Chapter 441: Three Taps
“He’s a partner of mine,” Melina chimed in. “We’re working together on something right now, so it might be in your best interests to get out of Indra for a while.”
“Really?” Lucien smiled widely. “Might I join in? You should know I am capable of being more than a bartender, miss.”
Right as Melina was about to answer, Rael tapped the table with his finger once.
From the tip of his finger, frost spread out, but it was invisible to the naked eye. However, the alcohol bottles behind Lucien soon froze up, and a moment later the few drunkards that had gathered in the inn suddenly passed out, falling to the ground.
Yet when Rael tapped the table again, the bottles that had been frozen and the drunkards that had passed out soon returned to normal.
They were slightly confused by what had just happened, but they played it off as having drunk too much.
And what better way to cure a hangover than with another hangover?
So just like that, they went back to drinking, and once again, the inn became peaceful as though nothing had just happened.
Despite the clear show of power, Lucien didn’t even flinch as he stared at Rael with an unmoving smile.
Then he extended both hands. Just as it seemed he was about to attack, he suddenly began clapping, his smile widening.
“That was an interesting performance,” Lucien remarked. “If you want, you can work as my personal fridge. Mine broke down a few days ago, so sadly, a few products spoiled.”
“I’m not a fridge,” Rael replied, slightly flabbergasted. “But if the message wasn’t clear enough, then let me rephrase.”
He leaned in and narrowed his eyes. “We will be doing what we have to do with just the three of us, so take her advice and pack up.”
Under any other normal circumstance, Rael would jump at the opportunity to get this guy on board. However, he was a wild card Rael wouldn’t dare to play.
Not only was he much stronger than Melina and Rael, he was also someone whose outer thoughts Rael couldn’t read.
Only his emotions stood out, or rather, the lack of them.
I can only sense amusement from him. It’s almost like that’s all he feels, Rael thought. So if not for my gut instinct, the skills alone would tell me this guy isn’t someone I would ever want to turn my back to.
Nonetheless, it seemed like he managed to get his words across as Lucien raised his hands in defeat.
“Very well, I shall make my way out of Indra shortly, but before I do, would you care to have a drink?” Lucien offered, grabbing hold of the wine bottle he had entered with. He opened it, causing the cork to shoot up toward one of the drunkards in the distance, narrowly missing him.
He poured the crimson wine into a clean glass, then pushed it over to Rael.
“Don’t worry, I don’t poison important guests,” Lucien said, subtly turning his gaze over to Melina. “Sometimes.”
Before Rael could respond, Chop-E approached and grabbed the glass of wine before downing it in the blink of an eye.
A moment later, his bluish-white crystalline body turned slightly red, especially near the Plasma Core.
But it seemed like the Plasma Core acted as a sort of filter as the red color soon vanished, replaced by an even more radiant bluish-white.
“Thank you for the drink,” Chop-E said with a curt bow, then stepped back beside Rael as if nothing had happened.
“Hmm… Well, I’m glad at least someone enjoyed it,” Lucien replied with a chuckle and rolled up his sleeves before glancing back at Rael.
He opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but instead he simply shook his head.
“You tapping the table three times was enough to get the point across, and for that, I shall leave you three to your own devices,” Lucien said, turning around.
Immediately, Rael felt a sharp headache assault him as if his mind was being carved up.
But by using more mana and making sure to keep calm, the headache soon faded.
The moment it did, Lucien flashed a subtle smile and walked away, entering the back room he had initially come from.
As for Rael, he stared at the desk and his fingers with a blank look.
There was something off about what Lucien had said just now, but no matter how much Rael thought about it, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
Tapping the table three times… Three times?
The headache returned, but it was slightly duller.
It felt as if he was imagining things, but he was sure that he had sensed a lie when Lucien spoke, yet that feeling vanished when the headache hit him.
But just in case he was going crazy…
“Hey, random question. How many times did I tap the table?” Rael asked.
“Hm…? Three times, I think?” Melina replied with a tilt of her head. “Why? Are you planning to freeze the bottles again?”
Rael ignored her and turned toward Chop-E.
“What about you?”
Chop-E stared at him for a few moments, and instead of replying, he suddenly opened his mouth.
The Plasma Core in his chest began to glow as its light traveled up his throat, then out of his mouth in the form of a hologram.
Since when can he do that? Rael raised a brow and paid attention.
It displayed the entire situation since they first entered the inn, and so Rael began carefully watching it.
Finally, the part where he had tapped the table appeared on the hologram.
He tapped it once to spread out the frost, then he tapped it again to retract the frost.
Rael waited for there to be some kind of plot twist, but that was it as the hologram continued for a few more seconds before finally cutting off.
Chop-E closed his mouth as the Plasma Core settled down in his chest.
Then he gave Rael a quick nod.
“Twice.”
