The Forsaken's Revenge

Chapter 284: How could this happen?

"It was because he received so much help that he eventually became the future leader. He seemed to have changed his name because he was afraid of someone," Zhao Feng explained, detailing the information he had gathered.

Things were growing more complicated, and quite different from what they had initially imagined.

"Have you found the source of the money?" Chen Zheng asked calmly.

Zhao Feng nodded slowly, then quickly shook his head. "The trail started out strong. All the funds were transferred from the capital, but the other party was far too cautious."

"The money was laundered through dozens of companies. The trail is completely clean, so I'm afraid we can't trace it any further."

Chen Zheng let out a long breath.

From this, it was clear that Ma Wenyuan wasn't the mastermind. An extremely powerful force was backing him. What this was all about, and what the truth behind it all was, were things that likely only Ma Wenyuan himself knew.

"War God, should we move against Ronghua Group now?" Zhao Feng asked, a cold glint in his eyes.

Chen Zheng waved his hand nonchalantly. "Don't act yet. I've already waited so many years; a few more days won't make a difference."

"I want to see for myself what other forces are behind this man. If I find the true culprit, I don't care what his status is—I will see to it that he dies without a burial ground!"

「Nighttime.」

「Jiangnan Taikang Hospital.」

In a top-level intensive care unit.

"Miss Sun, your grandfather's vital signs have begun to decline rapidly. His situation is critical. We've done everything we can," the chief physician said to Sun Doudou, wiping sweat from his brow. "But based on his current condition, he probably won't live more than three days."

"What did you say?" Sun Doudou's eyes flew open, her body trembling. "Three days?"

"Didn't you tell me before that he was fine? How could things suddenly turn like this? You owe me a reasonable explanation today!" Sun Doudou glared, looking as if she wanted to devour him whole.

"Miss Sun, please, stay calm. We've utilized the best procedures and treatment plans available. The problem is definitely not on our end," the chief physician said confidently, quickly shifting the blame. "I recall you mentioning that someone sold your family some fake medicine. His current condition must be related to those pills!"

The Sun family was a major up-and-coming power. If Sun Zhengtang died here, his own career would be finished.

This was human nature. When faced with a problem, the first instinct is to shirk responsibility. Besides, he had suspected from the very beginning that the person selling the medicine was trouble.

Hearing this, Sun Doudou found his words entirely plausible, and her teeth began to grind in fury.

That damned Chen… If anything happens to my grandfather, I will find a way to kill you! Sun Doudou thought, her expression turning ice-cold.

「Jingsheng Group.」

A very important meeting was being held today, and all the senior management were already seated in the conference room.

"President Feng, everyone is here. Shall we begin?" a man in his thirties asked respectfully as he approached Feng Yueyue.

The man's name was Zhang Hua, a key figure in the company known for his diligence. As the current vice president, his position was second only to Feng Jingsheng and his daughter. Feng Jingsheng was very fond of him, even treating him like a godson.

"Wait a minute," Feng Yueyue said, glancing at her watch. "There's one more very important shareholder who hasn't arrived yet."

"A very important shareholder?" Zhang Hua was taken aback. He scanned the room, confirming everyone was present. "President Feng, are you sure you haven't misremembered? Everyone is already here."

Just as Feng Yueyue was about to reply, the conference room door swung open and a tall figure walked in.

"My apologies, I'm late..." Chen Zheng said, offering an apologetic smile to the room.

The executives in the conference room were stunned. Several of them couldn't help but frown, never imagining that the "important shareholder" President Feng mentioned was this person.

"President Feng, today's meeting is crucial. We need to select a stock with high potential for our next project. Why have you brought an outsider here?" Zhang Hua asked, shooting a look of clear dissatisfaction at Chen Zheng.

He and several other senior executives present had met Chen Zheng before at the Feng family residence. They were already extremely uncomfortable when Feng Jingsheng had transferred ten percent of the company's shares to this man.

And now, he was being allowed to participate in high-level corporate decisions? What was Feng Yueyue thinking?

The expressions of the other senior members also soured. They all agreed that Feng Yueyue was giving this man far too much consideration. In their eyes, being a good fighter was meaningless; he was just a brute. Business relied on brains.

"Actually, I've done some research on the stock market myself, so I'd like to listen in," Chen Zheng suddenly interjected, finding a seat and sitting down.

Everyone stared blankly for a moment before shaking their heads in disbelief.

The nerve of this guy is unbelievable! To say he's also researched the stock market without batting an eye… He's just a fighter. How could he possibly understand any of this?

"Some people are just unbelievable. They have no self-awareness whatsoever," Zhang Hua muttered, looking at Chen Zheng with extreme coldness and disgust.

"Let it go," Feng Yueyue said, steering the conversation back on track. "Now that everyone is here, let's officially begin."

She had only invited Chen Zheng to the meeting as a basic courtesy. After all, he was a shareholder, so it was only right to keep him in the loop.

The meeting officially started. A projector hummed to life, and the atmosphere in the room instantly grew serious. An assistant came over with a stack of documents, placing a copy in front of each person.

Feng Yueyue picked up a laser pointer and began her presentation. "Vice President Zhang, several directors, and I have already discussed this beforehand. Of the companies that recently went public, there are two with significant potential that have caught our eye."

She pointed the laser at the projector screen. "Xixi and Tiansheng Electronics."

"Both of these stocks have been very active recently, with huge gains since their initial offerings. However, Xixi has been extremely volatile these past two days. Today, it opened high but has been trending low all day, which makes it seem very unstable."
