[The Dragon Exlor has awakened.]
Dorian paused for a while, observing the dragon as it stood up on its feet, towering over him.
Unlike before, the dragon was now surging with energy, high enough for Dorian to take notice of it without having to try.
'It actually worked. I thought I'd run out of mana or something, but I am still left with a small amount, even though it can barely last me.' He smiled softly.
'Never seen Revina look that happy; she must really care for this drag-'
Bang!
[Earth Shield has been activated.]
Dorian's face immediately turned serious when he noticed the dragon had tried to attack him with its claws, sending a powerful gust of wind through the entire place.
Luckily for Dorian, his skill had activated in time, absorbing the entire damage before it could kill him.
Exlor stared at Dorian, moving its paw down and resting it on the ground.
"Exlor!" Revina yelled, her earlier excitement turning into confusion.
She tried to take a step forward, only to get pushed back by the rush of aura the dragon had begun releasing.
"To think I would actually come face to face with you once again, Dragon Monarch, you who abandons!" The dragon tried to launch another attack, this time using its massively sharp teeth as the primary weapon.
However, things didn't go according to plan for the dragon, as Dorian suddenly smacked it on the side of the face.
The impact sent a boom wave around before sending the dragon falling to the side.
The dragon immediately stood to its feet, shaking its head multiple times to ward off the jolt of pain brewing at the side of its face.
'The hell did it just attack me for?' Dorian whispered in his mind as he glanced at the dragon.
What's more, he could already feel Maria closing the distance; she must have sensed he was getting attacked. Knowing her, it wouldn't take long for her to appear.
Still… Dorian noticed Revina had gotten close to Exlor, already positioning herself in front of him.
"Exlor, what's wrong? This man is no threat; he was the one who saved you," she tried to convince the dragon.
Exlor glanced at her, then back at Dorian.
"Mistress, as much as our reunion is truly something I want to bask in, right now, my rage is far too severe to ignore when the source of my anger is standing right in front of me."
"What are you talking about? Have you… met Dorian somewhere before?" asked Revina, her head tilted to the side, perplexed.
Dorian remained there, pointing at himself with a "Me?" look on his face.
Exlor spoke. "The Dragon Monarch, a being feared by all races, small and big alike. A being so powerful that he tamed us, the dragons, for hundreds of years, and we followed because he was a man truly worthy of being served, a man we all adored enough to consider the God of Dragons." Exlor's eyes now carried a bit of intensity as he took a step to the side.
"He was dangerous and feared because, from the very bottom of his heart, he truly believed himself to be the strongest. He truly believed no one could reach the heights he soared, not even the gods who feared him. And yet, with all that power and influence, why did you subjugate yourself to that woman!"
Dorian's gaze hardened. It couldn't be who he was thinking, but one person came to mind as soon as the dragon mentioned a woman.
The dragon was not the first person to say this; Tai Hun said the same thing.
He paused. "You speak with so much hatred. It would have made more sense If I knew any of that, but I don't."
The dragon grunted, his voice causing the place to vibrate a bit. "You promised us victory against the gods! You promised to make us the ultimate race! You betrayed us dragons, had us perish and eradicated by the enemies we swore to fight! All because of a woman! Fight me, Dragon Monarch! I shall not know peace till I have my flames licking against your flesh!"
Dorian didn't say a word for a while.
The fact Revina was staring at him with her back faced proved even she was waiting to hear what he had to say.
Ever since she was a child, the Dragon Monarch had always been someone who ruled against the dragons and controlled the ultimate aura.
Nothing more.
As such, everything she heard from Exlor in that very moment, she was hearing it for the first time. While she was shocked to find out Dorian was indeed the Dragon Monarch, it was even more of a shock that her dragon, Exlor, hated him.
Sigh.
Dorian let out a sigh, one hand scratching the back of his head with the other resting on his hip.
"Honestly, this is getting really exhausting. I'm just a dude, man. All these stories don't add up. I am 20 years old at best; you dragons have existed since the beginning of time. See how it doesn't make any sense?"
"Liar! Your words no longer sway me! You no longer have my loyalty or trust! If anything, all you get from me is this deep hatred I carried for years!"
"Is that so… ah, hold on…" Dorian pointed at Revina. "Just so we are clear, the contract still stands. I revived your dragon as you asked. But something tells me you are not going to defend me here."
"And you'd be right." Revina faced him. "Exlor is my dragon, and I don't know him to be a liar. "
"Everyone is so ungrateful these days. So now what? You want to fight me even after I gave you life?"
"When I kill you, I will return back to what I was. Killing you comes first," Exlor spoke. "You have the power to make me bow, so I know you as well want to fight me as well."
'No, it's more like this is a good opportunity to further cement the power dynamic I have been building since I arrived here. But still, the dragon, I can fight; my title that boosts all my stats when fighting a dragon will serve me. But Revina is not a dragon. I am too exhausted to think I would win against her.'
Dorian once again sighed. "Alright then. Just so we are clear, I don't intend on killing you. I'll make you submit."
"Even after all these years, that pride of yours hasn't changed one bit!" Exlor suddenly opened its mouth, a huge rush of flames pouring right towards Dorian.
At the same time, Revina stretched her hand to the side, summoning her blade, "Gorgoin"—a white, shining blade with a hilt truly worthy of royalty.
Just as the flames were about to touch Dorian, he leaped up, his dragon wings shooting out of his back as he broke through the ceiling, rocks falling right on top of the flames.
Revina looked up at the sky, a deadpanned look on her face. She could not believe he just flew up like that.
Then again, was there truly ever a time Dorian was not surprising her? Without any hesitation, Revina leaped up the hole as well, moving fast with the dragon following right behind her, breaking the ceiling even more.
In less than a few seconds, she had already arrived outside the mansion. Soldiers gathered outside, wondering why people were suddenly in the sky. However, the moment she saw the sun, there was also a kick aimed right at her side.
Her reaction time was too slow for her to dodge it, so instead, she tanked the attack, allowing the force to send her falling and crashing far away from the mansion.
But while she was in mid-air, she managed to see the face of the person who kicked her, and to her surprise, it was Maria, who could be seen already chasing her.
It was then Revina realized Dorian had led them both into a trap.
Dorian, on the other hand, was perched on a single pole, his thumb cleaning the little blood at the side of his lips as he watched the dragon hover in front of him.
'I am using too much mana. I need to find a way to refill. Seraphina is busy right now, and I don't intend to disturb her for something like this.'
"Grrrr! Separating me from my mistress because you know her mana can fuel my strength! Since when does the great Monarch use such underhanded tactics!" The dragon launched itself forward, but just when it was about to crash right into Dorian, it found itself halted in a single place.
Dorian had pressed one hand on the dragon's head, stopping the charge from causing any damage. Then, using his finger, he flicked the dragon's head, sending it flying back.
Exlor grunted in anger before letting out a powerful roar.
'Looks like it's planning to go all out. Sigh, I feel too exhausted to battle right now. Looks like I have no choice.'
"Come, Ciel."
