The Rise of Quetzalcoatl

Chapter 374: Ada at The Tolf Meeting (1)

"Honey, just calm down for a second," I smiled at Mia, who was still unamused by the answer.

The roles had completely switched as Mia was calming me down earlier, but now I was the one calming her down. Thankfully, one of us was peaceful at the time. Otherwise, our daughter would have probably just got up and left, leaving us to argue and mostly put the impression in our precious child's mind that were going to break up.

"I hope you understand that I'm not about you going out in the middle of the night with a boy. As long as you are safe, you feel safe, and you follow whatever laws need to be followed, you can do whatever you want. But meeting one to one with the enemy is just asking for an ass beating! A kidnapping! Something we could be blackmailed with!"

"I-I'm sorry… I just thought I should be establishing a better relationship with him and… and stuff…." Our daughter looked down at her feet dangling off the side of the chair.

"*sigh*... Ugh, okay… let's just… let's stop being so negative right now. We haven't had a meal together in a while, so let's change the subject," I immediately intervened.

The rest of our dinner was fruitless, to say the least. The mood had been completely shattered, and my daughter was way too focused on eating the delicious breakfast, so we decided to just let it go. Today might have been a bit worse than usual, but we could fix it any time… right?

"Honey, today you'll be by yourself. If you want to go out and go shopping or maybe to a new restaurant, you must bring your shadows, okay?" Mia spoke up, slicing through the deafening silence that suppressed the entire room. You could have almost called it overwhelming, as I could sense a few of the maids were feeling the tension. Sweat had completely coated their backs, and sweat even slowly began to drip from their scalps.

"Hm? Wait, where are you going? Out on a date?" Our daughter finally looked up from her food. Her cheeks were stuffed like a chipmunk, and her adorable, curious, but also still starved expression was incredibly cute. I just wanted to pick her up and squeeze her with a hug so tight until she popped. God… how could my daughter be so adorable.

"No, Tolf has a meeting today. All the leaders are finally meeting up for the first time in what has it been… a year?" Mia looked towards me, but upon seeing me shrug my shoulders, she just rolled her eyes. Her eyes gazed back at our daughter, who was already back to feasting on the food in front of her. Geez, have we not been feeding her enough, or what? "Well, yeah, probably a year. But, it's not to catch up as a few events have been occurring around the globe… we need a meeting on how to proceed with our future."

"Huh? Then can I come with you? I won't say anything or do anything… I-I just want to watch… is that okay?" Our daughter gave Mia puppy eyes as she knew it wouldn't work on me. And well, to say the least, Mia immediately crumbled under her cuteness and let out a long sigh of defeat.

"Well, if you insist-"

"No, definitely not," I immediately cut in. I had much to discuss, and I didn't want my daughter to learn about those things yet. Sure, some minor things are fine, but I didn't want her poking her nose in places and things she shouldn't even be trying to investigate.

On top of that, the relationship between some of the members has deteriorated greatly. I wouldn't be surprised if a massive fight broke out, splitting the skies and destroying our meeting place. Chaos could ensue from every corner of this meeting, and if my daughter was there, she would die without a shred of doubt… as even I will struggle with suppressing some of the others. Their strength has grown, just like mine… well, most, while some were more focused on other things like Nuala or Amanda and Aria. Even Electra might be added to that list because recently, she's just been lying around, not doing much of anything.

"*sigh*... yeah, your mother is right. I'm sorry baby, but you can't come with us," Mia added on, receiving pitiful eyes so heart-wrenching that I had to look away so I wouldn't be caught in the crossfire. Our daughter even began to slightly tear up, which I didn't fall for in the slightest, but Mia, on the other hand, changed her mind once again. "Okay, honey, just this once?"

"No, because the others will, in addition to everything I'm sure you just read my mind of, complain about how they couldn't bring their kids…" I muttered, hoping Mia would just drop the topic. But instead of the lovely lady picking up the case I had just set down, my daughter spoke up instead.

"Then can't you just text them? Give them a call and come to an agreement?"

"Ugh, fine…"

(Ada POV)

It was a bit last second, but both of my moms agreed to bring me. Despite my mother's continuous decline, she eventually talked with the others, and relucantalty brought me along. Mama, on the other hand, was excited the entire time, clearly falling for the pitiful expression that I used to get my way with her. She was just so weak for me that it almost made me feel sad to use such a manipulative and evil tactic against her.

"*sigh*... don't let go of my hand," Mother sighed, reaching out her hand towards me. But because she was so mean, and I really wanted to get back at her for yelling at me earlier, I shuffled to Mama and immediately hugged her left arm. "You little… ugh, let's just go."

Smirking at mom's reaction, I saw her step through the massive swirling mass of purple goop. It groaned and creeked with eerily familiar sounds that made my ears almost want to bleed. Listening to it was torture, and by the end of its entire performance, it just looped, groaning and creeking once again. It was almost as bad as nails on a chalkboard.

On top of that, its entire body was a bit intimidating as it towered over me and had this swirling pattern that almost seemed to suck in my vision itself. It was an incredibly strange feeling that was even stranger to describe. It was like it had put me in a hypnotic trance, attracting me into its swirling mass, wanting to consume my entire being whole.

"It's okay, baby. Just relax," Mama squeezed my hand, immediately sensing my distress I kept trying to snatch my consciousness back from this portal. It was almost like it was alive, constantly tugging on my own mind for control. And it was a pain in the ass as each time it hindered me, I was unable to even move forward.

"I-I'm not scared… it's just… this thing is so weird."

"Okay then," Mama chuckled, clearly not believing me, before giving my hand a tug. She took me through the portal, and as soon as I arrived on the other side, I quickly placed my hand over my mouth and gagged. I nearly spewed my guts from all the delicious food I stockpiled this morning.

"Oops… forgot to warn you about that," Mama chuckled, rubbing my back slightly. But this only made me want to throw up even more than before, so I quickly brushed her hand away. Ruining the beautiful marble floor that was the first thing I saw would've been extraordinarily disrespectful and a bit rude since it looked as if it was just freshly polished.

Once I had finished my little session of continuously pushing nausea back down, I looked up and saw a grand hall of shining jewelry. It was made from sparkling marble that created high pillars holding up a ceiling so high that it almost seemed to be the sky. And what surprised me even more, apart from its towering heights, was its pitch black yet sparkling and starry pattern which stretched across the ceiling. This only enhanced the universal-like sight, which drew me to its beautiful pattern in the first place.

The walls were glistening and littered with all kinds of gems and geometric shapes carved into the marble walls. They were far from us but not too far to make this seem like we were standing in heaven, but instead, the grand hall of a god-like kingdom, like the hall of a giant race at the very pinnacle of existence itself. It was beautiful.

"Sweetie, stop gawking and get over here," Mother called out to me, gesturing for me to come over. And just as I looked to my side, searching for Mama, I noticed she wasn't there, already sitting down at the circular black table made from the same material as the ceiling. But this time it wasn't dotted with gems to make it seem like the deep night sky, but instead long white lines that were then encrusted with jewels.

"That's a bit over the top…" I murmured before running over to mother.
