Chapter 224: 008: Deep Meditation Method: Time Wheel
In the early hours of the morning, Baron Acate passed away. Perhaps he had already reached the end of his life, but was purely holding on through sheer willpower.
After receiving Lynch’s promise and realizing there was no hope left, the willpower he had been relying on completely dissipated.
The funeral was scheduled for three days later, but that was no longer something Lynch needed to concern himself with.
However, he did not immediately return to Shadow Land. Instead, he decided to wander the Mortal World for a while to shake off the boredom and monotony brought on by cultivation. Cultivation was important, of course, but the Wizard’s Road couldn’t be solely about cultivation.
In the vast expanse of the Ancient Ruins, there were still many places he hadn’t explored. Take the Seven Great Kingdoms of humanity, for instance—he had only been to two or three of them.
The Knight Tournament of the Lorent Kingdom, the Water Capital of the Valkyrie, Burgundy’s Windmill Granary, and the Nathan Kingdom, surrounded by forests and rumored to have werewolf sightings… This land held so many breathtaking sights he had yet to witness.
Lynch planned to spend some time traveling across the kingdoms, visiting all these nations, and gaining more experience and insight. After all, reading about something in books was entirely different from seeing it with his own eyes.
Of course, the primary goal was still coordinates.
Time coordinates.
…
Not long after Lynch advanced to become a Wizard, at the Time Hut—
When Lynch first entered the Time Hut after his promotion, he was surprised to discover that this peculiar space had undergone some intriguing changes.
Around the circular plaza, five uniquely patterned stone gates had appeared. Each gate bore the design of a ring-shaped Magic Array, ranging from a First Ring to a Fifth Ring.
These were the universal Wizard’s Ring symbols, corresponding to the five levels of transcendent life achievable after advancing as a Wizard.
First-rank Wizard.
Second Tier Mystic Technique.
Third-tier Domain.
Fourth-tier Rules.
And the highest known level of Wizardry in the current world, Fifth Tier Truth.
Lynch asked curiously, “What is this?”
The alarm clock waddled over, its large feet making a squishy noise like it was wearing plush slippers.
Coming to a stop before Lynch, it said, “This is the inheritance left for you by Master Wizard. Once your strength reaches the corresponding level, you’ll be able to open the respective gates and acquire the inheritance within.”
“These inheritances are closely tied to Time. Once you have received all of them, you may have the chance to achieve ’Eternal Time.’”
Lynch retorted, speechless, “And you couldn’t have mentioned this earlier!”
For years, Lynch had been painstakingly researching that bizarre device called ’Time,’ entrusted to him by Wizard Somda. Yet, despite all his effort, he had finally arrived at one monumental conclusion—
There was no conclusion!
The artifact was entirely beyond his comprehension. Based on his current level of knowledge, he couldn’t even begin to understand Wizard Somda’s creation, let alone attempt to improve upon it.
“What is this? And what the hell is this?”
Though many of the basic components of the device could be found in Wizard Somda’s study, Lynch had no idea how to combine them or what reactions their combination might produce.
So, after a period of fruitless study, Lynch decisively set it aside, realizing it was far beyond his current capabilities. Instead, he simply used the space of the Time Hut as an ’external device’ to accelerate his cultivation progress.
He had originally thought he might revisit it in the future, once he had gathered more information and increased his own knowledge. Had he known there was inheritance involved, he wouldn’t have wasted so much mental effort before.
With an earnest tone, the alarm clock explained, “Wizard Somda specifically instructed not to disclose it early. The transfer of knowledge originates from curiosity, not being spoon-fed. Only when one seeks answers out of uncertainty and inquisitiveness can knowledge be absorbed more effectively.”
Lynch was at a loss for words.
Forget it. He might as well take a look inside.
Stepping up to the First Ring gate on the left, Lynch followed the alarm clock’s instructions. He placed his hand on it and channeled his spiritual power into the door. As the spiritual power flowed in, the patterns on the gate gradually began to illuminate.
“Boom, boom, boom!” With a thunderous rumble, the enormous, heavy stone gate slowly swung inward.
Lynch stepped inside.
The space beyond the gate was a vast hall, significantly larger than the exterior of the structure. The immense chamber housed row upon row of bookshelves, each packed with thick tomes.
Every bookshelf bore a unique serial number, as did each book, as if to indicate the sequence in which Lynch should read them.
“Rustle, rustle!”
At that moment, the flapping of wings echoed through the air, and a book, as though it were a bird, flew toward Lynch. Its serial number was: 0.
Taking the book in his hands, Lynch’s gaze fell on its title, and he couldn’t help but exclaim in shock.
“Deep Meditation Method!”
It was actually a Deep Meditation Method!
The Meditation Chapter from the apprentice period only described basic meditation content, often called the Shallow Meditation Method. It was meant for apprentices advancing to Wizards through meditation training, but its utility diminished significantly upon reaching the Wizard Level.
At this stage, continuing down the Wizard’s Road required practicing Deep Meditation using the corresponding Deep Meditation Method.
However, Lynch currently did not possess a Deep Meditation Method. Such knowledge was extremely valuable, typically monopolized by Towers and major Wizard Families. The versions circulating on the open market were exceedingly rare, and apprentices advancing to Wizard status often had to apply to their organizations to acquire one, pending lengthy approvals.
Lynch had already submitted his application to the Tower, but the review process would take time, and thus he had yet to receive a Deep Meditation Method.
Now, confronted with the Deep Meditation Method in his hands, Lynch was overwhelmed with excitement. After all, this meant he could start Wizard-level meditation early, taking the first real steps on the Wizard’s Road.
His enthusiasm, however, was short-lived. When his gaze fell upon the insignia on the book denoting the level of the meditation method, his initial excitement was instantly dampened.
“Huh? Low-level? Tsk tsk, and it’s just First Ring…”
Deep Meditation Methods were classified by level, with depth determining quality—Low-level, Mid-level, and High-level—while breadth determined scope, spanning from One Ring to Five Rings.
The classification held great significance. Depth determined the benefits the meditation method could bring to a Wizard, such as the growth in spiritual power, control over magical energy, and the potency of spells.
Breadth, on the other hand, dictated a Wizard’s potential ceiling. A First Ring meditation method capped advancement at the First Ring, while a Second Ring allowed progression to Second Tier Mystic Technique, and so on.
Lynch felt deeply disappointed.
Before him lay one of the weakest Deep Meditation Methods, barely qualifying in terms of both breadth and depth. Such methods were typically used only by Wild Wizards or Grey Wizards who lacked proper inheritances and had no other options, as their potential was severely limited.
Wait a moment—this couldn’t be right. Wizard Somda wouldn’t have left him with something this terrible, would he? That would be outright sabotage!
As Lynch grappled with his doubts, the alarm clock’s voice rang out in explanation.
“This one can evolve.”
The alarm clock elaborated, “The Deep Meditation Method in your hands is quite special. For now, it’s merely a blank framework, capable of providing foundational meditation. However, it’s designed to grow in both depth and breadth as you accumulate more knowledge.”
“With the continuous accumulation of knowledge, its potential has no limits.”
Lynch was taken aback. “Wait, you mean such a thing exists?”
To his knowledge, meditation methods were fixed from the moment of their creation, with neither their framework nor their content being alterable—not even a single word. They were meticulously constructed systems.
Clearly, what the alarm clock was describing diverged entirely from what he had learned.
The alarm clock continued, “There’s nothing strange about it. The Wizard World is vast beyond comprehension. What you know and understand are only the theories within your immediate grasp. The realm of knowledge is ever-changing, filled with countless things unknown to you—things that will upend your understanding.”
Lynch’s lips twitched.
He had just been outclassed by an alarm clock…
The alarm clock went on, “Alright, whether you want to study it or not is up to you. However, I must remind you: this Deep Meditation Method is one of the keys you’ll need to return here. Should you ultimately reject it, you will lose access to this place.”
“After all, mastering Wizard Somda’s creation requires learning this Deep Meditation Method. If you refuse it, there will be no reason for your return.”
“Additionally…”
Pausing briefly, it added, “I must also warn you in advance—enhancing this meditation method, increasing its rings and levels, will be immensely challenging. Every small improvement will demand a tremendous accumulation of knowledge and countless breakthroughs. These bottlenecks cannot be overcome with external help—you’ll have to rely on your own comprehension each time.”
“Alright, I’ve conveyed all that the Wizard asked me to relay.”
“Now, make your choice.”
So that’s how it is…
What should he choose?
There wasn’t much to hesitate about. Currently, the Deep Meditation Methods of the Ancient Ruins were held tightly by major Wizard Families. Though his application had been submitted, when it would be approved was completely uncertain.
Meanwhile, this was a complete Wizard Inheritance. Although it seemed unimpressive now, it had the advantage of being upgradeable, with immense future potential.
Not to mention this was tied to access to the Time Hut and the vast wealth of Time-based Magic Knowledge it contained. Comparing the options, it was obvious what the smarter choice would be.
Even if, worst-case scenario, the inheritance turned out to be subpar or the difficulty of enhancing it proved too high, he could always switch methods in the future. The meditation rules allowed for some flexibility.
Having thought it through, Lynch banished his hesitation. He reached out and ran his fingers over the large characters on the cover, which read:
“Time Wheel”
This was the name of the Deep Meditation Method.
With that,
He opened the book.
From that day forward, Lynch began Wizard-level meditation, taking the first meaningful step on the Wizard’s Road.
