Lynch woke up.
Thank heavens, everyone could finally breathe a sigh of relief. If there were enough supplies, Morgan even wanted to throw a celebration banquet. The mage's body was still very weak; his face had turned sallow, and his breathing had a wheezing sound, clearly indicating that this mage illness had nearly broken his body. But fortunately, Lynch retained his clear mind.
"Don't worry about me." He said between coughs, "Physical damage can be repaired, I just need some time."
However, Zilvra had always held a skeptical attitude towards this, thinking the mage was just brushing her off. If these were physical injuries, why not let Soka help? The little angel's divine arts would work better in this situation.
Lynch kept his eyes on Zilvra, with a look that clearly conveyed "I know you know, but don't say it out loud." Zilvra was silent for a moment, then she directly pulled the mage up from the ground, brushed the dust off his back, and said, "I think you should know, while you were unconscious, the serpent came here once."
"What? He didn't get you all... Oh, you're all fine now." Lynch said, "But that means he should have already found the ruins of the Magic God, and discovered our trail on his way back. Is that right? Tell me everything."
Zilvra recounted the situation to Lynch, word for word, not leaving out any of the serpent's speech. Lynch listened intently with his head lowered. Zilvra spoke faster and faster, and only when Lynch tightly held her hand, did she stop recounting.
"That damned thing!" Morgan, recalling the events, was furious, "Lynch, tell me, how can I smash that guy's head! Why do my attacks only hit thin air?"
"Perhaps he just used a spell to project here, or he used an illusion technique to conceal his position, or perhaps he was jumping between two spaces back and forth." Lynch shook his head, "I can only know which method it is by seeing him in person. Morgan, I can't help you this time."
"Help?" Zilvra abruptly shook off Lynch's hand, angrily saying, "How long do you want to play the good guy? What's the point of all this you're doing? I don't think you can fight that guy! Look at the state you're in now! What else do you want to do? Do you like putting yourself in danger every time? Can't you just stay quietly in the tower and not care about any of this? Who has the power to stop you from doing that?"
Lynch's body tilted to the side, and he barely managed to stay upright by relying on his magic wand. The mage said nothing beyond his heavy breathing, and even that was trapped in his chest by his tightly pursed lips. Lynch looked at Zilvra, his face bloodless. His health had been ruined, like a withered leaf falling helplessly in response to winter's summoning. Soka looked at the mage worriedly because where his pupils should have been, there was now nothing, just an endlessly rotating blackness. The little angel held her sister's hand, trembling, unsure of what to do.
"It seems I've made you worry." Lynch forced a slight smile, "But you know who could stop me from doing that. I won't find any reason or try to explain it to you. Zilvra, as long as you let me go, I will go back right now, back to the tower."
Zilvra was silent, looking into Lynch's eyes, trying to find any trickery or deceit—if there were any, she might have felt more at ease. But the mage's eyes were as sincere as when he made the promise to Zilvra in the Underdark: "I will definitely get you out, give you a peaceful life," showing only honesty.
In the end, she just sighed, slowly closed her eyes, then opened them again, and softly said, "Which way is our next step?"
"It shouldn't be far now." Lynch smiled, pointing in a direction, "And it seems the serpent has already taken care of all the guards here for us, saving us a lot of trouble."
"But my dear master, since someone got there first, what's the point of us going there?"
"Books written by predecessors are read by countless people, yet I can still gain knowledge." Lynch placed his hand on Zilvra's shoulder, then smiled apologetically, "It seems I'll need you to continue supporting me again."
