The Rise of Quetzalcoatl

Chapter 346: Nuala's Troubles (2)

Nuala's eyes shifted from side to side before her mouth cracked open, and she let out a long, exhausted sigh, all while I took a sip of the glass of water.

"I guess hiding things from you really is impossible… but let me explain myself. I was desperate to get something, anything. Just having the portal, which I know contains titans, isn't enough. I needed more evidence, so I thought I'd go in there by myself. I did go through all the protocols and had several people watch over my moves, but when I went in there… it all happened so quickly,"

"You don't have to tell me everything; just telling the truth is enough for me. I will still love you as a work partner and, most importantly, as a sister," I muttered, hugging her tightly as she limply embraced me with her arms.

"I just thought you would be disappointed in me, and I was worried you would drop me from my job if I didn't have anything to show…."

"Do you really see me like that?" I questioned her, and as a drop of sweat rolled down her cheek, she slightly nodded her head in confirmation. "Then I'm sorry for causing you so much stress."

We hugged it out before she helped me up, me feeling refreshed after the glass of water I had just downed.

"I'm going in again, but let me make a few adjustments to the suit. I can't use my wings while inside of it, so we need to make an opening that I can use. I can fly much faster than I can run," I smiled as we exited the infirmary.

The nurse came back just now, seeing me right next to Nuala, her ice-cold glass of water in hand.

"A-Are you-"

"I am, so don't bug me anymore unless I get injured again," I smiled, and as we walked past, I placed my hand on her shoulder. "You'll get paid a fine bonus for helping me out. Thank you," I smiled even wider, and as she lightly nodded, Nuala and I walked back to the lab, where a few scientists were inspecting my gear.

"Currently, they're seeing if any debris in the teleportation process ripped anything. It must be airtight; otherwise, the gravity and the air will crush your lungs and internal organs,"

"Hm? I've never heard about this. I thought we wore them because we just couldn't breathe the compound that made up their air?"

"Well, yes, that is true, but the compound will cause your lungs to completely collapse in on themselves. And it will be the same for your muscles and such if inside the space suit some of the outside air gets in… and then for the gravity, well, let's just say it's approximately one-hundred times heavier than the stuff on earth,"

"But, it's a plane, isn't it? How does it have such strong gravity when it isn't even spherical? On top of that, isn't the surface area of the plane much smaller than that of the earth? That just doesn't make sense at all?"

"You can't use earthly logic on foreign dimensions like this… it just won't work at all, so I'm warning you now, always be prepared for the worst… Now! Everybody who is working on my sister's suit! Add a pair of holes in the back for her to sprout her wings! I want that done by the end of today! Got it?!"

"GOT IT!" The rest of the scientists shouted before Nuala brought me to a separate and more private lab where I assumed she did all of her work.

"Now… it should be on here," Nuala muttered, turning on her computer and immediately sifting through a few files until opening one with a single video file. "Yes! Yes!"

As my sister shouted with excitement, we began to watch the static video, but from here we were able to get a good look at the plane, though we still had no evidence of titans besides the shadow that came from above.

"It isn't enough evidence for me to use… The people who I would like to work with always need solid evidence and proof. Without it they'll just shoot our idea down… so for now, let's take a step back and make sure everything goes right again,"

"Yes… So we're fixing the problem of the space suit, but another big problem is the camera. We can't take a separate one in there because it just won't warp back from the plane with you… so maybe we can develop something that will help with that? Or we could just try and improve the signal between our camera and our computer base,"

Nuala looked to me for advice, and I quickly put my hands up like I was surrendering since she had full control over this project, and I was just here inspecting it.

"Do what you want,"

"At least give me some advice. You said you want to go back in as soon as possible, so would improving the camera be the easiest thing to do?"

"How about you solve the problem of things other than the space suit and camera attached to the suit not teleporting with me? That's something that will not only be useful now but also much further into the future when we attempt to normalize this technology,"

"I understand what you're trying to say, but that will take much more time. I will need at least another few years before I can even hope to reach a glimpse of that. It's just a coincidence that anything touching your body gets teleported with you… we didn't calculate that at all. That function was already there, surprisingly,"

"Hmmm… I see. Okay… okay… well, then we'll just have to do with the shaky camera footage. We'll head off tomorrow morning… do you have sleeping quarters where I can rest easy? I don't want to go back to those shitty hospital beds,"

"Of course. Follow me right away,"
