Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster

Chapter 446: Type of Person

Chapter 446: Type of Person

The moment he sat down, Nyx placed her fingers over the piano keys, ready to play another melody.

And play another melody she did.

It was a low-tempo song that represented grief. At first, he didn’t feel very comfortable as the memories of his sister and Zafira that he had buried in the back of his mind resurfaced.

But before he could dwell on those feelings, Nyx increased the pace of the melody, turning it cheerful.

Now, the sad memories of his sister and Zafira were replaced with happier ones.

A faint smile appeared on his face as he listened along until, eventually, she finished playing.

“I believe music is akin to a window directly to the soul,” Nyx said. “Subjectively, eyes are the same, but through music, you can get to know the person on a much deeper level.”

She turned toward him, then tilted her head. “What kind of person do you think I am from the music I played?”

Rael fell into thought for a moment, then gave her a pretty plain answer.

“You’re someone who puts others before yourself… I guess the word I’m looking for is empathetic?” Rael replied. “Instead of playing music you enjoy, you played something that would touch my emotions and even cheer me up.”

Hearing that, Nyx let out a giggle.

“In truth, you are only partially right,” Nyx said. “While I did play music suited to you, the true test was to determine what kind of person you are.”

“…Me? That doesn’t sound like me at all.”

“Doesn’t it though? Believe it or not, that is the true you,” Nyx replied with a nod. “Music also shows how an individual perceives the world and others around them. Some might’ve said I was a person who liked to taunt innocent people with grief and joy, while others would completely miss the point and stare at my breasts.”

She sighed. “You get the idea though, don’t you?”

“I guess so,” Rael said plainly and decided to cut straight to the chase.

“So what was all this about? These tests to figure out what type of person I am… And why even bring me to your domain in the first place?”

“You coincidentally carry a skill I had created very long ago,” Nyx replied immediately. “After you had used its main function, I was notified. I became slightly interested in your behavior, and after noticing how you figured out the secret cheat code, I couldn’t help but want to get to know you better.”

She gave him a thumbs up. “I embody the Sin of Sloth. Rather, I was given such a title after I had accidentally slept for five million years… But that’s beside the point.”

Right…

“So the Sloth skill belongs to you, I see…” Rael muttered.

I have a few other Sin-type skills, so can I also get the attention of the beings who created them? Seems pretty useful if that’s the case, he thought and asked another question.

“Cheat code? Do you mean sleeping in the Mind Realm?”

Nyx smiled. “And you are correct. Sleeping inside the Mind Realm is completely undetected by the system. The time dilation acts as a cheat code, which means we can sleep however long we want without the Laws ever detecting us.”

“That sounds a bit broken though, no?” Rael posed the question. “I mean… I usually get 8 hours of sleep, so you’re telling me if I choose to sleep long enough to make 8 hours pass outside…”

Rael did some quick calculations, then raised a brow. “I would get 28,880 years’ worth of stats?”

“In a sense, yes,” Nyx replied. “You would get 28,880 years’ worth of stats, but in turn, you might go berserk and destroy everything in the vicinity once you wake up.”

Before he could ask more questions, she raised a single finger to stop him as she continued.

“The stats, while lucrative, come with a cost. You should limit yourself to sleeping 100 years per week to not go berserk,” Nyx said. “I have gone berserk thousands of times, and every single time, I managed to destroy at least three universes. Your power becomes heightened, and your body moves on autopilot. Plus, the only way to stop the rampage is to wait it out. No outside interference can help.”

Hearing that, Rael fell into thought for a few moments.

As he remembered, sleeping for 8 hours in the normal world used to net him 25~80 regular stats, so if he were to only sleep for 100 years, then he would roughly get 2–9 special stat points, which, of course, translates to 7 to 9 million regular stats.

He was sure he could get more if he leveled the skill up a bit, but even so…

That’s fine. That’s literally a free 8 to 28 special stats per month, and all that for free.

However, there was one thing he was curious about.

“You said powers are heightened when you’re berserk… So let’s say I purposefully go berserk in enemy territory, would that—”

“I’ve done that before, it’s quite fun,” Nyx replied with a smile. “But truthfully, you are far too weak to be attempting such grand things. Focus on your Laws, focus on some mundane leveling, and lastly, once you have attained an adequate amount of power, seek me out in the Dream Realm.”

Rael’s brows twitched. “So you really called me here just out of boredom?”

“Hmm? I called you here because I was curious about you… and slightly bored,” Nyx replied with a subtle pout. “Aside from that, we will meet again, likely much sooner than you are expecting.”

She stood up from the piano bench and extended her hand toward him.

“I shall bestow upon you a gift as an apology for disturbing you, but, as is my tradition, you sadly won’t remember what the gift is,” Nyx said. “But in due time, once you most need it, my gift shall reveal itself.”

With those words, Nyx flashed an even brighter smile, then grabbed his hand. The moment she did, Rael’s vision darkened as once again, he felt his consciousness drift away.

But instead of falling back asleep, his eyes suddenly shot open as the familiar Mind Realm with a crimson moon above him came into sight.

Not only that, the notification he had been waiting for arrived as well.

<…>

She said I’ll know what the gift is whenever I most need it, huh? Rael thought with a sigh and rose from the bed, then glanced into the distance.

As expected, Ignatiel was still struggling in his cage, but clearly, it was about time a second had passed in the outside world, and if that was the case, Melina was going to kill him very soon.

Therefore, Rael shattered the glass cage that surrounded himself, then slowly approached Ignatiel.

A/N: Bit of a random question, but does this more descriptive style of writing seem enjoyable? My content editor nagged me that I don’t do enough scene setting/emotional descriptions, so I’m just curious if I’m getting it right, or I’m missing completely and just making stuff too draggy. Opinions are appreciated :]
