Rong Yue from Liao Chen’s lips was Young Gentleman Ming Yue.

Although Rong Yue had never met Long Yi before, he carried the Black Moon sword and used the techniques of Sword Lodge.

At that moment, Xuanyuan Qi had acted in time and rescued him from Long Yi’s hands.

Long Yi was enraged and engaged Xuanyuan Qi in a fierce battle, but halfway through, Long Yi suddenly stopped.

“Why did he stop fighting all of a sudden?” Liao Chen asked. At the time, he had been too far away and had not seen the details clearly.

“Because of this.” Xuanyuan Qi held up the wolf fang jade pendant in his hand.

“That?” Liao Chen was puzzled.

Xuanyuan Qi said, “Twenty-one years ago, by Sword Lodge’s command, he pursued the Lord of the Shadows. At that time, he already had the upper hand, but just like today, he suddenly stopped. I never understood why. Thinking of it now, I fear it was also because of this wolf fang jade pendant.”

Liao Chen said, “Father once told me this was a gift from the Lord of the Shadows.”

Xuanyuan Qi said, “That’s right. She gave it to me on my birthday. She knew my elder brother first and fought alongside him through many campaigns, only later did she come to know me. She and my brother were closer.”

Liao Chen: Why does Father’s tone sound a little sour?

Xuanyuan Qi then said proudly, “But my elder brother does not have this.”

Liao Chen: And now you’re showing off?

Returning to the matter, Liao Chen asked, “But why would Long Yi spare Father upon seeing it? Could it be that Long Yi recognizes this pendant? That he knew the first Lord of the Shadows?”

On this point, Xuanyuan Qi was not certain. Long Yi had left without a word, forcing him to go to Sword Lodge Island himself in search of answers.

Long Yi had seized the Black Moon sword, but he had destroyed most of the island’s defensive mechanisms, so at least they need not worry about being unable to enter.

The two of them arrived at Sword Lodge Island the next day.

The island was littered with corpses, the air reeking of rot and dried blood.

At a glance, Rong Yue spotted a corpse clad in the Sect Leader’s robes. He rushed over, crying out “Father!”, only to realize it was not his father.

Liao Chen held his breath. “You could tell?”

Rong Yue said, “Although the face is rotted, my father isn’t this short.”

Liao Chen sneered. “Looks like your father has shed his skin like a cicada.”

Xuanyuan Qi’s purpose was to uncover the truth of what had happened. He searched the entire island, and with Rong Yue’s help, they eventually found a hidden chamber in the Sect Leader’s study.

“I’ve never been here before. Father never allowed me to enter his study.” Rong Yue said.

“Let’s go in and see.” Liao Chen replied.

Inside the secret chamber were stored all manner of strange elixirs, as well as many oddities Rong Yue had never seen before.

Liao Chen opened a chest and pulled out a rusted weapon. “A firelance. Strange… firelances were inventions of the Lord of the Shadows, so why would Sword Lodge Island also have them?”

The three of them continued searching.

Aside from the firelance, they also found many items that only the Shadow Division should have possessed.

Liao Chen frowned. “Did this man steal from the Shadow Division?”

Xuanyuan Qi replied, “It’s possible.”

Back then, when the Sword Lodge destroyed the various branches of the Shadow Division, all of the belongings within were lost as well.

Liao Chen accidentally triggered a hidden switch, and a brocade box popped out from the wall. Opening it, he drew out a yellowed notebook. “Huh? There’s a journal here.”

After Xuanyuan Qi read through it, he suddenly understood. “So Shi Tian actually came from Hidden Night Island, he was the child of its first Island Lord.”

……

Inside the council chamber of Sword Lodge, Long Yi and Sect Leader Rong clashed fiercely.

Sect Leader Rong gave a cold snort. “Your martial arts were taught by me. Do you really think that just because you have the Black Moon sword, you can be my match?”

The Black Moon sword?

Was it in Long Yi’s hand?

Gu Jiao had only regained consciousness upon entering the council chamber, so she had not seen clearly what sword Long Yi was holding.

A doubt flickered in her heart. Since the Black Moon sword had vanished together with the Sect Leader’s son, then if the Sect Leader recognized this sword, how could he not ask about his own child?

It seemed that Sword Lodge’s Sect Leader held little affection for his son.

And perhaps it was no wonder. After all, if he truly cared, he would not have allowed his son to suffer abuse at the hands of his stepmother.

The battle between Long Yi and the Sect Leader was intense. The sound of tables and chairs splintering echoed again and again. Since Sect Leader Rong had his planted spy, Li Jiangping, he must have frequently obtained purple herb fruit from Hidden Night Island.

Whether Long Yi could stand against him remained uncertain.

Sect Leader Rong unleashed a frigid sword qi that blocked Long Yi’s attack, and then struck a heavy palm onto Long Yi’s shoulder.

Long Yi was forcefully shaken and hurled into the wall behind him, then crashed down onto the tables and chairs, scattering wood splinters everywhere.

He propped himself up with his sword and launched another attack toward Sect Leader Rong.

But before he could fully unleash his strike, Sect Leader Rong struck him again, sending him flying once more, this time even knocking the long sword out of his hand.

A sharp pain spread through Long Yi’s chest, blood seeping from the corner of his lips.

Sect Leader Rong released a third palm strike, shattering Long Yi’s dantian entirely. Long Yi spewed out a mouthful of blood, his whole body twitching in spasms.

Step by step, Sect Leader Rong walked toward him, looking down with arrogant disdain. “Shi Tian, tell me, why do you insist on such folly? Why oppose me? Have I not treated you well? Or is it… that your memories have awakened again?”

Awakened again?

Could it be that Long Yi had lost his memory more than once?

And from his tone, it even seemed that Long Yi’s memory loss was connected to him.

Twenty-one years ago, Long Yi had been sent to assassinate the Lord of the Shadows, Xuanyuan Qi, yet halfway through their battle, Long Yi had abandoned the mission of his own accord.

After that, Long Yi disappeared.

And not long after, he had turned up in the Princess Mansion, suffering from amnesia.

That time, his memory loss must have been the doing of Sect Leader Rong!

Why had Sect Leader Rong erased Long Yi’s memory?

What exactly had Long Yi remembered?

A flood of questions surged in Gu Jiao’s heart. She wanted to help Long Yi, but the knocked out drug within her body had taken effect.

This was no ordinary drug, and this black-robed man was no ordinary swordsman.

Sect Leader Rong mocked as he looked at the grievously injured, blood-spitting Long Yi. “Do you know why I sent you to assassinate Xuanyuan Qi? I only wanted to lure out the first Lord of the Shadows. I have always believed she was inextricably linked with Hidden Night Island. If what I desired was not on the island, then it must be in her hands. But now, it seems some little girl has obtained her possessions. I’ve already captured that girl, and whether she appears or not no longer matters. As for you, I originally had no wish to utterly destroy you, but you have ruined my plans again and again. So don’t blame me for disregarding the bond between master and disciple!”

He raised his long sword and drove it fiercely toward Long Yi’s heart!

Whoosh!

Just then, Long Yi caught the long sword with his bare hands!

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
