"I would've done that, but we're completely out of alcohol. The dark elves knew where our storage was and used that to try and inferno the entire storage house. Thankfully, it only burned through our alcohol and nothing else… but that means we're completely out," I muttered, but my maid of ice had a good suggestion.
"Use [Aurora Borealis] but control it. Try not to reveal a presence within the skill… This is a good time to improve and hone your skills before battle, so test it out. Under the pressure of potentially revealing your entire army, you'll definitely improve,"
Cora, who rode next to me on her own separate unicorn, looked at my maid as if she was insane, but I kind of wanted to test it out.
I've never made such a move like that on such a large scale before, so pushing me past my limits was a good form of training.
"If it ever does grow out of control, then I'll be there to stop it. Your skill is quite weak, in fact," My maid of ice said with a straight face.
"*sigh*... Whatever," I muttered, ignoring the blatant teasing my maid tried to do, but if I didn't give into it, it wouldn't count as teasing.
And just as I had thought, the maid clicked her tongue with disappointment as I slowly turned towards my army once again and activated [Aurora Borealis].
At first, expanding it so much while trying to suppress it really took a lot out of me, but my maid was kind and decided to help me guide it throughout the army, relaxing them as if they were all having a mystical massage.
"Th-thank you," I stuttered as the exhaustion almost knocked me to my knees, and when I took a glance at my status, I noticed my mana which had depleted halfway.
"Thank god for mana potions," I muttered before chugging one and letting the blue liquid sit in my stomach for a bit.
And soon, the mana flowed through my body upon digestion, and my exhaustion was soon gone as the maid of ice gave me a beautiful massage.
"Wow… You have tons of knots. You've been calming down your comrades, but you haven't taken a chance to rest at all," My maid said before using her elbow to dig into my now defined back muscles.
The rest of the strong soldiers surrounding me looked up to meet eye to eye, their pupils shifting with bits of guilt spread amongst them.
They were complaining so much that they never thought of me, but it's not like I ever cared.
I wasn't going to complain about them not attending to my own complaints. That's just how it works as the commander.
"My bad," Cora muttered before patting my back before I hopped onto my unicorn once again.
We could rest here for a bit more as another wave of scouts was coming, so I soon ordered the soldiers to release their armor and cover us with a blanket of shadows.
I topped it with pure white snow that matched our surroundings, and from here, everything was completely hidden.
I felt the presence of these scouts soon disappear, their disappointment immeasurable as they kept coming out here to fulfill their general's wishes, but to no avail, found absolutely nothing of use.
As soon as they were completely gone… or mostly, we got rid of the blanket hiding us, and I turned towards a singular tree with one assassin standing at the top.
He was surprised I managed to detect him, and he most likely betrayed orders to try and figure this out.
His intuition was good, but curiosity killed the cat… and of course, I was the beast who tore the little kitty to shreds.
As I wiped the blood off my face and hands with a loose rag, I burned his body into something unrecognizable, but just to be sure, I scattered the ashes with a blast of icy wind.
Nodding at my beautiful work, I gave myself a pat on the back before hopping back onto my unicorn once again and ordering my army to start moving again.
I doubt anybody had ever used a strategy like this before, but staying close to the enemy was definitely advantageous.
"Have you gotten any word from the scouts?" Cora asked, trying to start up a conversation as we boringly trudged through the piles of snow.
"Yeah. Just as I had expected, the adventurers refused to leave, and apparently, Tiana is going to be able to help us out later… if she manages to find the key item to her family's inheritance. I mean, she managed to become the head, so I guess it's rightfully hers… but apparently, she still needs to tame it or show the artifact that she is worthy… meaning we still can't rely on that piece of information yet,"
"I see… well, my sweetie is currently inside the monster army, acting as a scout, and if she is ever injured, I will run away with her, even if it means abandoning my pride," Cora muttered, and I was surprised at her change of heart.
She always seemed like a battle-hardened idiot, but I guess after finding love, she decided to abandon this bloody lifestyle.
I don't blame her… but leaving in the midst of a war is beyond shameless.
"Are you serious?"
"One hundred percent serious. But that's if it is a life-threatening injury. She can handle a little flesh wound… so just be wary of that and of me," Cora said, and I sighed before looking up at the sky.
The branches and clouds served as a cape for our plan as shadows were practically everywhere.
"If you had to choose between your girlfriend and me… and we were both severely injured… who would you choose,"
The silence was deafening, and even the small breeze was unable to wake us up from our almost insignificant trance.
"Definitely you," She replied with a wide smile.
I couldn't suppress my smile either as we both stared up at the sky.
