Xu Mo didn't know that she, too, was a soul-type protagonist — and hers was actually someone from a higher Realm. Though he had a hunch.

"Were you serious when you threatened the Young Master of an Immortal Clan?"

Xu Mo asked. He had a deeper reason for asking this.

Shuyin's face flushed red. She had been really angry when that Bai Yuntian had dared to step on her father's head.

Anger had taken over, and she had spoken whatever came to mind.

After she had calmed down a little, the reality of what she had done finally settled in.

"I was just speaking in anger, Senior. Right now, I am not even sure if by the next day I would still be eligible to be called a cultivator or not."

"Good," Xu Mo said as he praised her and continued.

"It is good to have some awareness. And I was impressed to see that you held your anger better compared to me back then."

Xu Mo's words made the father and daughter pair look at him suspiciously — like why was a Gold Core Realm cultivator acting like a young boy and going to such lengths to talk to them?

"There is no need to look at me like this. Who has not had some similar type of experience in their life? Though yours is still the most exciting experience, since you dared to talk back to the Young Master of an Immortal Clan."

Shuyin became a little unnatural since she had never expected to be treated in such a calm and soothing manner. All her life, she had been under the impression that cultivators must leave their human side behind and embrace a neutral stance — overlooking everything with arrogance, like they were the chosen ones and the best.

"Clan Head, why didn't you share the good news that an esteemed guest was coming to visit us? It isn't nice gatekeeping information. Aren't we all one big family?"

An elderly voice sounded as an aged man walked in with the support of a cane, his back slightly hunched forward. Beside him, a young female who seemed to be around sixteen or eighteen supported the old man so that he wouldn't fall.

Xu Mo glanced at the newcomer and then at the Clan Head.

The Clan Head's expression could not help but tremble, but he still dared not be presumptuous in front of the True Successor of the Hidden Dragon Sect.

"Um... Senior, the elderly man is our clan's Great Elder, while beside him the young lady is his granddaughter."

Xu Mo raised an eyebrow internally at being addressed as a senior, but he didn't go ahead to correct this misunderstanding.

"Senior, I have heard that you are the True Successor of the Hidden Dragon Sect. Can I be presumptuous enough to ask you to take my granddaughter as your concubine?"

'Huh?!' Xu Mo controlled his expression of disbelief with great self-control, almost to the point of making his facial features tighten.

Stolen novel; please report.

"Have you gone senile, old man?"

The Clan Head could not help but become shocked at the audacity of the Great Elder.

Even Shuyin looked shaken, but then she glanced at her father's imposing back and felt that she was lucky to have him to support her. Looking at her fellow clan member — the Great Elder's granddaughter — she recalled that they both had grown up together since a young age. But later, on the path of cultivation, coupled with the growing tensions between her father's faction and the Great Elder's faction, that tension reached its peak when the Great Elder's son and daughter-in-law were brutally murdered by someone inexplicably. The Great Elder, believing it was her father's doing, made sure that his last remaining offspring — his granddaughter — should not come to any harm.

The granddaughter of the Great Elder was also looking at her grandfather with emotions she herself could not explain.

"Do you want to join the Hidden Dragon Sect?"

Xu Mo spoke, and this short sentence made everyone refocus on him.

"Yes, I wish my granddaughter to join the Hidden Dragon Sect," the Great Elder spoke immediately, as if he had already prepared.

"She is already a cultivator, and a peak Qi Refinement one at that. Why would such a talent prefer joining our poor sect? Wouldn't it be better to go to the Verdant Sky Hall?"

Xu Mo, throughout the conversation, remained calm with a worry-free smile gracing his lips.

His eyes didn't even take a second look at the granddaughter of the Great Elder, focusing only on the Great Elder himself.

'No thank you. I already have enough death flags. You can keep your granddaughter and have her marry someone she truly likes... Hey, hey, and why are you looking at me with those big eyes filled with hatred? I am not the protagonist.'

Xu Mo screamed internally like a child. Since reaching the Gold Core Realm, he had unlocked his divine sense. Also, since he was a direct Dao practitioner, he was more sensitive to his surroundings. Even without any effort, he could sense the gazes of others on him. Moreover, as he had been managing the sect while not having many encounters with the outside world, he had strangely honed his ability to read other people's intentions just by looking at their faces or sensing his surroundings.

He attributed this to his Dao of Silence. Maybe it was also slowly progressing toward the third stage, but he wasn't strong enough to sense the Dao directly unless he had an epiphany.

"Senior, your reason for staying at the Hidden Dragon Sect and my granddaughter joining the Hidden Dragon Sect are all for the same reason. You understand me, right?"

"No."

Xu Mo spoke out loud directly. Although he got the hint, why should he go along with the whims of a nobody? It would be fine if the other party were a protagonist or a powerful villain like Bai Yuntian. Explain your intentions in front of your granddaughter yourself.

The Clan Head almost had the urge to laugh out loud looking at the constipated expression of the Great Elder. Forcefully pursing his lips until his teeth started to hurt, he thought about sad events that happened in the past, which made him calm down a little — but he dared not look at the Great Elder's face again unless he was unable to control himself.

"Do you want to join the Hidden Dragon Sect?" he emphasized as he addressed the Clan Head's daughter, since his earlier question had been for both parties.

"Me?!" Shuyin pointed at herself, thinking she might have misheard, but saw that the senior was really looking at her.

Xu Mo nodded at her to confirm that it was really her he was asking. For a moment, her mind went blank, and before she knew it, Shuyin felt her wrist being pulled as a figure with long hair cascading down from head to back shielded her behind themselves.

"Elder Sister?" Shuyin was still unable to understand what was going on, but the granddaughter of the Great Elder seemed to have understood something. Seeing her take this step made the Clan Head and the Great Elder also show a look of enlightenment on their faces.

Only Xu Mo was looking at all four of them in confusion.

Did he say something wrong? Why was the granddaughter of the Great Elder looking at him like she wanted to kill him? And why was the Clan Head also looking at him with a guarded expression? Why was the Great Elder again looking constipated?

'Ugh... I just want to go back home.'

Xu Mo cried inwardly. He wasn't really used to dealing with protagonists. Looking back at his past self, who had thought Shuyin might be a normal protagonist, he wanted to punch himself to death.

Even the whole clan has gone mad. Is this the protagonist aura?
