Dark Sand: My Players Are All Actors

Chapter 359 Fierce Battle

The fierce battle had almost simultaneously erupted on all four sides of the players' war formation!

Yet, each heroic spirit faced different demons, resulting in vastly divergent combat styles.

In the north, the onslaught from the Beidi people, like a tidal wave, hit coastal rocks. Although it enveloped General Han Fuyue and his direct troops in an instant, it could never truly encircle them.

And the demons possessing the bodies of the Beidi people failed to realize the severity of the situation right away.

They believed this inconspicuous army would collapse just as quickly as the outer forces had under the disadvantage of numbers, disintegrating into chaos.

However, in the next second, General Han Fuyue pointed his spear forward, and his troops sprang into action!

The heavy infantry, in well-ordered formations at the front, stepped forward in unison!

Due to a lack of horses in the Qi Dynasty, they had studied many tactics for infantry to overcome cavalry. Although it was hard for infantry to pursue cavalry they had defeated, the combat capability of heavy infantry was never to be underestimated.

The heavy infantry of the Qi Dynasty, laden with armor and weapons weighing up to sixty kilograms and requiring extensive training, were the elite of the Qi Army, valued just as much as the cavalry.

And the heavy infantry led by General Han Fuyue were the elite of the Qi heavy infantry.

The original formation should have had crossbowmen at the forefront, retreating behind the heavy infantry once their volleys were finished. However, due to the suddenness of the attack and the immediate engagement, the crossbowmen were protected behind the heavy infantry.

The heavy infantry at the front bore the brunt of the first impact.

Yet, to the heavy infantry, such an assault was trivial.

There had been a saying since the Chu Dynasty that "one Chu soldier could match five Beidi people," because of the physical condition and equipment disparity at the time.

Many mistakenly think that nomadic people, raised on meat and milk, must all be robust and burly, but this is a complete misconception.

In ancient times, the output of nomadic civilizations was far less stable than that of agrarian ones, meaning that aside from a few individuals, most nomads couldn't afford to regularly consume meat and milk.

On the contrary, agricultural civilizations could ensure a stable food supply.

Therefore, during the Chu Dynasty, the average Chu soldier, both physically and in terms of equipment, could easily crush an average Beidi soldier.

Now, the demons possessing the Beidi faced both the Qi heavy infantry and heavy cavalry, oblivious to what awaited them.

The front-most shield and sword infantry practically squeezed the Beidi cavalry back by sheer force.

These Beidi cavalry, relying on horse archery and impact force, were usually undefeated against infantry. Even renowned generals like General Wei Huo could only combat the Beidi using chariots and cavalry.

Therefore, these demonic soldiers presumably believed that after breaking through the first line of chariots, the openly arrayed infantry would not put up much resistance.

But they were gravely mistaken.

The shield-bearing heavy infantry stood like a tall wall, rendering the impact of the charging horses ineffective.

Furthermore, among General Han Fuyue's heavy infantry, only a small portion were shield and sword soldiers; many were armed with Mazha Blades, large axes, and hook scythes.

After the first charge was repelled, these soldiers immediately swung their large blades and axes, launching a fierce counterattack!

Mazha Blades cleaved through horse heads, the large axes struck down riders, and the hook scythes snapped the legs of horses!

These elite infantry had not feared even the Jin's iron pagodas; how much less the Beidi cavalry, whose armor rate was so low?

The iron pagodas were fully armored and linked with leather straps, allowing these infantry to boldly strike, slashing at the riders and chopping the legs of their horses. Compared to them, the Beidi cavalry seemed as fragile as paper.

Under the onslaught of Mazha Blades, large axes, and hook scythes, the frontline Beidi cavalry fell like wheat before a scythe, collapsing in swathes!

And these elite heavy infantry continued to advance in their orderly ranks!

But that was not all, as the crossbowmen in the rear now came into play.

Raising their Divine Arm Bows, they reached over the heads of their own heavy infantry to launch projectiles far into the distance!

There was no need to aim because there were far too many Beidi cavalry.

Although they boasted an overwhelming numerical advantage, the Beidi cavalry turned into live targets before the might of the strong bows and powerful crossbows.

Above, the phantom figure of Kua Fu was furious. It began to release Demonic Qi towards the ground and directed the demonic soldiers to retaliate with all their power.

"Return fire with arrows!" commanded Kua Fu, and the Beidi cavalry started showcasing their expertise in mounted archery, showering General Han Fuyue's troops with a barrage of arrows!

However, General Han Fuyue was unperturbed by the falling arrows.

The heavy infantry at the front was virtually unaffected, as if being tickled.

Arrows hitting the fully armored infantry merely bounced off if they were unlucky, and at best lodged temporarily in the gaps between armor plates, failing to harm the soldiers within.

But General Han Fuyue's counterattack was far from over.

After the heavy infantry rigidly held the line, forcing the Beidi cavalry apart and creating large gaps in the frontline, the elite heavy cavalry in the rear began to enter the battlefield!
