Lynch looked up and down at the apprentice in front of him, noticing some familiar traces in his brows: "Yes, your name should be Sos, that little kid, right? I didn't expect you to join the association as well."
"Ever since Moon Port fell, my family and I moved to Yim." Sos said, scratching his head a bit embarrassed: "At that time, I didn't know what a mage was, but now I understand that I had already seen a mage back then. Oh, by the way, I'm still wearing the ring you gave me."
The apprentice pulled out a necklace from his collar, with that silver-white ring with a spiral pattern tied to it. "I've kept it with me all this time, though I still don't understand what this magic ring is for. But, Mr. Lynch, what brings you back this time? I'll help you with errands and organize everything."
"I need to convene the Great Mage meeting, but before that, I must first see my mentor." Lynch said to Sos, "You can't help me for now, but when I need you, I know where to find you, don't I?"
"Yes, sir." Sos nodded.
The iron door closed behind Lynch as he continued to walk towards the Great Magic Tower. The courtyard appeared desolate, with snow on the ground left uncleared. Where have all the summoned servants and construct guards gone?
"Child! You're finally back!" An old mage stood on the steps at the entrance of the Great Magic Tower, his layers of wrinkles smoothing out with a smile. He opened his arms and said, "I'm so delighted!"
"Mentor!" Lynch hurried a few steps forward to support Caso's arm. Not seeing him for several years, his teacher looked even older, his once sparse silver hair now completely gone with the wind. He held his mentor's withered fingers, feeling the warmth emanating from them, a familiar sensation.
"Let's talk inside first. This wretched weather is making my bones ache." The old mage pulled Lynch by the arm, like leading his own child, and brought him inside the Great Magic Tower.
"Tell me, Lynch, where have you been?" Caso asked gravely, "Why couldn't my magic find your location, or even predict whether you were alive? What force imprisoned you?"
"That's a long story, teacher." Lynch replied, "If there's time, I'll tell you in detail. But now there's an urgent matter for which I need your help. Can we convene the Great Mage meeting immediately?"
"The Great Mage meeting? It can only be convened in extremely urgent circumstances." Caso said slowly, "Child, tell me what's happening; you must let me know the reason."
"I need the Great Mage meeting to issue an order to prohibit all magic used for non-defensive purposes and to stop all ongoing magical experiments and the creation of magical devices." Lynch said seriously. "The sooner, the better; otherwise, it will be too late."
"I don't understand why this needs to be done. Even if a Great Mage meeting is convened, such an order will not pass." Caso looked into his student's eyes, speaking word by word, "You must at least persuade me first."
Lynch nodded, telling his mentor what he discovered in the southern jungle. He spoke of the Magic God's resurrection and how the Magic Network was absorbing all energy. "I haven't calculated the exact time of the Magic God's resurrection, but the extensive use of magic will surely accelerate the process."
"But..." The Great Mage shook his head, seemingly unable to accept all this at once: "Lynch, you can't just demand all mages to stop using magic."
"It's not just that; all magicians, even giant dragons, must try to reduce their use of magic." Lynch said, with not a hint of jest in his voice. "Until we find a way to stop the resurrection of the Magic God."
"Lynch, are you out of your mind? How could that be possible?" Caso's voice trembled slightly, "It seems you need to rest and reconsider if you need treatment. I will not convene this Great Mage meeting."
Lynch lowered his head, looking at the ground, falling into silence. Caso gently patted his shoulder, trying to calm his student down. Lynch was Caso's favorite student, and his disappearance some time ago had dealt a heavy blow to the old mage. Caso had used various prophecy magic, trying to find Lynch's whereabouts, even at the cost of his own life. Not until recently, when a mage named Pajies brought back the news that 'Lynch is still alive,' did the old mage finally breathe a sigh of relief.
