Goblin Teeth: A Monster Party LitRPG

147 - Elyndris: The Golden Crown

When it was time for metamorphosis, Elyndris crawled into a box. She then activated the ability, wrapping herself in a cocoon and drifting off to sleep. When she awoke within the void, Elyndris found that she had gained two levels. The goblin eating the saved bits of monsters, she presumed. This was good, all the more to add to her power.

Then she began to explore her options.

What form should she take next? One suited to spellcasting would be ideal, but a form to move and hunt excited her as well. Or she could make herself indestructible, creating a form that cannot be killed.

Or, Elyndris thought, she could make herself into something the world has never seen before.

The mutation potion had converted into a biotrait point, as she had hoped. This left her with nineteen biotraits, fourteen minus the five spent on Metamorphosis, and twelve growth points. But before she would spend these, there was the mark to consider. Not only had it given her attribute points and a biotrait, but it has also unlocked a whole new side of the system. One she knew of in the past, but had forgotten.

Grafting. The ability to modify biotraits with magic. She only had one option for this. Voidtouched. She could make any existing biotrait voidtouched, but she didn't know what that would do exactly.

Most curious, she could apply this to Metamorphosis. What would that change? It inverted her gravity stone, making it reduce her weight rather than increase it. Would it somehow reverse Metamorphosis?

That didn't feel right to her. It cost a biotrait point to apply it… and rarely was spending a biotrait BAD. Though it could be. It was a risk. Was she willing to take it?

There was the divine potion that could remove a biotrait. If push came to shove, then she could use it. So, she made the choice. Grafting Voidtouched onto Metamorphosis.

As soon as she accepted the change, the status void flashed a myriad of colors. It was only an instant, but it was noticeable.

From a distance, a creature with an impossibly long neck slithered towards her. Its neck was so long, she could not see a body, nor a hint of one. The head was shockingly human-like, with three eyes made of different-colored stone. Hair-like glass shards grew in place of hair, and its teeth were like diamonds.

"What have you done?" It asked her in a voice that screamed like blades being sharpened.

Elyndris found she could speak. "I have only applied a graft to my ability. Who are you? Why do you intrude?"

It looked her up and down, "I see." The voice changed to a more tolerable tone, "You have done something unexpected. There is no information on how to proceed."

"Do not ignore me, angel." Elyndris spoke, "Who are you?"

"As you said, I am an angel. One assigned to this world to solve problems like these."

"What is the problem?"

"There is no information on how to proceed with the interaction of Voidtouched and Metamorphosis." Its view went hazy for a moment, "Ah, I see. You are the only creature in existence to have gained this ability."

"Well, that makes sense. Most larvae naturally evolve. The chances that one is both intelligent and cannot evolve are… well, me. So what happens?"

"I will bring this to the one who designed Metamorphosis. They will solve the issue shortly."

"What do you think the solution would be?"

"If I were to guess, access to biotraits from creatures beyond the stars."

"Beyond the WHAT?!"

"Apologies, I have said too much." It began to move away.

"Wait! Angel."

It slowed its retreat, "Yes?"

"You saw my curse, I'm sure. I received it when I was only a few moments old. It is unfair and unjust. How do I rid myself of it?"

"I cannot help you. Seek an altar keeper of Zenthaviel. It is their place to investigate these claims. So long."

Elyndris was left alone in the status void. How long did she have to wait? Not long, as a few minutes later, a notification appeared.

[Missing integration resolved. Thank you for your patience.]

Checking her biotrait menu, the angel was right. More options had flooded in. Things she didn't recognise or had any idea what they could be. Hyper-articulated limbs, Amorpheus Extensions, Inner-dimensional Body Structure, Fractal Cells, and more.

Even more exciting was the option to increase the graft level of Metamorphosis. Would this give her even MORE options to choose from? More powerful choices, perhaps?

It would cost another point, but without a guarantee of what would happen, she didn't want to risk wasting a biotrait point. Elyndris then spent a few hours reading through them before finally settling on a vision.

First, her statistics. This form was going to be spell-caster-focused. Pure mental capability. Currently, her Intelligence was fifteen, Will was eleven, and Charm was seven. She needed these statistics to reach fifteen, minimum. So, four into will and seven to charm.

Elyndris received the notifications for both Unshakable Will and Devilishly Charming. Now she was only missing the dexterity feat; then she would discover what happened when you had all six.

One of the skills that she had recalled for Daggat before she had completely forgotten was called Balanced Mind. It was unlocked when one had fifteen in all mental attributes. Its benefit was a plus three boost to all three attributes, with a penalty to this boost equaling the difference between the highest and lowest attribute. Keeping them equal would net you a total of nine points. A powerful skill that keeps you from specializing. Once she had a skill point to spare, this was a priority.

The body had a similar skill, Balanced Body. But that was not as important. For now, she would stick with the fifteen in all three mental attributes.

What Elyndris needed next was senses. Thaumic senses were too good for a spell caster, so she spent five points to gain refined magic sense and tremor sense, which combined back into thaumic sense, which she mutated with Extended Area.

This time, Elyndris ignored Complex Organs. She did not need them. In fact, they would be a hindrance. This would make it difficult to speak, however. So, this was a problem she would solve next.

One of the voidtouched biotraits she had available was called Voidcall. It was not speech, but what it did was allow her to create a psychic wail that could be sensed by a creature of her choosing. Its range was limitless, which seemed to be the point. To scream into the cosmos and hope that someone hears you.

With the purchase of Voidcall, Elyndris unlocked psychic biotrait options. Through this route, she chose telepathy. Now she had the means to communicate and to sense the world.

Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.

Taking a look at the upgrades for Voidcall, one of them was called Void Message. It would allow her to send messages through the cosmos, not just a call. That seemed similar to telepathy. She purchased the upgrade.

[Biotrait Synergy requirements detected. Voidcall [Void Message] and Telepathy. Combine into Void Whisper? Yes or No?]

Of course! This combination gave her a telepathic connection over limitless distance. Normally, she could communicate great distances with her party through the chat function. Now, she could speak with anyone she knew, no matter the distance. Immensely powerful, should she meet anyone of note.

With communication done, the next was defenses. There was a reason she did not choose Complex Organs. Because one of her new options was called Amorphous Body. Without organs, that would turn her into a slime-like creature. Albeit, worm-shaped. That wasn't enough for her. So, she experimented with a few ideas.

Like before, she could select biotraits before locking them in, allowing her to test out different combinations. After much tinkering, she settled on the following.

First, she selected exoskeleton and mutated it to Full Exoskeleton, and then she purchased reinforced chitin. This gave her full Vitaferrite body armor. Then, selecting Amorphous form, these synergised into Quickferrite Form.

Her new body was now a sleek, shining metal form. Not quite liquid, not quite solid. Something alien.

This left her with two points. These last two were going to be doing some work, but she knew exactly what was needed.

First, Ambient Energy Absorption. This was a void touched biotrait, and it allowed her to absorb energy from the sun, stars, or other sources of heat, into fuel. Without complex organs that require extra oxygen or more calories, this would be an efficient way to stay alive. No need to breathe or eat, as long as there is light. Similar to photosynthesis, but more efficient.

Choosing this biotrait changed her coloring from silver to a bright gold. Must have had something to do with the quickferrite form. Hopefully, that meant the surface area to draw energy from was increased.

Now, that left her with one last issue. How to eat for experience.

This was solved by the last, and the strangest, void touched biotrait she selected.

Biomeld.

This biotrait allowed her to combine her physiology with that of a willing creature. She checked beforehand, and the upgrades were just delicious. Mind Meld, which allowed her host to swap mental attributes. Biotrait Integration gave her host a measure of her biotrait abilities, if they were applicable. The last, Corpse Meld, allowed her to meld her body into a corpse for some time. Gaining the use of its body.

While merged, she and the host would both gain the experience from devouring their defeated. Though in the party, she didn't need to worry about that. However, Elyndris was not so naive as to assume things would always be as they are now.

Elyndris had gained a Boon of Sahrzuel. This allowed her to upgrade one biotrait. Using this, she selected Corpse Meld.

Her next three points were going straight into this biotrait. She could merge with Daggat and use his brain power to forge spells while he used hers to defend them with telekinesis. Merge into Anath to protect her with a full armored form. Slay a giant and take its corpse to destroy a fortress.

The greatest downsides to this form were its lack of offense. This is where her spells came in. As long as she had magic. That, and she would heal slowly. That was the benefit of organs. They could help your body recover quickly.

Elyndris would just make sure she didn't get hurt.

Now that she had her points settled, it was time to focus on the physical form.

Long and flat. Almost blade-like. She made sure the body had a clear head side and a rear side; body language was a part of communication. The edges of her body were pointed, like a saw.

No more than three feet long and six inches wide, she was like a living sword.

Before she returned to the world, Elyndris admired her new statistics and form. It was strange. Not the large dragon she had envisioned herself as. But Elyndris was not beholden to her old form. She did not need to follow its footsteps.

This was a creature of her own design and nothing like this world had seen. The genseed still reads Larva. But, in the privacy of her own mind, she gave this form its own name.
