Not understanding the way of Cutting the Three Corpses, Nezha simply asked other questions. After organizing the issues he encountered while seeking the Method of Becoming a Saint, he picked the most important parts to ask the Daoist Ancestor. The Three Pure Ones, Nuwa, and others looked at Nezha in confusion after hearing him. "Were these questions just discussed? I didn't hear them, either!"
Ignoring others' gazes, Nezha looked towards the Daoist Ancestor, who showed no expression but slowly answered Nezha's questions. However, the responses were always full of profound meaning and conciseness; usually, Nezha would ask a long list while the Daoist Ancestor would answer with just a few words.
It's not that the Daoist Ancestor was unwilling to teach, but from his perspective, Nezha was completely going astray. "I taught you the quickest and easiest way, why insist on the troublesome approach?"
Nezha found the Daoist Ancestor's answers rather headache-inducing, akin to a student asking a teacher if their method was correct, only to receive the response, "You're overcomplicating; do it this way, then this way, and the problem is solved! Why use a troublesome method?"
Yet, in Nezha's eyes, what exactly do "this way" and "then this way" entail?
I'm not looking for the fastest method; I just can't solve the problem right now!
This reflects not just a disparity in knowledge and comprehension but also in cultivation and understanding of the Great Dao. It's evident that, as a first-time teacher, the Daoist Ancestor had not realized this point.
Seeing that the Daoist Ancestor was about to move on, Nezha couldn't hold back any longer, "If you don't teach me, don't even think about continuing this lecture!"
"Daoist Ancestor, I beg your pardon, this disciple is dull and has understood only thirty percent. May we pause so I can learn from my fellow brothers?"
The Daoist Ancestor, about to continue, was somewhat surprised by Nezha's words. "Is what I taught so difficult? It seemed quite simple?"
He glanced at Nezha, then at the six in front, who, in his eyes, were all at the same level as Nezha. Six of them understood it well, and only one understood thirty percent; who was lying?
He scrutinized the six before him.
Taiqing Laozi lowered his eyes, "I never claimed I understood!"
Yuan Shi maintained a frosty expression, "I did understand, but not completely!"
Tongtian confidently said, "Wasn't it obvious when I shook my head?"
Nuwa looked around guiltily, "I just implied I understood more than others, not that I comprehended it all!"
As for Jieyin and Zhunti, they had innocent looks on their faces, furrowed brows, and bitter expressions—was that not obvious enough?
Those further back were mostly bewildered; among the Twelve Ancestor Witches, apart from Houtu, the others were sound asleep, clearly enjoying the pleasure of a classroom nap.
In the crowd, Kunpeng, too, was utterly confused. "What on earth are they talking about? I don't understand a thing; did I take a beating for nothing?"
Hong Jun, who had been immersed in his teaching, quickly noticed the situation after glancing around. Is it that Taiqing and the others are too lacking in comprehension to understand my lecture?
Certainly not. In the entire Primordial Realm, aside from himself, few would dare claim higher comprehension than Taiqing Laozi. If even he was confused, there's no need to mention others.
Surely, his teachings were simply too difficult to grasp. Although his role was to educate and the process of teaching was his goal, the extent to which these individuals understood didn't greatly concern him.
Firstly, no one likes doing work in vain. If Hong Jun spent great effort teaching for a million years and in the end, no one understood, that would be a massive failure.
Secondly, he still hoped that his teachings would be inherited in the Primordial Realm. Whether he would still be considered a Primordial Being after harmonization was indeed a big question mark.
"Discuss amongst yourselves. I will resume teachings after another thousand years."
After saying this, he disappeared. In his view, the individuals before him each understood two to three tenths; by discussing amongst themselves, they could scrape things together. The three lectures at the Zixiao Palace concerned his harmonization—stopping or slowing down was acceptable, but going back was not.
To make him repeat his teachings was impossible.
After the Daoist Ancestor spoke, he vanished.
The others exchanged glances, hesitant to speak, given the earlier mix-up.
Nezha felt nothing about it, "We need to save face, I understand."
He was the first to rise, bowing and saying, "Teacher's teachings are deep and unfathomable, this little brother is dull—may I verify with you through discussion?"
Nezha's words evidently gave them a way out. Given their amicable relations with Nezha, The Three Pure Ones and the Western duo nodded in agreement. Seeing this, Nezha glanced at Nuwa, thinking that his good teacher shouldn't be left out!
Nuwa raised her head haughtily, intending to act coy but was immediately pulled back by her brother Fu Xi. "Sister, now is not the time for pridefulness."
He quickly spoke before Nuwa, "Alright."
Nuwa, though slightly dissatisfied at her brother's interference, knew his intentions were good, so she said, "Alright, but my brother must be included."
Nezha immediately nodded, "Fu Xi is a good man, including him is fine."
The others discussed briefly and nodded in agreement, reasoning that Nuwa, seated behind The Three Pure Ones, couldn't be lacking—everyone was currently filled with gourd-half theories, and perhaps Nuwa held a missing piece?
Di Jun, behind them, wished to join with Taiyi. However, Taiqing would not even glance their way, and Taiyi, being proud, didn't want to trouble Nezha, opting to pull Di Jun aside for their own discussion.
In fact, Nezha wished to lend them a hand, but doing so would only wound Taiyi's pride. Nezha could forsake face in pursuit of the Great Dao, but Taiyi evidently couldn't.
Nezha and the other seven sat close together, enveloped by a hazy Dao Qi that prevented outsiders from spying on their discussions. Laozi, seated on the cushion, naturally began lecturing first.
Following the order of the cushions came Yuan Shi, Tongtian, Jieyin, Zhunti, and Nezha. Fu Xi, though with the poorest talent and the least understanding, occasionally interjected but mostly sat, listened, and remembered.
He fully recognized the gap between himself and those before him, admitting it might be arduous for him, but his sister held great promise. As long as he could aid her somewhat, what would it matter to him?
Initially, Nezha assumed that these few ahead figured everything out, yet upon hearing their talks, realized, Well, you're not much better than me, are you?
This thought quickly passed, and he fully immersed himself in the Dao discussion. Among those present, he genuinely wished to offend none.
Being fully engrossed in something makes time fly; in a blink, a millennium passed, a span shorter than even the Divine Enthronement battle lasting a few decades.
Those celestial beings back then likely never expected that a minor mortal battle could entrap them within.
The eight receded each their Fortune Clouds, the surrounding barrier dissipated, and each wore expressions of lingering interest. Aside from Hong Jun, they now stood among the Primordial Realm's elite beings.
Finding others of equal match for Dao discussion would prove difficult now.
Nezha furrowed his brow at the shortness of time; he increased his understanding from thirty to sixty percent, directly doubling it, but didn't fully grasp everything—would he comprehend the further teachings?
The others clearly realized this issue, appearing worried. If they found it challenging, those further down would find comprehending two or three tenths fortunate.
Why was their path to enlightenment blocked? It was not without cause.
Soon, the Daoist Ancestor reappeared, again expressionless, continuing his teachings. Nezha attentively listened and soon noticed a difference.
Compared to previously having easy truths, this time, the teachings were broken down and finely explained. Evidently, Hong Jun had not idled away the millennium, secretly preparing lessons.
Nezha felt truly moved; such teaching dedication indeed honored the title of Daoist Ancestor.
This session was far more effective, with the attendees upfront smiling, and even those struggling at the back somewhat grasped the essence of Cutting the Three Corpses and generally understood the process. Though not mastered entirely, at least they comprehended the procedure.
