Chapter 223: We Want Robot Dogs Too

"My friend, welcome back to Moscow." Outside the airport, Gena opened his arms to welcome Chen Yiyang.

The two eagerly sat chatting in the same car, and then Chen Yiyang went directly to Gena's house without first stopping at the hotel.

After they ate and drank to their fill, Gena even called over a few model girls to join them.

"Let's talk business first." Chen Yiyang was worried that after a few drinks, he'd end up tied to the bed by the model girls and wouldn't be able to get up for three or four days.

"In general, the military isn't very interested in the mechanical dogs."

"Why?" Chen Yiyang asked curiously.

"They're too expensive. At ten thousand dollars each, and requiring modifications, the cost is high. For that amount of money, the poor states could recruit soldiers to do the work. The Russian military currently needs a large number of drones, because humans can't replace drones, but they can replace mechanical dogs," Gena replied to Chen Yiyang's question.

Chen Yiyang didn't expect the reason for the failed deal was this.

The mechanical dog actually turned out to be more expensive than human lives.

But when he thought about it, it made sense.

The mechanical dogs currently have limited combat effectiveness. Their main role is to replace soldiers in dangerous areas to endure the risks.

But on the Russia-Ukraine battlefield, this role is limited because, as the war continues, manpower hasn't been exhausted yet, though equipment is quite lacking.

Europe gave Ukraine mechanical dogs to balance accounts.

Russia, using every penny carefully, wouldn't need mechanical dogs.

Since that's the case, might as well enjoy oneself.

Chen Yiyang looked at the two models beside him and fell straight asleep.

Then, in the morning.

He was pulled out from the embrace of the two model girls by Gena.

"What's going on?" Chen Yiyang rubbed his sleepy eyes.

"Some of my friends are here, and they want to continue discussing the mechanical dogs with you," Gena answered.

"Huh?" Chen Yiyang felt a little baffled.

Yesterday, wasn't Gena confidently saying that the Russian military didn't need mechanical dogs?

And Chen Yiyang agreed, thinking that drones were much more important than mechanical dogs for both Russia and Ukraine.

"I don't know either, but let's talk to them first," Gena shrugged.

So Chen Yiyang got dressed and went to the reception room with Gena.

"Haha, looks like our friend was well taken care of."

When Chen Yiyang appeared in the reception room disheveled, the group of middle-aged Russian men in there burst out laughing.

"I spent the night learning Russian, made a fool of myself," Chen Yiyang joked with a local reference.

The people present immediately understood, and the laughter grew louder.

But as everyone settled down, their smiles faded.

It was time to talk business.

"Yesterday, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense released a video claiming they received mechanical dogs from Europe, intending to use them on the battlefield."

A bald man talked while showing Chen Yiyang the video.

Chen Yiyang immediately recognized the mechanical dogs in the video as the modified ones from Yushu Technology.

It seemed that once the Europeans were sure they could get more mechanical dogs, they immediately sent the ones they bought earlier to Ukraine to create news, paving the way for future military aid of mechanical dogs.

"That's indeed the product of the company I invested in, and it's the latest model. I came to pitch this mechanical dog to you guys before."

"You sold those mechanical dogs to Europe too?" The bald man frowned.

"That's the latest civilian version. We sell this product in many countries' markets. It's normal for them to be able to buy it."

Of course, Chen Yiyang wouldn't say his own company had just signed a big order with Europe.

Anyway, the order was exported under the guise of civilian products, so the Russians shouldn't find out.

Besides, what they're selling are indeed civilian products, nothing to be guilty about.

"For the current Russian military, mechanical dogs are indeed not as practical as drones. But in terms of public opinion, the Russian military needs to show equivalent weapons to prove they aren't inferior in equipment to the other side."

The bald man was blunt.

Mechanical dogs are not as useful as drones.

Given limited funds, buying mechanical dogs is not as good as buying drones.

However, now the other side has rolled out mechanical dogs for battlefield use, and the public doesn't care about the details.

In case of a poorly fought battle, political opponents could easily attack the military, claiming it's because the Russian military lacked mechanical dogs that they lost.

So, that's why the bald man was eager for Gena to drag Chen Yiyang out of bed.

"We can sell mechanical dogs to Russia at a discounted price. A little modification will convince the public that Russia has mechanical dogs too."

Chen Yiyang thought, while Russia doesn't plan to use mechanical dogs extensively, they'll still buy a good number to save face.

This could open up a market. In the future, with further upgrades, mechanical dogs might have the same status as drones on the battlefield.

"But how do we explain to the public that our Russian-made mechanical dogs are identical to the Europeans'?"

The bald man emphasized "Russian-made."

Understandable.

The other side claims their mechanical dogs are produced in-house.

Then the Russians have to show their own domestic mechanical dogs.

So there's a question.

After Russia releases the news, people will see that their mechanical dogs look the same as those on the other side.

The public may be naive, but they aren't foolish; they'll definitely notice something's off.

"Let me think." Chen Yiyang suddenly realized that Yushu Technology had an older model of civilian mechanical dog.

Even though the old model's performance was slightly inferior to the latest generation.

But the Russians primarily wanted them for display, not actual battlefield use.

So if the performance was slightly lacking, so be it.

Chen Yiyang immediately informed them about this option.

"Can you deliver this model of mechanical dog for us to take a look at in the next few days?" the bald man asked.

"No problem." Chen Yiyang promptly called Wang Xingxing and asked him to airlift a few units of the first generation mechanical dogs that were backlogged in stock to Russia.

After sending off the bald man, Chen Yiyang was no longer sleepy.

He simply went to his luggage and took out the "Butterfly Diamond Necklace" once used by Catherine the Great, which he had picked up cheaply before.

"Take a look at this."

"What's this? It looks like jewelry from the Tsarist period," Gena said, having a slight understanding of such items.

But he could still tell the style of this accessory was from the Tsarist period.

"A necklace once worn by Catherine the Great," Chen Yiyang said bluntly.

"You're joking with me," Gena assumed Chen Yiyang was joking with him.

But seeing Chen Yiyang's serious expression, he wasn't joking, so he called in a few jewelry appraisal experts.
