"What um… What do you need my help with?" Levia timidly asked.
She found that being confident and forward was much easier with the other girls around. Now one-on-one, it was actually much tougher not to crumble and fold.
"You'll see," Amon answered plainly as he continued walking.
"The outer altar?" The path they were following made it obvious. "What happened to…?"
Her words trailed off as she noticed the fallen rubble and hole in the ground right in front of the outer altar.
"I see," Levia muttered.
She knelt near the jagged hole, brushing her fingers over the fractured stone. The altar's once-glowing veins of mana were now cold and colorless, their pulse extinguished.
Amon stood beside her in silence.
The faint light from above cast long shadows containing the Blood Moon Reaper's Arm.
"Ha! You drained this place completely," Levia said with a chuckle, her cheeks reddening. "It was tough to pull a lot of Mana at a time, but it felt like an endless well. I thought that well had been filled by generations upon generations of Humans pouring their Mana and darkness into it but… You've drained it completely, at once."
Amon crouched, staring at the altar's remains. "It wasn't intentional. Well, not completely, I guess. It called out to me."
"It did?!" Levia shouted with an excited voice, turning towards him at once. He nodded.
"That's… Incredible! You're incredible!!"
Amon nodded again. "Thanks."
"So what was it? What was it you found?"
"That's what I want to find out."
"And why you need my help, huh?" Levia smiled brightly. "Happy to help!"
The sound of footsteps echoed behind them.
"What's that?" Akane asked, walking up with usual careless strides. "Pretty sure it didn't look this way yesterday."
"Right." Amon nodded.
Akane studied the area for a bit. "Looks like the ground fell in."
"An astute observation." Levia sighed, pissed off that her alone time with Amon was cut short.
The Fox stepped closer.
Sniff- Sniff-
She frowned faintly.
"What is it?" Amon asked.
"Smells like… That thing, vaguely." Akane muttered. "More like that dark liquid it uses. I'm not sure."
Sniff- Sniff-
"Reminds me of the things that the Succubus sent to attack us."
"They're called Golems! And I already apologized for that!"
It didn't take long for Rita and Syl to approach them.
'Hm.'
While Amon had gotten some good information out of the System, he thought there might be some more things to uncover with Levia's knowledge, Akane's senses, and Syl's brain.
'Plus, I want to share some information. It would be easier to veer them towards it rather than tell them outright, since I got the info from the System…'
Syl peered over the edge. "Should we jump down?"
"I can't land properly with my hands cuffed behind my back." Rita sighed.
Akane took a deep breath, before jumping down the hole first.
She landed with ease and looked around.
Sniff- Sniff-
Her nose led her directly to where the Blood Moon Reaper's Arm lay previously.
"Tsk," Levia clicked her tongue, landing a moment later. "It's my help he asked for, remember?"
"The more the merrier, no?" Akane said without looking away.
Amon stepped closer to Syl and Rita.
"Can you make it down?" He asked the female Hobgoblin.
"Sure," A blushing Syl answered while tucking a lock of hair back behind her ear.
"What about meeee?" Rita complained. "Without these cuffs, I could jump and land without…"
The Succubus' words trailed off as Amon's hands landed on her back and thighs.
One moment, her feet were on the ground. The next, she was swept off her feet.
Syl pursed her lips and jumped down.
Amon followed shortly after, holding Rita in his arms in a princess carry.
"My knight in shining armor," She whispered, staring into his eyes.
He smiled and lowered one arm, allowing her to easily stand up.
"What's that about?" Akane asked with a raised eyebrow.
Syl was doing her best to ignore it.
"So it's true," Levia muttered, her hand resting on the obsidian pedestal where the Blood Moon Reaper's Arm used to be. "The Humans really do have Jarath's weapons."
"You've heard of it." Amon stepped closer.
"The Humans claim to have all kinds of Artefacts, Demonic and not. To be more precise, the Holy Church has them." Levia explained. "They're said to be sealed in various churches around the world. No one knows which church holds what. It's fairly easy to guess that most churches do not hold anything of value."
"Black Churches are nothing more than churches that have been corrupted by Demonic Mana, Corruption itself, or a hundred other possible causes." Rita continued. "Holding sealed artefacts with such power will corrupt even those supposed to make sure said artefacts never see the light of day. The Humans will start to worship the artefact, and the Demon it is associated with."
"Many churches become corrupted despite not holding powerful sealed artefacts, so it's tough to know which is worth looking into." Levia added, turning towards Amon. "How did you find this? How did I not sense it after so long? I thought the altars had grown corrupt and powerful. To think that beneath them-"
"Don't beat yourself over it." Akane sighed with a shrug. "We're pretty special, you know? The three of us."
Amon remained silent, while Syl scratched her arm awkwardly.
'I'm guessing she means me,' The female Hobgoblin thought. 'But I don't see how I'm special at all…'
Levia and Rita ignored that.
The two Demonesses walked in opposite directions, exploring the underground chamber.
Levia trailed her fingers along the wall. "These symbols… They're familiar."
Akane glanced at her. "From where?"
"I've seen them in grimoires and scrolls," Levia said quietly. "I can't decipher them, though."
"That's it," Rita's voice immediately caught everyone's attention. "I think these four symbolize Jarath's weapons."
Levia, Syl, Akane, and Amon all walked closer to stand right behind Rita.
"That's Jarath's Dagger." Rita pointed.
"Jarath's Horn," Levia added.
"Horn?" Amon raised an eyebrow.
"Yes," Levia nodded. "That's how it's called, though no one knows what it really is."
"That symbol looks like it could be a Scythe." Syl pointed.
They directed their gazes towards the last of the four symbols and,
"The Blood Moon," Akane muttered with wide, confused eyes. "Jarath's Ring."
The Fox had no idea how or why she knew that. She simply knew.
