Ashen God

Chapter 1011: Lord Monster Desert Giant Worm!

Under the constraints of rank limitations, Zhang Yanhang's attacks could not penetrate the Transmission Channel, nor could his scans go through it. He could only stare helplessly at the other side.

It's fair to say, without the Hundred Taboos, he wouldn't even go near the Transmission Channel in Raccoon City. Rank advancement has its benefits, but also drawbacks. While his strength indeed increased, the rank penalty was unavoidable.

Zhang Yanhang tried knocking on the glass-like smooth surface of the Transmission Channel to capture the monsters' attention, but unfortunately, the monsters on the other side were likely quite intelligent. Seeing their minions die instantly on the opposite side, they showed no intention of charging at him; instead, they kept retreating.

Moreover, besides those large spiders, Zhang Yanhang noticed many small spiders gathered around them without coming out. He thought that was probably the fourth type of monster in this area; generally, an area doesn't have just three types of monsters but at least five to seven or even more.

Because the monsters in the Permanent Teleportation Channel didn't come out, Zhang Yanhang could only wait beside it for a bit. Of course, if he had to wait a long time and they still didn't emerge, Zhang Yanhang would have to give up on clearing this Permanent Teleportation Channel, making it his first failed clearance of a Transmission Channel.

Of course, Zhang Yanhang didn't plan to wait too long, intending to wait only while extracting Soul Power. After all, Permanent Teleportation Channels don't drop treasure boxes, and his intent to clear them all was merely out of habit.

"Previously, I roughly collected ten thousand residents' souls using the Demon Refining Pot, and then four to five hundred from the rebels, which was just barely okay."

Though he had previously stated he didn't want to extract Soul Power using human souls, just hours later, he practiced it. Certainly, as his rank gradually advanced and certain transcendental changes occurred within himself, despite maintaining a humanoid appearance barely, his moral concepts were now far from human standards.

After all, in DND classification, his fifth rank belongs to the stages of a Saint and Demigod, and the mindset of a deity couldn't possibly stay aligned with humans. He thought it was quite good that he, a deity in preparation, didn't massively preach to forcibly seize believers for godhood.

Regarding why he now could only claim to have a humanoid appearance, mainly, he felt that a monster with a height of tens of meters and multiple arms and legs ought not to relate to the term 'human.' Usually, entities of this form would kindly be called 'Demon God' with high-pitched screams showing respect.

So, in some sense, he even felt that the term humanoid might be too flattering for him; he should currently be considered as barely still maintaining a roughly human shape, a description more aligned with his current state.

After attempting to use Alchemy to extract Soul Power from human souls, Zhang Yanhang found these human souls' quality, compared to ghosts, was indeed quite inferior. Roughly ten human souls produced an amount of Soul Power barely comparable to one of the weakest First Tier Ghosts.

Hence, although over ten thousand souls seemed numerous this time, calculated, they equaled only roughly a thousand or so First Tier Ghosts. It was roughly equivalent to his usual hourly workload.

After completing the extraction of Soul Power, Zhang Yanhang promptly refined it into Wise Man's Stone.

Yet, despite refining them, he didn't rush to consume immediately, intending to gather more before consuming collectively, since he might collect even more Soul Power later.

During refining, Zhang Yanhang kept gazing at the Transmission Channel below with Seeking Fortune and Avoiding Evil, but there was no indication of the monsters inside emerging, showing it was indeed impossible to exterminate them.

"I've got to say, even though I'm leaving soon, I still haven't understood what Akrellep means."

Earlier, Zhang Yanhang tried scanning various information here, but got nothing. He assumed it might be similar to foreigners not understanding why a place in Edinburgh would be called 'Puxi.' He quickly came to terms with it, deciding not to dwell on this issue.

Of course, Zhang Yanhang remembered he had a First Tier Spell named Master Language, but unfortunately, communication with the local tribe, the Hausa Tribe's minor language, didn't fall within the spell's scope. Ultimately, it was just a First Tier Spell; putting too much expectation on it was unwise.

If replaced by the high-tier version of another advanced spell, Zhang Yanhang might understand meanings now.

He recalled a spell called Language Proficiency, capable of communicating with any intelligent creatures, understanding their meanings and writings. Indeed, the names were merely reversed, but the spell's efficacy was enormously amplified, allowing normal communication with various rare species, as the spell's principle differed.

And now, with the monster on the opposite side of the Permanent Teleportation Channel not coming out, all Zhang Yanhang could do was collect corpses.

Circling around the Akrellep several times, Zhang Yanhang soon devoured most of the bodies and broken limbs into his Stomach Space, along with the blood and flesh.

And concerning this desert Permanent Teleportation Channel, his first one he could not clear, Zhang Yanhang could only silently sigh and continue advancing towards the direction of the Ayer Mountains in the West.

However, perhaps due to Africa's dense Permanent Teleportation Channels, Zhang Yanhang flew no more than about a hundred kilometers, just two seconds of flight, before encountering a new Permanent Teleportation Channel.

Yet this Transmission Channel likely had long been active, for the city where it was located had been completely destroyed, and the corpses were thoroughly rotten. Zhang Yanhang couldn't possibly glean any useful souls here, at most, he could barely recycle the bodies.

But he thought that collecting corpses should be skipped, after all, in the end, he wasn't that heartless.

Alright, actually it was further because he found it bothersome; human corpses contained pitifully little energy, almost akin to ores and metals. Absorbing such trash would merely waste his enhancement efficiency.

Of course, apart from the bad news of no recycling value, there was good news. Good news was, due to the Transmission Channel being active early, the monsters had long flooded out of the Transmission Channel, even the Lord Monster exposed, showing an urgent need for clearance.

Additionally, a better news was this Transmission Channel was a Second-tier Transmission Channel, belonging to the scope Zhang Yanhang could still access, relieving his concern about these monsters escaping.

Regarding the issue of monsters escaping, he encountered it long ago, or rather, when he first cleared the Permanent Teleportation Channel, he faced a Lord Monster escaping back to the Ashen World through it. After all, monsters aren't stupid, and they're certainly afraid of death.

Moreover, the number of monsters in this Second-tier Teleportation Channel is significantly greater than that of the previous First-tier Desert Permanent Teleportation Channel, with at least over one hundred thousand. Initially, there would have been around ten thousand, which is a normal range.

Before killing these monsters, Zhang Yanhang first observed briefly and discovered that this should also be a group of monsters from a desert region, possibly a high-level version of the previous First-tier Teleportation Channel.

In simpler terms, he believed that this Second-tier Teleportation Channel might have a relationship similar to the small Crimson Iron Ant Nest Dala Gu and the large Crimson Iron Ant Nest Tarano, meaning similar monsters but stronger and more numerous, an upgraded version.

Zhang Yanhang has encountered many such nesting dolls-like progression areas, such as the relationship between Raccoon City and the Umbrella Biochemical Test Field.

Therefore, to some extent, Zhang Yanhang suspects this region in the Ashen World may correspond to an entire large desert region.

Just like small Crimson Iron Ant Nest Dala Gu and large Crimson Iron Ant Nest Tarano are located in a Crimson Iron Ore Vein, this area might also correspond to a giant desert in the Ashen World, with different tier Teleportation Channels corresponding to several adjacent areas where monsters are distributed differently.

As for why Zhang Yanhang thinks so, it is because he saw some very familiar monsters. For example, the spider-type monsters he wanted to kill at the First-tier Teleportation Channel but never had the chance are abundant at the Second-tier Teleportation Channel, albeit slightly smaller. But as everyone knows, mass-produced versions can't match limited editions.

Moreover, facing a Lord Monster, they couldn't simply copy it, only a weakened version of ordinary monsters might appear.

After a quick observation, Zhang Yanhang immediately began to unleash his Death Wave Skill without hesitation. With a circle of invisible waves spreading rapidly around, a dense array of kill notification messages appeared in front of Zhang Yanhang.

[Successfully killed First Tier Three Star Monster 'Desert Poison Dragonfly (Ordinary)' ×1, Soul points +10.]

[Successfully killed First Tier Three Star Monster 'Desert Poison Fly (Ordinary)' ×1, Soul points +11.]

[Successfully killed First Tier Three Star Monster 'Desert Thorny Wolf Spider (Elite)' ×1, Soul points +15.]

......

"Indeed, this big spider is strong. The others are First Tier Three Star ordinary monsters, while it is a First Tier Three Star elite monster..."

Due to the dispersion of monsters from the Teleportation Channel, the monsters were now distributed over a range of several dozen kilometers. Zhang Yanhang was advancing forward continuously, while most of the monsters near him were low-level First Tier ones, with those closer to the back, or rather near the Permanent Teleportation Channel, being distributed with Second-tier or higher monsters.

According to Zhang Yanhang's scanning results, the monsters currently covered an area of about two to three hundred square kilometers, far less manageable than the previous First-tier Permanent Teleportation Channel, which could be solved with a single Death Wave.

Of course, regardless, his Movement Speed is not what it used to be, so he ultimately only took a few seconds to clear out all those First-tier monsters on the outskirts.

According to his scans, this Second-tier Permanent Teleportation Channel probably contains about eighty thousand First-tier monsters and twenty thousand Second-tier monsters, providing him with at least a seven-figure soul points profit, which is quite good, given it was cleared in just a few seconds.

[Successfully killed Second-tier One Star Monster 'Desert Poisonous Wasp (Ordinary)' ×1, Soul points +30.]

[Successfully killed Second-tier Two Star Monster 'Desert Worm (Ordinary)' ×1, Soul points +60.]

[Successfully killed Second-tier Four Star Monster 'Desert Giant Worm (Lord Monster)' ×1, Soul points +2500.]

......

Under Zhang Yanhang's rapid advance, both ordinary monsters and Lord Monsters alike were granted equal death without resistance by the Death Wave.

Of course, it must be mentioned that maybe worm-type monsters have a similar ability to snakes to not die completely, so when the Desert Giant Worm as a Lord Monster died, it struggled slightly, not dying immediately, but attempting to spray a large amount of acid towards Zhang Yanhang's direction before falling silent.

"So it's an acid-type monster? It's been a while since I've encountered acid-spraying monsters, truly nostalgic."

However, according to Zhang Yanhang's observation, these worm-type monsters spewed a viscous, green, snot-like acid suspected to be toxic, completely different from the white, gooey ant acid of the Crimson Iron Ant Nest, which is mainly for dissolving Crimson Iron Ore. Meanwhile, this seems more for dissolving normal carbon-based biological enemies.

So, from a sensory perspective, Zhang Yanhang believes that such snot-like green acid would cause him more mental harm.

Correct, Zhang Yanhang can only make an assessment based on sensory perception, while in terms of actual damage, only the corpses buried under the city ruins could offer an objective evaluation. But since most of them have already been corroded to the point of not even leaving bone fragments, Zhang Yanhang feels that at least this acid should be quite effective against unprotected biological enemies.

After thoroughly clearing all the monsters near this Second-tier Permanent Teleportation Channel, including the Desert Giant Worm as the Lord Monster, Zhang Yanhang found that there were six monsters in total here, one more than the previous First-tier Permanent Teleportation Channel, but still within a normal range.
