The violent jolting inflicted massive trauma on Ma Lin. In other words, that one kick had killed him.
His subordinates had no idea. They only wanted to quickly carry the man out, report to their Young Master, and then rush Ma Lin to the hospital.
"Young—Young Master!"
"There's been an accident, Young Master!"
Just as they exited the Zero Degree Cinema, the two men sprinted toward the commercial van where Zou Wendong was, shouting with all their might.
Hmm?
Zou Wendong furrowed his brow, lowered the tablet in his hand, and turned to look out the window. Instantly, a cold glint flashed in his eyes.
Ma Lin might have just been one of my dogs, but as the saying goes, you have to see who the owner is before you beat the dog! No matter how bad he was, he was still my dog!
Zou Wendong pushed open the car door and stepped out. His cold eyes swept over the two men running toward him as he asked in a deep voice, "What exactly happened?"
"It was that woman's boyfriend!" one of them said in terror. "Right as Brother Ma was about to make his move, that guy just kicked him, and then Brother Ma ended up like this."
"That powerful? Ma Lin didn't even have a chance to fight back?" Zou Wendong frowned.
"It was over in a single move."
The corner of Zou Wendong's mouth twitched, and he finally looked over at Ma Lin. But a single glance made his expression change dramatically. He hurriedly bent down and put a hand under Ma Lin's nose to check for breathing.
"This…"
Zou Wendong's face contorted. Dead? He was a third-tier Fist Master, yet he was kicked to death in a single exchange?
Even the experienced and composed Zou Wendong felt waves of shock ripple through him.
"This... this can't be possible. He was fine a moment ago."
"Young Master, could you be mistaken?"
The two subordinates couldn't believe it. He was just spitting up blood a moment ago. How could he be dead?
They each reached out to check for themselves, and one by one, they froze in stunned disbelief.
He's really dead!
"Hmph!" Zou Wendong let out a cold snort. "To dare kill one of my men... What audacity!"
It came back to the same point—even if he was a mad dog, he belonged to me, Zou Wendong. How could I let someone else just slaughter him at will?
As he was thinking, a luxury van pulled up nearby. The electric door slid open, and two young women stepped out. One was dressed in simple casual wear, with delicate features and an air of brisk efficiency about her. This was, of course, Sun Yuli.
The other wore a long coat with the hood pulled up high and a face mask adorned with a cartoon pattern. Despite her obscured features, the aura she exuded made her seem utterly out of place with everyone on the street, including Sun Yuli beside her. She gave off the feeling of a Nine Heavens Goddess who had descended to the mortal world, her celestial air still lingering.
Zou Wendong's eyes lit up, his expression turning eager. He waved frantically at his two men. "Quick, get Ma Lin out of here! Don't be an eyesore."
"Yes, Young Master."
They acknowledged the order and disappeared in a flash.
Zou Wendong straightened his clothes and tugged at his cuffs. He took the flowers he had prepared from the car and said to the driver, "Same as always. Get the camera ready. The moment I get close to her, start snapping pictures."
"Rest assured, Young Master. I've got this down to a science."
Zou Wendong smiled. Holding the flowers, a faint, confident smile playing on his lips, he strode toward the two girls—or to be more precise, toward the girl wearing the mask.
"Sisi, it looks like that guy is coming for you," Sun Yuli said with a confused frown.
The masked girl, Li Si, glanced up and said indifferently, "He's the organizer of my upcoming concert. You should recognize him, right? He's Zou Wendong, the second son of the Zou Family."
"He called me a couple of times before, but I ignored him. I didn't expect him to find me here." Li Si seemed very nonchalant. To her, this kind of situation was nothing new.
"I met him once or twice a long time ago. We're not close," Sun Yuli said, shaking her head. She then added firmly, "Don't worry. With me here, no one can get near you."
"We won't be needing our resident heroine to step in. I can handle a small matter like this myself," Li Si said with a smile.
Sun Yuli said no more. When it came to combat skills, Li Si was no match for her, but in terms of emotional intelligence, ten Sun Yulis put together couldn't hold a candle to Li Si.
"Mr. Zou, I didn't expect to see you here," Li Si said first, approaching Zou Wendong with a chuckle. "What a coincidence."
"Miss Li, I know you're a very busy person with a packed schedule, so I took the liberty of waiting for you here. My apologies if I've disturbed you," Zou Wendong replied, acting the perfect gentleman with a slight bow and an apologetic smile.
"You're too kind, Mr. Zou. I have indeed been busy preparing for the tour, and today I finally managed to sneak away for a movie with my best friend. Please forgive me for any oversight."
Her words were flawless, leaving Zou Wendong at a loss for how to proceed.
He then presented the bouquet to her. "Miss Li, I prepared these flowers for you with my own hands."
"Thank you, Mr. Zou." Li Si accepted the flowers and immediately passed them to Sun Yuli.
Zou Wendong seized the opportunity to step forward, spreading his arms as if to embrace her. "Miss Li, I hope we have a pleasant cooperation."
Li Si took a small step back, extending a hand as if to steady him. "To a pleasant cooperation," she said with a smile.
With one simple move, she had avoided his hug while also saving his face, killing two birds with one stone.
Forced to abandon his attempt, Zou Wendong cursed viciously in his heart as his anger flared. He felt as though he had thrown a punch with all his might, only for it to sink into a bale of cotton. The feeling was incredibly uncomfortable and frustrating.
So this is Li Si... just as the rumors say. Haughty and distant, never letting anyone get too close! So you won't give me any face, huh? Well then, how would you feel if I delayed your concert for a few days?
「Meanwhile, at the entrance of the Zero Degree Cinema.」
Chen Yang and Zhou Yufei walked out, one after the other.
"Huh? Isn't that Yang?" Sun Yuli was the first to notice Chen Yang, her voice filled with delight.
Li Si visibly froze for a moment. Her eyes scanned the area before finally locking onto Chen Yang at the cinema's entrance.
"Yang!" she cried out, waving her hand as she immediately ran toward him.
Sun Yuli followed with a helpless look, calling after her, "Slow down! You're in high heels! Let's see you perform at your concert if you sprain your ankle."
Chen Yang was astonished. "Sisi?" What a coincidence.
Before he could even process it, Li Si threw herself into his embrace, hugging him tightly. "Yang," she said excitedly, "we haven't seen each other in so long! I've missed you so much!"
