Chapter 245: 029: Eerie Sea Area
“Isn’t this… too exaggerated…”
A city wall dozens of miles high, stretching endlessly in width… Even if constructed on land, it would be an unimaginable feat, let alone being built on the vast ocean.
“Atlantis, what kind of civilization was this?”
It goes without saying that this must have been left behind by Atlantis. Previously, the idea of its ancient core district housing a population of a billion seemed far-fetched, but now, it doesn’t seem like nonsense after all…
“How did such a powerful civilization come to an end?”
And then there was Acadia, Visnate, and Molun—four formidable wizard civilizations that once ruled the land, seas, skies, and underground. These ultimate overlords of the world disappeared overnight.
What a pity!
…
With the help of the catfish monsters, Lynch and his group successfully ascended the waterfall. After sailing for another two weeks, they finally reached their ultimate destination—Shadow Sea Domain.
Shadow Sea Domain.
An expanse of endless dark clouds hovered above the ocean, shrouding the sky entirely. The clouds blocked out the sunlight, rendering the entire space dim and filled with a deathly stillness.
The atmosphere resembled Shadow Land, yet its size far surpassed that of Shadow Land.
The sea was unnaturally calm, almost eerily so, as if Lynch had entered a motionless body of water.
A layer of gray mist seemed to hang over the sea’s surface, deepening the already oppressive darkness of the environment.
Sailboats, mysteriously intact with sails still unfurled on their tall masts, dotted the sea domain. Yet, the crew members were conspicuously absent, their whereabouts unknown.
The silence was unnerving—it truly gave off a ghostly vibe.
“What kind of place is this…”
“So many ships…”
“Where have the crew members gone?”
Lynch’s expression grew increasingly serious. Since arriving here, he had sensed an unusual spiritual field emanating throughout this domain, all converging toward a singular direction—their destination.
That mysterious island.
Magic Power Alchemy Research Institute.
The voyage continued.
The Parrot drifted through this deathly still environment for two days. On the morning of the third day, they reached their destination.
“An island! It’s an island!”
“Master Wizard, is this the island you spoke of?”
“Have we arrived?”
The sailors gathered on the deck, gazing intently ahead. Sure enough, an island emerged on the distant horizon. It wasn’t large—about ten miles in size—with a lush forest covering most of its surface. At its center stood a small hill, and the terrain overall was quite flat.
Lynch pulled out his navigation chart and cross-referenced it with the coordinates recorded in Richard’s diary. Both matched perfectly; this had to be the place.
“Strange… Why do I feel an urge to explore the island?”
“Is there treasure there?”
“Are we… going to go ashore?”
The sailors’ behavior started to seem peculiar. In fact, their emotional shifts had been noticeable ever since entering this domain—an inexplicable desire, as if drawn to explore its depths and uncover its secrets.
Even without Lynch’s directional guidance, had they been sailing alone, they would likely have ended up at this very island.
“A Domain?”
Wizard Somda had once discussed the Magic Power Alchemy Research Institute with Lynch. In his Book of Knowledge, there were detailed blueprints of this wizard organization. According to the designs, the gray fog surrounding the area originated from here, functioning as a defensive domain.
The blueprints suggested that the fog’s ability should disorient intruders, preventing them from locating the hidden island. Yet, now it seemed the fog was doing the opposite.
Could it be intentionally luring people within the mist to land on the island?
Lynch consulted the catfish monsters that had escorted them here, asking if they knew anything about this island. Unfortunately, he didn’t glean much useful information.
According to the catfish monsters, the island had drifted here from far away when they were young and had remained stationary ever since. The fog had always blanketed this location, drawing in ships that had lost their way. Once those ships entered, their occupants vanished mysteriously.
The Sea Clan, lacking the curiosity inherent to wizards, naturally avoided exploring the island. Though aware of its existence, none had ever conducted deeper investigations.
“I see…”
Though Lynch didn’t uncover significant leads, it hardly mattered; the information he possessed was sufficient. He decided not to waste any more time and commenced the exploration.
First, Lynch cast a spell, guiding the sailors into slumber. Their emotional fluctuations had been intensifying over time, potentially leading to a loss of sanity. Based on Richard’s diary, Lynch deemed it prudent to keep them asleep for now.
Next, Lynch began preparing his exploration gear.
He unveiled his four trusted subordinates: Demon Frankenstein, Bloodline Refining Barton, Alchemy Machine Iron Armor Little Treasure, and his newly created Clay Puppet Hellfire. Parker was left behind as a mere mascot to guard the ship.
Then, Lynch retrieved various pre-prepared alchemy tools, including crystal balls, alchemy spiders, alchemy fireflies, and alchemy bombs.
Finally, he summoned a line of skeletons and zombies from the Sealing Technique Book. And with that, a formidable exploration party was formed.
Exploring unknown territories carries inherent risks. If there were no alternatives, such endeavors might demand personal action. But given the option, it was far more favorable to delegate the dangerous tasks.
Two skeletons replaced the sailors in handling the control of a small boat, while Frankenstein, along with the remaining skeletons and alchemy devices, boarded another one under Lynch’s command.
As for Lynch himself, he stationed himself on the ship’s deck, watching over the crystal ball. The scenes within displayed the visuals captured by Frankenstein’s squad.
This combination of Eagle Eye Technique and Spiritual Imprint enabled Lynch to extend his vision remotely. By pre-marking the spiritual imprint on his undead servants, then channeling the Eagle Eye Technique through the crystal ball, Lynch achieved effective remote monitoring.
Morris’s Necromancy Manual provided advanced undead control knowledge, enabling remote manipulation of spirits. Such control scales with the spellcaster’s spiritual strength—the stronger the spirit, the greater the control force, including extended range.
Having recently ascended as a mid-level wizard, Lynch successfully transitioned from spirit fogging to liquefaction. His spiritual power had increased significantly, rising from a mere hundred when he first became a wizard to over two hundred now.
A spiritual strength exceeding 200 allows for maximum control over undead servants within a thirty-mile diameter. Within this range, Lynch retained full authority over minions bonded to him via spiritual link.
All preparations complete, the assembled undead exploration crew boarded their small boats, setting off in an imposing procession toward the island.
And thus, Lynch embarked on the exploration of these ruins, marking the beginning of his journey…
