Wu Dahu, who had braced himself for a beating, wore an expression of disbelief upon hearing Yuan Wenkang's words.

Am I dreaming?

He had expected a harsh scolding for his incompetence at the very least. Instead, he was being praised. It was truly unbelievable.

Sixth Master, standing to the side, also let out a long sigh of relief. If Wu Dahu were punished today, he wouldn't have escaped either. Thank goodness. Things didn't take the worst possible turn.

Just then, Yuan Wenkang spoke again. "Enough with the small talk. Let's get down to business."

"Have you two thought about how to deal with Liu Ergou?" Yuan Wenkang asked, fixing them with a grim gaze.

Under Yuan Wenkang's stare, Sixth Master and Wu Dahu barely dared to breathe.

Neither of them had any good ideas when it came to dealing with Liu Ergou.

Since even the police had failed to handle Liu Ergou, Wu Dahu and Sixth Master could hardly imagine what else could possibly work against him.

After pondering for a long while, Wu Dahu finally spoke up with a troubled expression. "Young Master Yuan, Liu Ergou is really not easy to deal with!"

"As it stands, I really can't think of anything," Wu Dahu finished with a helpless sigh.

"Hmph, useless!" Sixth Master snorted coldly at Wu Dahu's defeated posture. "So that's it? You've run out of ideas? And here I thought you were so capable. Turns out that's all you've got!"

At Sixth Master's words, Wu Dahu didn't argue. He just scratched his head, smiled sheepishly, and lowered his gaze in embarrassment.

Then, as Sixth Master mulled it over, an idea suddenly struck him.

"Young Master Yuan!" he exclaimed. "I have a good idea, but I'm not sure if it will work!"

"If you have something to say, then spit it out!" Yuan Wenkang said expressionlessly.

Hearing this, Sixth Master didn't hesitate and immediately blurted out his idea.

"Here's the thing, Young Master Yuan. Since we can't get to Liu Ergou, why don't we target the people around him? They'll most likely blame him for whatever happens. What do you think of that plan?"

However, Yuan Wenkang's expression remained unchanged after hearing Sixth Master's idea.

"Little Six, if you can think of that, I've naturally considered it as well."

"Use your head. Of all the people around Liu Ergou, how many can we actually afford to provoke?"

"Anything would be easy if we were in Jingdu, but in a backwater place like this, my influence has its limits. Let's not even talk about Zhang Xiuming. He's a local powerhouse. How could I possibly touch him? I have to rely on Mi Xiaoying for everything I do here. Without her, nothing would get done!"

"So, your idea won't work. Think of something else!"

At his words, the room fell silent.

After a long moment, Wu Dahu suddenly spoke up. "Young Master Yuan, I just remembered something. A college student village official came to our village not long ago, and he has a good relationship with Liu Ergou!"

"If all else fails, we can go after that student. What trouble can a recent graduate possibly cause? When the time comes, won't he just have to swallow the bitter pill and suffer in silence?"

Wu Dahu's words immediately piqued Yuan Wenkang's interest.

As commanded, Wu Dahu recounted everything he knew about Liu Yunxi to Yuan Wenkang.

Yuan Wenkang lowered his head, sinking into deep thought. He pondered for quite some time.

Finally, Yuan Wenkang raised his head, a smile on his face. "Excellent, Wu Dahu. You've rendered a great service! How could I have forgotten about this person? If you hadn't brought it up, I doubt I would have ever remembered!"

With that, Yuan Wenkang pulled out his wallet, took out a stack of cash, and tossed it onto the table. "I don't like carrying a lot of cash, so this is all I have on me. Consider it your reward for now. There'll be more once the job is done!"

Wu Dahu didn't hear a word Yuan Wenkang said after that. His eyes were glued to the cash on the table.

The moment Yuan Wenkang finished speaking, Wu Dahu eagerly reached out to grab the bills.

But another hand was faster—Sixth Master's.

Sixth Master snatched the money away before Wu Dahu could reach it, pocketing it all.

Wu Dahu was about to protest when Yuan Wenkang waved his hand dismissively.

"Alright, you two can leave. I need to think about how to deal with that student alone. Even though he's just an ordinary graduate, his position as a village official gives him a certain status. Dealing with him will require some thought."

Hearing this, Wu Dahu and Sixth Master didn't hesitate. They stood up and left the villa.

Soon, they were outside the villa complex, where Sixth Master hailed a taxi.

Seeing Sixth Master about to leave, Wu Dahu grew anxious and rushed to stop him. "Sixth Master! Wait! Don't go yet!"

With that, Sixth Master pulled out the stack of bills, peeled off a small portion, and handed it to Wu Dahu.

Wu Dahu stared at the meager sum in his hand, about to say something more.

However, Sixth Master cut him off. "Now, Wu Dahu, don't think it's too little. I've got a crew of brothers to support, you know. But don't you worry, our best days are still ahead. In the future, you'll definitely be making more than me!"

Without giving Wu Dahu another chance to speak, Sixth Master hopped into the taxi and sped away.

He left Wu Dahu standing there, stunned and alone.
