Vorlic's only response to his master's command was a deep growl that echoed like thunder.
There was no question asked, and the Undead General prepared itself for battle.
Meanwhile, the clone extended his hand as a cold wind suddenly breezed past like it had been summoned.
The cold gust spread through the battlefield as he conjured a massive wall of ice, towering high enough to shield the players behind him.
The first wave of arrows hit, striking the giant wall of ice with brute force.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
The projectiles slammed into the frozen barrier, embedding deep into its surface. Cracks spiderwebbed across the wall, but it held firm.
The players behind the ice wall gaped in awe.
"He blocked them!"
"He actually blocked them!"
"We're… saved?"
"Thank goodness."
"Please, last a little bit longer," a player prayed.
Relief washed over their terrified faces. For the first time since the battle began, they dared to hope.
"Thank heaven…" one player whispered. "We're saved because of him."
While the players caught their breath, Axton and Vorlic were already upon the main enemy — the Undead Archer.
Vorlic moved with frightening speed for his size. His first attack came in the form of a colossal punch aimed directly at the Undead Archer's chest. The Undead General went for a one-hit kill.
She raised her bow in defense, but it was like trying to block a falling mountain.
Boom!
The impact rang out, sending shockwaves through the battlefield.
Dust and debris exploded outward as the Undead Archer was sent flying backward, her feet skidding across the cracked earth.
Vorlic didn't wait.
He immediately raised his arm to the side, dark energy swirling around him.
[Dark Sword]
A massive black blade formed in his hand, its edge humming with deathly power which he was more than prepared to use.
The Archer hissed, sensing danger.
Her skeletal fingers pulled at her bowstring, channeling dense shadows into a single point.
The arrow she formed was pure death energy, one that was enough to obliterate a building in one hit.
She aimed for Vorlic's chest and released.
Fweeeep!
The dark projectile streaked forward like a meteor. But Vorlic didn't dodge. Instead, he grinned — a horrifying expression for something without flesh.
He swung his Dark Sword.
The slash cut the air itself, releasing a wave of condensed black energy that clashed with the Archer's arrow midair.
The explosion was deafening.
Axton shielded his eyes from the blast as a wave of heat and darkness rolled past.
When the smoke cleared, Vorlic still stood.
The Undead Archer, however, was not so lucky.
The energy from Vorlic's strike hadn't stopped after clashing with the arrow — it had continued, slicing cleanly through her body.
For a moment, she stood frozen, bow still in hand.
Then her body split apart, her upper and lower halves falling in opposite directions.
Silence.
Then,..
Ding!
[Congratulations!]
[You have defeated the Undead Archer — Lamia.]
[10,000x critical hit applied to your rewards.]
The battlefield fell quiet, save for the sound of notifications echoing in everyone's ears.
Axton exhaled slowly.
Vorlic's form began to fade into dark smoke, his task complete.
'So her name was Lamia…' Axton thought. 'She was strong but not strong enough.'
A cascade of messages filled his vision. EXPs, coins, mythical points, reputation points, and more. The rewards were far beyond anything he had seen in the game so far.
Across New Eden, players were getting the same message.
[World Event Completed!]
[The leader of the Realm of Shadows, Lamia, has been defeated.]
[The city of Anarnia has been liberated from the invading undead.]
Cheers erupted from the players nearby.
"Did we… just win?"
"It's over! The undead are gone!"
"I got 2,000 experience points! Holy crap!"
Notifications filled global chat.
Guilds bragged about their contributions, others argued about point distribution.
[Global Chat]
[Sword_SaintX: GG everyone! The Parliament carried hard this time.]
[ArashiKage: Don't flatter yourself. My shadows saved your entire team.]
[NovaHeart: Calm down. We all know who the usual star of this sort of event is.]
Even in the chaos, the atmosphere was lighthearted — joyful.
Axton stood apart from the crowd, watching the city of Anarnia in the distance. The once darkened skies were now slowly clearing. The crimson clouds also gradually faded to gold as rays of light started to break through.
The city's damaged walls stood tall again, cleansed of corruption. The lingering mists of undeath dissolved into harmless motes of light that drifted into the sky.
'So the undead were invaders,' Axton mused quietly.
'Their hatred for humans… it wasn't random. They were trying to take this city for themselves but then something must have happened that stopped them.'
He crossed his arms, thoughtful.
For now, though, he allowed himself a moment of rest.
Around him, players were laughing, crying, and showing off loot drops. Some danced, others spammed emotes, while a few sat down, exhausted but content.
Axton glanced at his clone, who had now dissipated after the spell ended. The cracked wall of ice melted away, water running down into the soil.
He smiled faintly. "Not bad."
Another system prompt appeared.
[Congratulations!]
[The World Event of the City of Anarnia is now over]
[You have received a 100% contribution score for your efforts towards achieving this goal]
[Rewards will be received shortly]
'Whatever I'm going to get better be real good,' Axton thought, hopeful.
A soft breeze passed through the battlefield. The sun was setting, and with it came a sense of calm. The war-torn plains outside Anarnia were now littered with remnants of battle — broken weapons, fading spell marks, and faint traces of ash.
Yet amid all that destruction, there was victory.
He turned to leave, his cloak fluttering behind him.
"Guess that's one less problem for humanity," he muttered.
Behind him, the other players began to chant his name.
"Khan! Khan! Khan!"
He didn't turn around.
He simply raised one hand in acknowledgment before walking toward the gates of the liberated city.
