Chapter 486: The Poison Dragon is dead

"You should have endured a bit longer!" Lotus had a slight hint of reproach. She understood what Xiao Lin wanted to do. Now that Poison Dragon is dead, there is one less person who can testify against Fatty Wang. "Why didn't you wait until after he finished speaking to act?"

Xiao Lin snorted, walked to Poison Dragon, whose eyes were still wide open in death. "It doesn't matter whether he speaks or not now." He pulled Lotus to sit on the ground. "I'll heal your injuries." He placed a palm on her upper abdomen, slowly guiding the recently scattered energy back to its original position. "Did you fight him before I came?" Lotus nodded, and Xiao Lin said no more.

"How do we handle this?"

"I've already instructed Officer Wu; she should arrive soon to clean up the mess here," Xiao Lin said indifferently.

"What do you plan to do next?"

"Now is not the time to ask about that." Xiao Lin's coldness made Lotus feel a strange sense of distance, just like when they first met. Was he angry?

Wu Shuang led her team down to the basement entrance following the marks left by Xiao Lin. As she waded through the water and saw the scene, she was immediately stunned.

"Dr. Xiao, do you think you're part of the bomb squad?" Wu Shuang looked at the blown-open entrance, knowing this was damaging municipal infrastructure. "Did you really need to cause such a commotion? Aren't you afraid the owner here will charge you for restoring the facilities?"

"No, because I'm the owner here." Wu Shuang also sensed Xiao Lin's indifference and dared not joke with him anymore, instead leading her team inside.

The forensic doctor passed by Xiao Lin, nodded at him politely, and after brushing shoulders closely, Xiao Lin gave a questioning "hmm" and then walked out of the basement with Lotus, leaving the scene to Wu Shuang.

"Weren't we supposed to hand him over to us? How did he end up dead?" Wu Shuang whispered to Xiao Lin after coming out.

"Because he attacked the hostage, I had no choice but to use force." Xiao Lin's so-called self-defense was a man's anger at having his symbolic possession invaded. After exchanging glances, they each returned to their own stances.

"Come back to the station with us to make a statement!" Wu Shuang sought Xiao Lin's opinion, knowing he was in a volatile mood. No wonder; the evidence they had was gone again.

"The results from the last video are out; I need to pick it up. I'll go myself tomorrow. Please make sure to send Lotus home after her statement," Xiao Lin said.

"Oh, all right!"

"What video?" Lotus asked Wu Shuang after Xiao Lin had walked away.

"You don't know? The police station's surveillance footage when Liu Sheng died. He's involved in a hidden murder case, but someone higher up is suppressing it, not allowing it to surface."

Lotus sensibly didn't ask further, knowing that inquiring more wouldn't provide any additional clues. If there were, the matter would have been resolved long ago.

"Poison Dragon is dead?" A girl suddenly barged into their line of sight, trying to push past them.

"Who are you? Please don't intrude into a crime scene." Wu Shuang pulled the girl back before she could enter. "Lin Jiaqi? Why are you here?"

"Jia Qi!" Liang Feng had only gone to the restroom briefly, and when she returned, Lin Jiaqi was nowhere to be found. Anxiously, she hurried down, hoping she could still pull her back in time, not knowing how Brother Xiao handled things.

"Is Poison Dragon really dead?" Lin Jiaqi struggled against Wu Shuang's tight grip, determined to go in and see for herself, with tears in her eyes.

"He's dead!" Wu Shuang felt sorry for this girl. Not only her, but even her parents got dragged into this unnecessary strife and died so miserably. Not just this unarmed little girl; if it happened to anyone else, they probably couldn't bear such a tragic loss of their parents, could they?

"Why let him die? I want to ask him why he did this to my parents. I want to know where my parents' bodies are!" Lin Jiaqi's hysteria moved even those inside investigating the scene.

Lotus stepped forward, hugged Lin Jiaqi, and gently comforted the wounded girl. What was lost would never exceed what was gained, and she wanted to tell her that, but at that moment, she felt there was nothing more suitable than a hug.

"Officer Wu, could I ask where Brother Xiao is?" Liang Feng, holding Lin Jiaqi with one hand, turned to ask Wu Shuang.

"He had something to attend to and left first." Wu Shuang watched inside while cleaning up; when did she become the woman who cleaned up after Xiao Lin? Realizing this situation, she couldn't help but smile wryly.

"Officer Wu, we can leave now." The staff finished dealing with the scene and headed out from where they came in.

"Let's go!" The forensic doctor was the last to exit. He adjusted the bridge of his glasses and paused by them.

"Are you the victim?"

"Uh-huh!"

"You're injured. Do you need treatment?" The forensic doctor keenly noticed multiple injuries on Lotus's body.

"Can a forensic doctor treat injuries too?" Lotus impulsively tried to lighten the sorrowful mood, blinking at the forensic doctor.

"A forensic doctor is also a medical school graduate. You can verify this with Dr. Xiao. The difference is he pulls people from the brink of death, and I deal with the dead."

It was just a joke, and Lotus regretted her talkativeness. She managed a couple of awkward laughs and followed Wu Shuang.

"Liang Feng, hurry up!"

"Okay, coming." Liang Feng pulled Lin Jiaqi. "You're not alone; you have all of us sisters from Fei Feng Gang. They're all worried about you."

"Where can I go?"

There was a faint sadness in Lin Jiaqi's hollow eyes. Her parents hadn't given her many good memories, but at least she had a home where she could see their hardworking backs, didn't she?

"Silly girl, of course, you'll be with me. My room is counting on you to clean it every day." Liang Feng ruffled Lin Jiaqi's hair. "Brother Xiao has never lied; since he said he would take good care of you, he definitely will."

"Feng! Are we right to go down this path?" Lin Jiaqi didn't know the difference between their newly formed Fei Feng Gang and Poison Dragon, and she didn't want to stay in this place. The thought that this was once Poison Dragon's headquarters made her feel suffocatingly painful.

"I don't know if it's right, but I want to help Brother Xiao, and that's my purpose." Liang Feng proudly placed her hands behind her head, walking boldly. "Where there's white, there's black. Brother Xiao is white, so I'll be black."

Lin Jiaqi didn't understand Liang Feng's words, but her confidence was contagious, and she wiped away her tears. The dead won't come back, but she still had Liang Feng. (To be continued.
