered against the churning sky, and his qi-infused soft blade slashed through the returning wraiths with surgical precision.
Each strike sent ghostly fragments scattering like embers on the wind.
Luna took a steadying breath, forcing her mind to focus. If she were to achieve sainthood truly, she would need to see things from a perspective where it is possible to control fire, despite her mortal limits. Only through sheer will would her victory present itself to her.
She planted her feet into the ground, and the stone beneath her feet cracked under the heat as all the strong essence pulled itself towards her. It whispered with clarity, and Luna heard its calling. Most of the Qi belonged to the Concept of Fire....she felt it down to her bones.
With a fierce war cry, she thrust her spear skyward and summoned a torrent of flames that spiraled into a blazing spire. The fire roared and burned away the shadows that had grown around her.
With that, she charged forward, her spear a comet's tail of fire as she carved herself a path through the shadows.
Ahead, Ginyu battled the Titan with unrelenting ferocity. His fists were cloaked in crackling black energy. He struck with the force of collapsing stars. Each blow sent shockwaves rippling through the air. This time, Titan staggered, and its stone splintered at the edges. It then retaliated with terrifying might by swinging a massive fist that tore through the air like a falling mountain. Ginyu dodged, but the sheer force of the strike sent him spiraling backward—his body slamming into the rocky terrain
"Ginyu!"
Luna bit onto her lip, her voice raw with urgency. She sprinted toward him, dispatching a wraith with a fiery thrust as she ran.
The Titan's eyes locked onto her, and for a moment, the world seemed to still. Its gaze was a void, endless and consuming, threatening to swallow her resolve.
Luna turned to it and gritted her teeth in defiance of its great power. Its dark powers were unlike anything she had fought before. They crawled into her mind and made her feel things she often preferred to keep bottled up.
But Luna was no stranger to facing opponents far stronger than her. She leaped onto a jagged outcrop and pointed her blazing spear at the titan. More essence poured into it until its flames started to gain a white layer.
In that moment, Luna experienced an awakening of sorts. All the essence flowing to her became louder. But it didn't make a noise or feel disorganized. The Qi coming to her was more distinct, each strong and feeling different.
Was this what True Sorcery was? The absolute communication with the world?
Upon understanding that truth, Luna knew she had accomplished what the Gate of Insight needed her to accomplish. A weird smug grew on her face as she channeled through the sun god's rune to its fullest, and her spear ignited into a blinding lance of solar flame.
She then hurled it with all her strength, the weapon streaking through the sky like a meteor. It struck the Titan's chest, erupting in an explosion of light and fire that shook the mountains to their roots.
The Titan staggered, its stone form cracking, molten light seeping from the hole in its chest. The wraiths wailed in agony, and one by one their forms dissolved in the radiance.
Ginyu, who was recovering, shot her a grin, his black eyes glinting with approval. "You get it now!" He mouthed as he watched the titan lose its balance, only to regain it a second later and direct its rage to Luna.
It raised its hand, and the Dreaming seemed to bend to its will.
The ground Luna was standing on churned and jagged spikes of black stone tore out of the mountain peak. Her flames surged, and a protective corona enveloped her. She leaped, dodging the spikes with almost natural grace.
This occupied the titan long enough for Ginyu to rejoin the action by flying and stopping in front of the titan's damaged chest. He observed the area and started gathering energy for his next attack.
He didn't draw power from the world like any other follower of the Qi path. No. Ginyu gathered his own qi to create something unique. He put one hand behind his back and raised the left one with the palm pointing at the creature's chest.
Kree!
There was a wave of power as his left arm turned completely black and he conjured a strange form of power. The air stilled, and the titan seized its motion once it sensed the ominous power rise.
It roared and used its mental attack once again to slow down its opponent. But it was too late, Ginyu had already clenched his fist with force. There was a powerful burst of power, and a metal spike erupted from Titan's damaged chest. It couldn't endure the pain. It let out a scream so loud that it split the clouds. Then fell to its knees as the spike grew longer and longer while it produced more spikes, each breaking the stone skin like it was made from paper.
[The Heavens punished your kind. And though you're unkillable, we can always send you back to slumber.]
Ginyu used great communication on the Titan writhing in pain from the growing spikes.
[MORTALS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN COCKY]
The Titan responded with a heavy voice that shook the world.
[EVENTUALLY, YOU WILL ALL DIE AND YOUR KIND WILL NO LONGER WALK ANY REALM. EVEN THE DRAGONS THOUGHT THEY WERE ALL POWERFUL, BUT WHERE ARE THEY NOW? EXTINCT! ONLY THE IMMORTALS WILL REMAIN WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE….AH!]
Another spike grew—this one tore through its neck, forcing the titan to fall on its fours. The pain was something no immortal could just shrug off.
[You underestimate the Human Spirit]
With that, the titan's shadow changed, and the spikes began to twist around its body to hold it in place. Its stone body cracked under the intense pressure, causing it even more pain than before.
It screamed for several minutes…hours maybe. And Luna watched with a cold, distant glare.
When it finally stopped its cries, the titan was frozen in place with multiple protrusions growing out of its body. It was now just any other mountain, but with spikes growing out of it.
Silence returned to the world, but the damage it had done to the Grand Mountains remained.
After confirming that there was no motion coming from the Titan, Ginyu turned to Luna with a normal face.
"Don't be terrified, that is just my Second Domain. Without your strike, I wouldn't have infected him…so thank you."
Luna's eyes switched between the titan and Ginyu. She didn't know who to fear more, the creature that can't die.
…Or the human who had made it wail in pain for hours. His abilities had left her quiet with a frightening feeling. Maybe that's what he wanted her to feel. To let her know that she shouldn't cross the Astral Vigil.
"Infect it?"
He nodded. "I infected it with my essence. I happen to have two domains. One lets me control my essence, and the second lets me turn it into something lethal. With a pinch of sorcery, I can manipulate how lethal."
As soon as he landed on the ground, he staggered and fell on one knee.
Cough! Cough!
With the second cough, blood was dripping from his nose, and his eyes had turned bloodshot. He coughed more until he started coughing up actual blood. The veins around his neck turned black. He pressed his teeth to push it back.
Luna ran to help him, but he put out his hand and stopped her.
"Stop...my essence is lethal to all living things, including myself. Don't worry, I've done this…quite a few times," he strained while grinding his teeth. His fingers dug into the rock and made visible lines as he struggled to endure the pain.
As she watched him struggle, a dark thought crossed Luna's mind.
'I could kill him here just in case he's a threat.'
The Visionaries weren't innocent, no matter how good they acted. To her, people like Aaron Phillips decided to abandon the mortal realm to build this peaceful utopia while the human population continues to drop.
Sure, they trained one of the greatest ascenders of their generation, but that doesn't take away the fact that they do not care about what happens to the Mortals.
'I am now a Saint. I can kill him now and say he died from bleeding or something like that.'
Luna carefully thought out the possibilities. And in the end, she decided the future wouldn't look good if she Ginyu here.
'If I am to defeat a Visionary, I need to observe and learn more of this world.'
With that, she relaxed all her murderous thoughts and waited for Ginyu to heal. At least now she knew that the strongest Sect members were not as invincible as she had thought.
