Chu Fangxiu was always like this. When Fatty Wang received the message, he was almost in a rage. Just after receiving the quality inspection report that showed excessive mercury levels, he heard the news of Chu Fangxiu's disappearance. He frowned tightly, staring silently out the window.
A knock on the door disturbed his thoughts, and his secretary entered from outside. "President Wang, the lawyer from 'Rhein' is here."
"Take them to the small conference room." Fatty Wang placed the contents of the fax in the shredder, turning them into pieces.
Owen sat at a table for six, his briefcase placed on a chair beside him, with his purpose for coming evident on the table. The coffee brought in by the secretary didn't interest him. Today, he was just here to deliver something, so the simpler, the better.
"Lawyer Ou from 'Rhein'? I've heard much about you, one of the top ten chief lawyers in Yanjing." Fatty Wang, smoking a cigarette, walked in from outside, and the secretary closed the door from outside.
"Chairman Wang, hello!" Owen politely stood up and extended his hand. Fatty Wang took his seat at the head of the six-person table, ignoring the handshake, to which Owen just smiled at his arrogance. "Today, I represent 'Rhein' to deliver a revised draft to your company."
"About what?"
"I believe Chairman Wang has heard about the mercury and zinc levels in 'inone's components exceeding international standards. To ensure product quality, we at 'Rhein' will be submitting a contract termination notice to your company."
"I've already explained this matter carefully in my previous reply."
"Yes, we received the reply. You mentioned compensation, right? Our company has an additional contract. Your company didn't accurately report product quality to us. So, according to the contract, your company will pay ten times the compensation limit." Owen pushed the prepared draft and the quality inspection report issued by 315 towards Fatty Wang. "My personal advice, withdrawing from 'Rhein' is the safest course."
After Owen left, Fatty Wang tore up the draft in anger, a hint of malice flashing in his eyes.
Chu Fangxiu was very surprised to find himself moved from his home to a warehouse after waking up. He got up from the floor in fear. "Is anyone there?" he called out softly a few times and found no one outside. He tried to pull the door handle; strangely, the door wasn't locked.
He quietly walked out the door, but as soon as he stepped out, a loud alarm blared, frightening him into retreating.
Zilin kicked, gesturing towards Zimu. "That person is awake."
"Hmm, let him be." Zimu nonchalantly replied. As long as the alarm doesn't keep going off, it's fine. It's a temperature control setting he spent half a day working on.
"Enough playing around, Young Master Xiao will be here soon." Zilin dodged Zimu's attack and fell onto the sofa bed. Business had been a bit slow recently, just hearing a few cars waiting to be repainted at the front. This kind of small job was usually left to the staff, so he was a bit bored.
"Who is that person who wants us to bring him back? Doesn't look like a bad guy." Zilin wasn't in the mood to play, and Zimu's mood dropped too. As twins, their bond seemed deeper than that of ordinary twins.
"Have you ever seen a bad guy write 'bad guy' on their face?" Zilin rolled his eyes at his brother. Just because he came out first, he has to be the older brother forever; it was frustrating.
"Why don't we go ask?" Zimu suddenly thought. Zilin nodded; both were really bored. It seemed Chu Fangxiu was unlucky to encounter two little devils.
The warehouse door was open, and an undeterred Chu Fangxiu tried stepping out again, triggering the loud alarm again. He sat cross-legged by the door, meticulously examining the wonders of this door. Whether he lacked brain cells or crisis awareness, he had no concept of being kidnapped. Thus, when Zimu appeared at the warehouse door, Chu Fangxiu was still looking for mechanisms.
"Do you think there's something wrong with this person's brain?"
"I think he's short a few screws." Zilin nodded. Why did the boss ask them to catch a lunatic? He was eager to know the answer. "Hey!" he kicked the half-squatting Chu Fangxiu, looking down at the man.
"Don't kill him, the boss will freak out." Zimu pulled Zilin, who didn't know how to hold back. This person seemed like the type to not get beaten easily.
"I'm asking you, do you know why you were caught?"
"Why did you catch me?" Chu Fangxiu replied, raising an eyebrow. He looked weak, but his words were aggressive. "My family has no money. If you're looking to kidnap, find someone rich."
"We don't want money!" Being mistaken for kidnappers was annoying Zilin, realizing his idea was foolish. Talking to an idiot would turn him into an idiot too.
"Forget it, we might as well go back." Zilin, having deciphered Zimu's thoughts, took Zimu's hand and vanished from Chu Fangxiu's sight.
"Wait a minute, I really am a poor person, you won't get any money by catching me." The barely present person ran off again, and Chu Fangxiu shouted after them, but the two paid no attention to his cries.
Xiao Lin, who had been observing discreetly from the shadows, noted Chu Fangxiu's actions. His seemingly foolish appearance was merely a façade to hide his panic. Losing interest in further exploration, Xiao Lin slipped past Chu Fangxiu, deciding to let things cool for a few days and address it later.
"Young Master Xiao!" As Zilin and Zimu stepped into the room, they saw Xiao Lin sitting upright. After exchanging a strange glance, they stood opposite Xiao Lin like children who had done something wrong.
"You'll have to work hard these next few days. There might be some visitors dropping by; no need to kill, just teach them a lesson. As long as Chu Fangxiu stays in that room, leave him be." Based on the timing, Lawyer Ou should have arrived at Fatty Wang's place by now – that kind of draft basically had no effect. Xia Yuxuan was completely prepared from the start, and now it's merely a scare tactic. With Fatty Wang's shrewdness, he'll see through it soon. Xia Yusheng's goal differed from his; this was a direction Xiao Lin had noticed these days. Xia Yusheng, still wanting to protect Xia Yuxuan, hesitated because of familial ties, a hesitation understandable since familial bonds are difficult to sever, and as long as things aren't too extreme, they can be forgiven.
"We'll complete the task." Zilin playfully saluted, then punched Xiao Lin's left shoulder. "Play with me for a bit!" Zilin clung to Xiao Lin, while Zimu was much more composed, giving his brother a smack on the back of the head.
"Young Master Xiao has many things to do."
"Alright then!" Rubbing his numbed head, Zilin pouted.
"Check the car for me, the gear box seems to be making a strange noise."
"Alright!"
The car was backed into the car hook, and Zilin slid into it. Standing in the sunlight, the warmth of early spring felt comfortable on Xiao Lin's body as cigarette smoke drifted away in the breeze.
"Today's business is pretty average, huh?"
"Not bad, just fewer people today. The car next to us was brought in for a repaint this morning, still like new, which is a bit of a waste."
Xiao Lin's gaze fell on a three-pointed star car nearby. A new car, its chassis dented. Replacing the whole thing for that seemed extravagant. "Where's the owner?"
"In the design room, picking colors." Zilin busily worked on QQ's chassis, glancing over at the car. "Zimu, there's no one in the design room!"
Hearing this, Xiao Lin dropped his cigarette butt and ran to the backyard.
Chu Fangxiu no longer wanted to hear that damned alarm. He sat on the ground, head in hands, reassuring himself that someone would come eventually. Indeed, he did not wait long before a figure appeared at the door.
"Can I leave now?" Chu Fangxiu asked the person at the door. It wasn't one of the two boys from before – what was this place, after all!
The person at the door raised a hand, a flash, and a hidden weapon was already aimed at Chu Fangxiu's vital point. "Dear God!" Chu Fangxiu shouted, realizing this person was here to kill him. He wanted to evade, but the space was hardly enough, with everything in plain view. Where could he hide? "Don't kill me!"
The first hidden weapon fell to the ground, missed by Chu Fangxiu, but he wasn't so lucky with the second, which struck his leg, rendering him unable to run. As the third one came towards his head, Chu Fangxiu closed his eyes, preparing for death. Suddenly, a blur passed before him, followed by the sound of combat. Opening his eyes, he saw a person dressed in black kick the attacker in the stomach, then punch them in the head. The attacker retreated a few steps before disappearing, unwilling to prolong the fight.
"If you don't want to die, stay inside obediently." Xiao Lin chased after them.
Terrified, Chu Fangxiu shed his previous foolish demeanor, now replaced by indecision. Someone was genuinely trying to kill him – wasn't this the time to figure out how to save his life? If he saved himself, who would protect his family's lives?
"What failed?" Fatty Wang threw the phone after hearing the report.
"Calm your mind; the other side hopes to agitate you. That's the only way they can seize the opportunity." The old man, who had been standing by, finally spoke after Fatty Wang threw the phone, stopping him from rash actions.
"Chu Fangxiu is in his hands; do you know what that means?" Fatty Wang sat in his chair, taking deep breaths. The removal of Liu Sheng wasn't surprising to him, just a move of equivalent exchange. Instinctively, he didn't want any dealings with that person, but without him, by his own means, it was difficult to deal with Xiao Lin, making it hard for him to decide.
"Chu Fangxiu's testimony can only prove you engaged in bribery. Does this charge have a direct impact on your Wang Family?" The sharp-eyed elder's gaze held a penetrating insight. "Now you're being led by the nose by Xiao Lin; why not make a move against the Xia Family?" (To be continued.
