Reincarnated as a Lizard

Chapter 181: A Mountain Gnoll Stronger than the Mountain Gnoll Lord!

Continuing to watch as the one-sided battle between the humans and the mutated dragon devouring slime progressed, Scaly could not help wondering if it would be best for her to leave before she ended up getting targeted by the humans in a similar way that they were targeting the mutated dragon devouring slime.

The main reason for these thoughts being the fact that she had noticed how the crimson flame knight had looked at her when she came face to face with him for a brief moment.

At that time, outside of confusion, she also saw the recognizable look of greed that she had seen back when she had been chased by a large group of humans on the third floor of dungeon.

Even if the chance of the crimson flame knight human coming after her was low considering that she had already managed to hide herself and was rather far away from where the humans and the mutated dragon devouring slime were fighting, she still felt uneasy thinking about how these humans might come chasing after her at a later time.

Worried to the point that she began considering whether or not to use her lighting magic to launch an ambush and try to kill the crimson flame knight human when he had his guard lowered. Part of her believing that the crimson flame knight human would become a far larger threat than the mutated dragon devouring slime.

Looking at the terrifying strength being displayed in the battle with the mutated dragon devouring slime only seemed to confirm this, as he was singlehandedly suppressing the mutated dragon devouring slime on his own, while the rest of the humans worked on slowly cutting off parts of it while it was trying to defend itself against the crimson flame knight who was getting closer and closer to hitting its core.

In the eyes of Scaly, it looked like the group of humans weren't even trying to kill the mutated dragon devouring slime, but was instead slowly torturing it to death, while slowly dismantling parts of its body, something that made even Scaly feel a bit scared of this group of humans, who seemingly took pleasure in torturing the mutated dragon devouring slime.

GROWL-!

However, before she could decide on whether or not to look for a chance to try and kill the crimson flame knight before he came chasing after her, a loud growling sound echoed out from the direction of the gnoll tribe, causing Scaly to turn her attention away from the humans to see the owner of the powerful growl.

[Mountain Gnoll, Lord, lvl 72]

Soon enough spotting the familiar figure of the mountain gnoll lord before noticing another, larger figure beside it.

[Mountain Gnoll, Champion, lvl 79]

Mountain gnoll champion…? Level 79… Is this the strongest mountain gnoll in the tribe?

Seeing the terrifying mountain gnoll that appeared together with the mountain gnoll lord, Scaly could not help thinking this as she looked at the towering mountain gnoll champion as it began charging towards the group of humans busy slowly torturing the mutated dragon devouring slime to death.

At least, with the two powerful mountain gnolls joining the battle, it looked like she wouldn't have to worry about the crimson flame knight coming after her any time soon.

On the other hand, her main worry was that the humans gave up on killing the mutated dragon devouring slime and allowed it to escape.

If it really did escape, it would end up becoming quite a bothersome thing for her to deal with in the future. Especially if it managed to recover and become even stronger than before after what it had experienced at the hands of the group of humans.

"Everyone! The mountain gnolls are back and it looks like this tribe actually has a champion in it!"

"What!? A mountain gnoll champion!? Looks like we will have to give up on killing the mutated dragon devouring slime for now and focus on defending ourselves."

"Indeed, the mutated dragon devouring slime has already been weakened significantly and shouldn't be able to recover in a short period of time. For now, let's get rid of these mountain gnolls."

As the group of humans also turned around and spotted the two powerful mountain gnolls rushing towards, they almost immediately gave up on continuing to attack the mutated dragon devouring slime. Not so much because they wanted to do so, but more so because they all understood that they would have to go all out in the face of those two powerful mountain gnolls if they wanted to survive.

After all, the mountain gnoll champion was nothing to scoff at and was even stronger than even the mountain gnoll lord.

Even a skilled adventurer like the crimson flame knight didn't feel absolutely confident in winning when faced with a powerful monster like a mountain gnoll champion, let alone the weaker humans who were mostly around level 60 and had most of their experience revolving around dealing with slime.

Luckily for them, they were strong enough to face off against the mountain gnoll lord by working together. Leaving the powerful mountain gnoll champion to the crimson flame knight.

Growl!

BANG!

And so, before long, the crimson flame knight charged forward and clashed with the mountain gnoll champion without holding back, causing a terrifying flame to erupt from his sword before engulfing both the mountain gnoll and the surrounding environment.

Forcing the mountain gnoll lord beside the mountain gnoll champion to retreat a few steps, as he was soon met with the combined attacks of the remaining humans, who didn't intend to give the mountain gnoll lord a chance to fight back. Understanding that their strength was weaker and only by keeping up the pressure would they be able to keep the mountain gnoll lord busy while the crimson flame knight fought off the mountain gnoll champion.

Boing~? Boing~!

Seizing the opportunity, the mutated dragon devouring slime didn't bother trying to get revenge against the humans. Understanding its current bad state, as it began escaping from the battlefield while both the humans and the mountain gnolls were busy fighting with each other.

Although this was something she had expected to happen, Scaly could not help feeling a bit unwilling as she watched how the half dead mutated dragon devouring slime began escaping from the battlefield. Understanding that without it dying now, it would soon come back stronger than ever… And considering how it had been chasing her down, Scaly understood that the one to suffer the most from something like that would be her.

Rustle~

With that in mind, Scaly stopped hesitating any longer, as she began moving in the direction of the mutated dragon devouring slime. Making sure that she stayed around the edges of the forest so she could keep herself hidden. Avoiding any problems that might come from her being noticed by the slime, humans or mountain gnolls.

Her goal being to try and silently kill the mutated dragon devouring slime before it had any time to run away, while at the same time remaining out of sight of the humans and mountain gnolls. Knowing very well that it wouldn't be a good thing for her to be noticed by them-

[Mountain Gnoll, Hunter, lvl 37]

Growl?

Huh? A mountain gnoll…?

However, before she could even move for more than a few meters, she ended up running into a mountain gnoll who happened to be hiding inside of the forest just like her-

Ptsh-!

[Gained 678 Exp]

Unfortunately for the mountain gnoll, it was far too slow to react and was easily killed off by her before it had any time to attract any attention from the group fighting not too far away.

However, this encounter did make Scaly slow down her speed slightly, as she began moving through the forest far more carefully compared to before-

[Mountain Gnoll, Trapper, lvl 46]

[Mountain Gnoll, Miner, lvl 21]

[Mountain Gnoll…]

And as a result, she soon realized that the forest was far more populated than she had first expected, with mountain gnoll being everywhere. Clearly having gathered around at the edges of the forest to watch the battle that was taking place from a safe distance.

In a sense, these mountain gnolls weren't much different from her, as they also intended to keep themselves hidden and avoid trouble while watching how the fight played out between their leaders and the group of humans.

Knowing that it would be difficult for her to continue forward without accidentally getting discovered and swarmed by these mountain gnolls, Scaly decided that it was for the best to not kill these mountain gnolls if she didn't need to.

After all, even if she had a good chance of killing them even if they ended up swarming her, this would delay her and give the mutated dragon devouring slime a chance to escape, something that she couldn't allow to happen under any circumstances considering the threat that it posed to her.
