Mysterious Assistant of the Washed-Up Queen

Chapter 233: What Are You Thinking About?

Daily Life

"Over here, over here!"

Chu Tian had just come out from the side door when he saw Xu Ruyan and several of her roommates standing not far away, looking in this direction.

"Come on over, let's go inside first."

After greeting them, Chu Tian turned back to explain to the security guards on both sides and then led Xu Ruyan and her roommates inside.

"Where's my sister?"

"She's changing clothes and removing her makeup. I'll take you to the green room to wait for a bit, and we'll all have dinner together later in the evening."

Xu Ruyan didn't really mind, but her roommates were far from calm.

After living for more than twenty years, this was their first time backstage at a concert. Their eyes could hardly take it all in. They peered around as if on an exploration, wishing they could spare a glance at even the corners.

"Here we are. You guys go in and take a break. There are some refreshments and drinks inside. I'll come back later to take you to the car."

Having arranged things for Xu Ruyan and the others, Chu Tian hurried out again.

While others were busy, he wasn't idle either. The concert might be over, but there was still a heap of work to be done afterward.

The entire backstage area was temporarily set up and wasn't very big. Aside from the main functional areas, there were only two or three green rooms.

He turned and entered another green room. As soon as he walked in, he saw several people looking at him.

"Hello, everyone. I'm here to look for Sister Hua."

Everyone sitting in this green room was a guest who had come for the event; some were friends, others were business collaborators.

Except for those who were genuinely busy, most of the others had stayed with the intention of chatting and networking afterward.

After all, no one would come here for no reason—it was all about giving face, and more importantly, about giving favors.

And since they wanted to give, they had to make sure the gesture was remembered, or else why bother?

As an agent, Sister Hua couldn't just leave the guests hanging at this point, so it was up to her to do the hosting.

"Ah, it's Chu Tian, right? Hello, hello."

When he first came in to greet everyone, they were a bit taken aback. According to current customs, staff members would usually address everyone as 'teacher' or something similar when speaking.

But Chu Tian came in confidently with a hearty "Hello, everyone," which took everyone by surprise.

But as soon as they saw who it was, they understood instantly—wasn't this the male lead from the stage just now?

Although they couldn't go to the audience seats to watch, there were screens broadcasting the event backstage.

So they were already familiar with Chu Tian's appearance; they just didn't expect to meet him in person so soon.

"Hello, hello, everyone has worked hard. We are going to leave soon; everything is ready on that end. Please, all of you, take a moment to rest. I need to talk to Sister Hua about something."

"No problem, don't mind us—we're all grown-ups, we don't need you looking after us," said the person who had been the first to talk to him earlier.

The speaker was the same person who had first spoken to him. Chu Tian remembered his name should be Xu Zirong, a Veteran King of Singers who was still active on stage and held a relatively high status.

And this person seemed to be from Haiyin Records, the same company as Li Xiang, who had previously flip-flopped over releasing an album.

As for why the other party had come, probably only Sister Hua would know that. Chu Tian didn't dwell on it.

But from the looks of it now, it seemed Xu Zirong had a pretty good attitude.

There were a total of four guests who came this time. One left midway due to some matter, leaving three behind.

Xu Zirong was one, Hua Ruyue was another, and the third was a singer Xu Qingqiu had met before, more an acquaintance than a friend.

If he remembered correctly, his name seemed to be Cao Lei. He specialized in love songs and was keen on playing music, but he had rather ordinary looks. He was the type whose songs were well-known but he himself was not.

He had come partly because Xu Qingqiu indeed needed guests, and partly because he hoped to mooch off the concert's popularity.

After all, he was getting on in years. It was becoming increasingly hard for him to advance his career at his age of over forty, and lately, he had been living off his past successes.

Even though his songs were popular while he himself wasn't, it was still hard to live off past successes, and the business offers he received were mostly low-end.

He had come with the intention of making his presence felt, hoping to boost his own value.

Regardless, being here meant friendship, only it seemed Cao Lei wasn't too keen on Chu Tian.

Ever since Chu Tian arrived, Cao Lei had been rather cold, especially compared to the other two.

"Chu Tian, right? I've always heard Qingqiu mention a friend, how this and that, never leaving out that friend in any conversation." Hua Ruyue said.

"I was wondering what kind of friend it could be, thinking maybe it's a romance, but turns out it's actually true. Congratulations to you both, you've finally made it official."

"Thank you, Sister Hua, you've worked hard today," Chu Tian replied.

"Alright, let's not stand on ceremony. Go ahead with what you need to do, don't mind us," Hua Ruyue said.

"Alright then, you guys rest first. We will clean up as quickly as possible."

After a quick greeting, Chu Tian led Sister Hua out.

"What's wrong? Is there a problem?" As soon as they were out of the green room, Sister Hua asked.

"No, it's just that Qingqiu's sister and her classmate have come. I wanted to ask if they could tag along with us later, if there would be enough space there."

"Hey, I thought it was something else. Don't worry, everything is arranged. Remember the new singers we hired at the company also came today, right? They can take one car later; there'll be enough space there."

"Great. Qingqiu is quite tired today. Please help look after her later, and don't let things drag on too late. Try to wrap up early so she can go back and rest."

This was Chu Tian's main reason for seeking her out.

Qingqiu was so fatigued, but tonight's celebration was also an appreciation dinner, and she couldn't just not attend.

He wished she could leave early, but his position made that difficult, so he had to rely on Li Chunhua to look out for her.

"Understood, I'll keep an eye on the time. It should end in an hour or two."

"Okay, then it's settled. Thanks for your hard work, Sister Hua."

Chu Tian said this and was about to leave when Li Chunhua grabbed him back.

"Wait a moment!"

"What's wrong?"

"What's wrong? You tell me what's wrong! Are you stupid or something? Where's the ring I gave you?"

"Right here."

Once he heard this, Chu Tian knew why. He pulled out the ring from his pocket and handed it to Li Chunhua, his face breaking into a smile.

As the saying goes, "You can't smack a smiling face." Either way, smiling was the right way to go.

"Smile, smile, smile, what are you smiling about? What were you thinking? I prepared everything for you, and you didn't even seize the opportunity?!"

"Ah, Sister Hua, I was thinking that it's more sincere if I buy it myself, right? I want to see what kind of ring Qingqiu likes later and personally buy one for her," Chu Tian explained helplessly. "Also, the occasion wasn't suitable at the time. Proposing in front of so many people feels like emotional blackmail, not good."

"What's not good about it? That moment was so romantic! Do you not know what women like? Emotional blackmail is for when you haven't established a relationship yet. Who are you blackmailing now that you two are like this?"

Li Chunhua glared at Chu Tian, looking utterly frustrated with his lack of understanding.

"Besides, what sincerity are you talking about? Qingqiu had seen this ring several times before! I even took the plunge and used my own salary to buy it for you, and you didn't even use it?"

Chu Tian was dumbfounded. He had no idea that the ring had already caught Qingqiu's attention several times—if only he had known, he would have presented it right away.

"Sister Hua, why didn't you tell me earlier..."

"When was there time to tell you? And you, who knows what you were thinking."

Li Chunhua was practically speechless with exasperation—the stage was set, yet he himself walked off it.
