Ruiz stood up and paced around the office twice. He clearly had a different style than Hughes, who typically stood at the window, gazing outside when thinking.
After a while, he stopped and looked at Mahong: "I'll contact ICE to have them screen the incoming personnel information over there. If these robbers entered normally, there will be relevant information from customs. If they used false passports, at least we could track down where they previously stayed."
"Mahong, quickly track their movements from surveillance and on-site investigation, find where their hideout in New York is. If you need support, call SRT."
Mahong nodded, "Got it, I've already arranged for the tech department to investigate nearby road surveillance. The truck they used has been identified, now we're just waiting for further information."
Ruiz: "Jimmy, based on the current clues, the murder case on your side should be connected to the robbery case on Mahong's side, let's handle them jointly. Mahong has experience investigating murder cases too. Contact the Newark office, this case probably has nothing to do with them."
Jimmy nodded: "There's another issue, Newark's Riley suspects Oliver is a spy. He's not investigating the murder case but rather tracking the spy case involving fake passports in their jurisdiction."
Ruiz: "Then transfer the fake passport documents to them, let them investigate the follow-up. The murder case should just be their preparation for cleaning up case traces, it likely has nothing to do with the deceased."
Jimmy: "Understood, I will fully cooperate with Mahong to investigate the robbery case."
Ruiz waved his hand, and Jimmy and Mahong left his office. It was informed from above to handle them jointly, so Jimmy had no choice but to investigate with Mahong.
Mahong: "Jimmy, you go back first. We'll notify you if there are any leads here. You should handle the matters in Newark first."
Jimmy nodded: "Alright, you do your thing. I'll go back and write the report first. There's a lot of trouble this time, better write it down first to avoid forgetting the details later."
Jimmy sighed while walking to the office, as enjoyable it was when shooting, it was equally difficult when writing a report. He approached Neil and gestured for him to follow. The two left the office.
Jimmy needed to sync up with Neil because the middleman's departure would create some discrepancies in Jimmy's report. However, Neil treated his friend well. After the middleman brought Jimmy and Neil inside, he left from the back, so there was no need for him to be present during the face-to-face meeting between the buyers and sellers.
Jimmy lit a cigarette for himself. Neil didn't smoke, which he knew. Nevertheless, he first asked a personal question: "Neil, what happened to your face?"
Neil's face was a bit red, which was clearly visible when they stood together, even though it was covered with foundation, it did not completely conceal it.
Neil's expression was not good: "I met that person again yesterday, had a little conflict, but it's nothing, it's resolved."
Jimmy: "Are you sure there's no problem? If necessary, I can go and bring the person back."
Neil hurriedly said: "No, no, there's absolutely no problem. Please don't worry about him, he won't talk nonsense... I promise, trust me, it's fine."
Jimmy nodded and took a puff of his cigarette: "Alright, let's go over yesterday's matter again. Pay some attention to the report you're giving to Mahong."
The topic on Neil quickly ended. After they went through the process in the warehouse, Jimmy threw away the cigarette butt, and the two returned upstairs.
With such communication, Jimmy's report would be much easier to write because all three were killed by him. After Jimmy left, Neil needed to watch over the artworks at the scene, so he hadn't come out of the warehouse. The three sellers were dead, and he was safe, which made it all very reasonable.
The report had to be written, but there was no need to work overtime to finish it. Jimmy only wrote a portion before packing up his things to go home and rest.
The next day, back in the office, Mark was already there, "Yang, what exactly happened? How did Julia get shot?"
Jimmy: "You haven't gone to see her?"
Mark shrugged: "I'll go today; it was a bit late when I got back yesterday."
Jimmy: "Alright, yesterday we went to investigate the white-collar group's robbery case and got ambushed by the robbers from outside. Julia was targeted because she got off the car early. By the way, Jones also got shot, only Mahong was unscathed. When you go, remember to bring two gifts."
Mark nodded: "I'll go see them at noon. What needs to be done now?"
Jimmy: "Oliver's case has been consolidated. I called Riley last night; their investigation will continue on their end. Someone will come over this morning to retrieve Oliver's evidence. His and his family's remains will also be sent to Newark for burial. Riley will notify their family to claim the bodies."
After Jimmy finished, he returned to his seat. Mahong's leads hadn't come through yet, so he still had time to finish the report he hadn't completed yesterday.
Mark completed the evidence transfer with the people from the Newark office and then directly left the office to visit Julia and Jones. Jimmy didn't mind him sneaking off during work hours; he often did that too. Besides, it was relatively slow now and would not affect the work.
The report was successfully written, and Jimmy checked it roughly before saving it. The report wasn't to be submitted now but would be processed together when the case ends.
